Cabbage question

I just purchased the cabbage hut yesterday and today I collected from it and then went to the tent to use my extra cabbage...except t only showed I had three cabbages like usual....is there a max of 3 cabbage? Do I have to be sure to collect AFTER using a cabbage in the tent each day?
