Inspired by some of the quite brilliant storylines that forum favourite pixiegamer has conjured up in the past, I'm going to bring you a tall tale over the course of the next few weeks which will hopefully inspire you as much as pixiegamer's efforts inspired me. I'm proud to announce the premiere of The Chemist, the Cat and the Time Machine, a Restaurant Story production which I've been plotting for a good while.

Our story begins at my restaurant, The Garlic Tree, but not in its usual surroundings. For the first time, I've opened the doors to the basement of my diner, which turns out to be a more interesting place than you'd ever believe...

http://i65.tinypic.com/slohm8.jpg

Down here is a hive of activity as the Mad Chemist runs a laboratory alongside his Lab Assistant. Among the experimental areas in operation are a maze aimed at advancing artificial intelligence using a Robo Dog, and a biology lab where plants are put under Detective Phoebe's microscope.

https://i66.tinypic.com/eq9u1j.jpg

https://i65.tinypic.com/wa3oea.jpg

And when all the deep thinking gets too much, the Chemist heads to his Steampunk space for a break.

https://i65.tinypic.com/20k4xkw.jpg

He likes to take a lie down on the Steampunk Couch and casually spin the Steampunk Globe. Although it's not all relaxing here as there's a not so soothing view of the abandoned corner.

https://i67.tinypic.com/2pyuwrl.jpg

This is like a scene out of Halloween, not just because the Zombie Waiter's eyes are popping out of his head, but also because of the creepy Spider Stone flooring and messy Lobster Mayhem. Luckily the disorganisation of this zone is not replicated in the kitchen, where Biscuits and Gravy is the order of the day.

https://i67.tinypic.com/2hhg2th.jpg

I promised a story, and this is where it begins. My neighbours will be well aware that the Biscuits and Gravy is often all that is on the menu at The Garlic Tree, and this is why (as well as its excellent profit per plate!) The Chemist may be a very clever man, but like many fine scientists he does not possess a stash of creativity. And that takes us to the centrepiece in this laboratory, which is the Time Machine.

https://i63.tinypic.com/qn4kt0.jpg

The Chemist has been developing this behemoth of a contraption alongside his Lab Assistant for a long time and now they are clutching the final ingredient for this great machine - the fuel! They're ready to toast their work and go on a journey through time and space in which they hope to find new and exciting dishes they can bring back to The Garlic Tree!

It turns out that the fuel the Chemist has spent so long concocting is much more powerful than even he could ever have envisaged. Upon splashing a generous portion into the Time Machine's inner bowels, our pioneers experienced an intense rattle and a thundering roar before the world began to spin around them.

Once silence descended and the adventurers adjusted to their new surroundings, the Cat gathered with some alarm that they had found their way to the Dawn of Time itself.

http://i66.tinypic.com/fcrb50.jpg

Never had the voyagers anticipated they'd travel quite so far back. But despite their shock and trepidation, they weren't about to miss out on the chance of a thousand lifetimes. Peering around, the Chemist was astounded to see that the early universe was not the empty vacuum it is typically painted to be. Instead a busy crossroads met his eye.

http://i67.tinypic.com/sgpq37.jpg

Enclosed by the Railroad Crossings, the time travellers have stumbled upon a congested corner of the galaxy where unmanned Coin-Operated Rockets are chugging along. Some of the rockets are still in motion as indicated by the trails of Dotted Tiles at the rear, while others are at a standstill. It seems that queues were prevalent even when the universe was still in its embryonic stage!

There is some serenity in this sector of space, and it can be found on the other side of the Chemist and the Cat's location.

http://i67.tinypic.com/51el2u.jpg

The Moon Landing and its bright exterior has docked on a rocky terrain that resembles a City Sidewalk, and the craft looks imperious on the small surface of the Moon. The single astronaut has not only planted her flag but also her comfy seat. She's the Deck Reader and having made such an effort to get to the Moon is now enjoying a cool glass of cola and a good read. Her puppy dog has also made the trip and is clearly exhausted from the excursion having curled up for a snooze.

But remember: the Chemist and the Cat have a reason for visiting this strange place, and that is to find a recipe to take home with them.

http://i68.tinypic.com/2r7qzkm.jpg

The Rocket Fuel Punch is the staple diet of those rockets (along with the coins to operate them!) and so is a fine choice for the crew to take back to the present day. It sits proudly alongside the Biscuits and Gravy which the Cat demanded be brought with them from home. Not only will the punch fuel the customers at The Garlic Tree but also provide a vital back-up should the worst happen and the Time Machine runs out of puff.

But with the journey only just getting under way, that won't be happening any time soon!

After spending some time taking in the wonders of the early solar system, the Mad Chemist and the Lab Assistant have again boarded the Time Machine and ignited the burners. After the eerie quiet of outer space it was the sounds of the Chemist and Cat's second destination which hit them first ahead of the sights. There were regular and random chirps and growls, the slop of disturbed water and the low hum that could mean only one thing: the time travellers had reached the jungle!

http://i68.tinypic.com/2qmf8mg.jpg

It appears that this second stop is also measuring millions of years into the past, with humans still trying to find their way in a world dominated by the Animal Kingdom. It was with some trepidation that our explorers glanced around at the many vivid colours taking advantage of the freedom from human interference. The first feature they locked eyes upon was a beautiful scene.

http://i68.tinypic.com/amt72p.jpg

With swirling Tranquil Waters and a family of happy Sea Turtle Tables this is the most peaceful of lakes. But there is some drama taking place on the Jungle Tour, where the girl in the green dress has her mouth wide open in fear - she's understandably distressed that her Lake Dog has been left behind on the Spring Meadow banks. Will her pooch be left abandoned in this dangerous place?

The reason this is a dangerous area is because of what lies within the jungle.

http://i66.tinypic.com/2s9c3v7.jpg

There is a convenient Stepping Stone path can be found on the outskirts, but it's only so useful as it leads straight to the lion posing atop the Zoo Gifts. The self-proclaimed king of the jungle, the lion is taking his rightful place above the various other animals that roam the lands, and has decided to take residence in a den flanked by Athens Pillars and Lion Statues (how vain!)

There's no shortage of other living things running amok in the jungle, but it's the creatures located to the north which have the Chemist very excitable.

http://i66.tinypic.com/2nq5cva.jpg

The Dino Daycare is the natural habitat of the dinosaurs, who are currently having a good play. Their lurid colours are as good an indicator as any that we are very far away from home, but the smiles all round suggest that this particular group aren't the fierce force the dinosaurs are often portrayed to be. They're just enjoying themselves in a rich surrounding which includes a Parrot Tree, Lemur Log and Christmas Reindeer, as well as a Toucan Tree perched atop a Fallen Tree.

This is clearly a wonderful place to be, and so it doesn't come as much of a surprise that humans have made an effort to settle deep in the flora.

http://i68.tinypic.com/2h3cvub.jpg

The Action Dining puts the residents right at the heart of the action. With its raised foundations the risk of creepy crawlies paying a visit is minimised, while a straw roof will keep out the worst of the tropical storms. Although keeping out the Hanging Monkey may be tougher - he looks like he may be looking for an opportunity to prepare a fried banana on that glowing fire!

After a lengthy venture into the foliage, the Cat emerged with a new recipe worth bringing back to The Garlic Tree.

http://i66.tinypic.com/2q0oocn.jpg

The Dinosaur Nuggets becomes the third dish positioned around the Time Machine. and will serve as a reminder to the adventurers that they walked with dinosaurs. And after some forensic analysis the Chemist is pretty certain that no dinosaur was harmed in the making of the nuggets - it's just the shape of them folks!

You'll also notice the Train Conductor from the galactic crossroads has sneaked on board. He obviously grew tired of directing interstellar traffic, so has decided to join our voyagers instead. It looks like they're not only going to be bringing new foods back to the present day but also new friends!

Having spent some time building up a sweat in the jungle, the Mad Chemist and Lab Assistant are looking for somewhere to cool down, and hence have adjusted the dials and set the Time Machine in motion again. With a snap and crackle they rip their way through space and time before the bitter cold hits.

As far away from the closeness of the animal kingdom as could be, our voyagers have landed amid the event which wiped out the dinosaurs and reshaped the world forever. This is the Ice Age!

http://i63.tinypic.com/xomlg8.jpg

Just as the early universe was less barren than history portrays, the Ice Age was a period in which progress was actually made. Humans have shown their ingenuity to adapt to the changing environment and make the most of the huge volumes of snow. This is no better demonstrated than at the lake which we saw at our previous stop, except now it is rock solid.

http://i63.tinypic.com/5kk0sk.jpg

It could be viewed as a dangerous area which is not suitable for any activities, let alone fun. And yet there are numerous Ice Skating Girls sliding around the frozen surface of the lake, all circling the Snowy Fountain which stands proudly in the centre. And being the Ice Age the ice is definitely thick enough to cope with the blades of so many skates!

In fact, the greatest risk for those skaters is bumping into the Lake Dog. I mentioned at our last stop that the pooch appeared to have been abandoned lakeside, and it seems that he clambered aboard the Time Machine when no-one was looking! Having joined the crew for the journey the Lake Dog has returned to familiar surroundings and is clutching a fish gathered from a hole in the ice.

There are other dogs to be spotted at this location too, with the Dogsled Team in their element.

http://i64.tinypic.com/23m0p4w.jpg

A dogsled is the best way to get around in this difficult climate, as the guy in the Snow Suit is finding out. He may have all the right gear to stay warm, but the cold is merciless and he is struggling with the falling temperatures. In contrast the polar bears inhabiting the Igloo are thriving in the tough conditions, with the scarves being worn by two of the bears purely a fashion statement, and indicators that they are very comfortable with the unforgiving weather.

But the igloo is not the only notable erection in this scene, and it is the other which the Chemist and Cat are most interested in.

http://i68.tinypic.com/2nkj9nd.jpg

In the north there is a party breaking out, with lots of luminaries congregated on the roof of a snowy building. There's a Frosty Feast to gorge upon, all prepared by the Snowman Chef. And as if that's not enough there's also a Winter Spread in the corner which the Parisian Waitress is overseeing. There's no shortage of choice at this shindig! And that's before we consider a warm treat down on the patio below - the Winter Couples have already gathered there and find the cold less biting thanks to the French Lantern lamp posts and fairy lights on the White Christmas Trees which ensure it stays light when it gets dark.

Having mingled with the guests at the rooftop party, the Chemist has returned to the familiarity of the Time Machine with a new recipe.

http://i64.tinypic.com/2jg9zeb.jpg

The Chemist was desperate for something to restore some body heat, and a large bowl of Minestrone Soup will undoubtedly do that. It joins the Biscuits and Gravy, Rocket Fuel Punch and Dinosaur Nuggets on the counters, and leaves the crew with six more counters to occupy.

So there's still much travelling to be done, and I suspect the Cat will be demanding that the next destination is somewhere a little warmer.

The sun wasn't all that prominent when the Mad Chemist and the Lab Assistant were stopped at the Ice Age, so they had high hopes of some warmth and sunshine at their next destination. Following another glug of fuel, the Time Machine ensured that their wishes were fulfilled. Upon arrival, the crew found themselves at the centre of a large expanse of sand and under a blazing heat. A brief glance around soon confirmed that the explorers had touched down in Ancient Egypt!

http://i67.tinypic.com/e6rpck.jpg

After the freezing temperatures of the Ice Age, this was a real relief for the travellers. Removing their shoes and feeling the soft sand between their toes was quite the sensation, and for a moment the fact that they were undertaking an epic journey through all of time was forgotten. This was only added to when the Chemist locked his eyes on the Hut Bar.

http://i66.tinypic.com/2zy9yrt.jpg

Having grabbed a cool drink from the bar, he was able to settle down on a Cruise Deck Chair and chill. From his position the Chemist had a view of the river, where three children could be seen Down At The Dock, and it appeared that they were fishing for some supper.

It was only after spending a while watching the kids struggle with their rods that it dawned on the Chemist - he was looking out at the River Nile! Turning his head upstream he spotted a small island on the river which was a hive of activity.

http://i65.tinypic.com/67hxec.jpg

On the island were a group of Fire Dancers, all living dangerously with their flaming sticks. They were putting on a heck of a performance, with thanks to a pair of Island Drummers and a not-so-native Mexican Dancer, who was twirling to the beat.

This island was a really impressive sight, and the Chemist wasted no time in shouting for his Cat to join him to enjoy the banging of the drum and flashing of the flames. But his puss was a step ahead of him and was already being dropped off the Jungle Tour further along the Nile.

http://i65.tinypic.com/4jh53.jpg

Having been deposited on the Black Sands, the Cat had spotted a Headless Horseman who appeared to be standing guard over a long narrow corridor. It was only after moving past this sinister feature that the Cat realised what she was entering - a labyrinth of booby traps. Well, this was Ancient Egypt after all, and the Pharaohs had done all they could to protect their assets. Every so often there was a Happy Halloween tile on the floor which the Cat hypothesised activated a not so happy dart.

The Cat trod carefully across the creaking Spider Stone flooring to reach the other end where a Vampire Waiter stood with a tray of ancient drinks as old as the pyramids themselves. With cats sacred in Ancient Egypt, the Cat was given permission to join the feast in the Treasure Room.

After she'd satisfied her appetite and the Chemist had taken his eyes off the Mexican Dancer, they returned to the Time Machine.

http://i64.tinypic.com/6yjn9s.jpg

The Lake Fisher can be seen in the background next to his Recreation Rack, and the newest dish added to the pioneers' collection is thanks to him. The fisher has been reeling in all the king fish the Nile has to offer, and has cooked up some of them for the crew to take home. No wonder the kids at the dock were having no luck - there were no fish left for them to catch!

So Roasted King Fish from the Valley of the Kings is the latest addition on the Chemist and Cat's banquet. And there seems to have been another addition to their travelling party too - the Lake Dog tagged along at the Animal Kingdom stop, but after braving the cold of the Ice Age seems to have bonded with the bloke in the Snow Suit. That or the thickly clothed guy was desperate to get away from the harsh winter!

Next: Stop #5 - Ancient Asia (http://forums.storm8.com/showthread.php?90204-TGT-Presents-The-Chemist-the-Cat-and-the-Time-Machine&p=1286208&viewfull=1#post1286208)

With the Mad Chemist and Lab Assistant nicely tanned from their visit to Ancient Egypt, they're feeling revitalised and ready to cause another rupture in the space-time continuum. With a rumble and a loud crack (some of which was provided by the newest crew member, the Island Drummer) the Time Machine was on its way.

From one ancient land to another, our crew arrived at the peacefulness and serenity of Ancient Asia!

http://i63.tinypic.com/axljs9.jpg

Looking around carefully and thoughtfully, the Chemist quickly deduced that this quiet place almost covered an entire continent - with Japan, China and South Korea all represented it appeared that in centuries past Asia was a much smaller land.

Japan was best exemplified in the most peaceful area of all, with a Bamboo flooring in place for a spot of meditation.

http://i67.tinypic.com/106m07o.jpg

Each participant is given a Meditation Seat to sit on while they listen and watch as Hanbok Phoebe (from South Korea!) takes them on a journey of the mind. With Beach Bonfires glowing around a border of Zen Sand, there's no doubt that anyone getting involved will have their heads cleared out and will feel a new lease of life. That's certainly what the Lounge Lizard is hoping for as he attempts to finally give up the bottle!

After having his soul replenished, the Chemist moved out into the gardens, where there was further opportunity to be at one with himself and the world.

http://i64.tinypic.com/bgxtzr.jpg

Strolling under the Garden Archways laced with ivy, he crossed paths with the Playful Parasol while also taking in the formidable sight of the Jade Dragon. This really was a beautiful place to be, with refined greenery all around, whether it be the Chinese Lantern Plants, Round Hedges or Dandelion Fields.

This paradise of nature was encapsulated by the Panda Pen. Here the Chemist could see a family of three pandas relaxing and chomping among the bamboo. It was a marvellous sight in a marvellous surrounding. And it's worth noting that the Cat was reliably informed that the pandas were not 'caged' in this pen - they had constructed it themselves as a little hangout. No need to get mankind involved!

But the work of humans could be seen at the end of the path.

http://i64.tinypic.com/25q7r0z.jpg

The Korean Garden is a huge and homely structure, built over a long period and intended to stand the test of time. It offers some wonderful views over the balconies at dawn and dusk. And it's at dusk you'll get the best effect of the Rockets. The Chinese invented fireworks, and it appears that the travellers have timed their appearance just right to play the role of excitable observers to the very first rockets.

After a successful fireworks display our party were invited to... well... er... party!

http://i63.tinypic.com/33xepkw.jpg

To celebrate the lighting up of the skies with lots of vibrant colours the locals are putting on something of a show. On a plethora of Good Fortune Floor Tiles there is much to cheer as the Dragon Dance is performed. Two sets of robed performers are bringing the mythological creature to life, with its yellow scales striking against a blood red skin and pale underbelly.

After getting their fill of Salmon Makki from Action Chef Lee's ancestor (the present day Lee was left behind at The Garlic Tree!) the troop return to the Time Machine with their stomachs packed.

http://i68.tinypic.com/z1yc1.jpg

And waiting there is a gift from the folks of Ancient Asia. A large bowl of Egg Drop Soup has been deposited on one of the remaining counters, thus ensuring that the Chemist and the Cat have another delicacy they can bring back to The Garlic Tree. The menu is going to be getting a major overhaul when they return, but their appetite is still keen for more - roll on the next stop!

The Mad Chemist, Lab Assistant and their ever expanding crew are again on the move. After spending a week in the quiet of Ancient Asia the Chemist splashed a rather generous helping of fuel into the Time Machine and got everyone strapped in. For a moment there was nothing but darkness, and then the most busy and colourful scene yet. The explorers had landed in the middle of the Middle Ages!

http://i68.tinypic.com/28w10cn.jpg

Retail, entertainment, sport and dining was all represented in this chaotic place, and the adventurers couldn't wait to get out and about. Having ventured into the Time Machine as a means to get away from the sober solitude of Ancient Asia, the Lounge Lizard has apparently found paradise in the market.

http://i63.tinypic.com/2web70j.jpg

Here there is a large Cider Bar where he is able to get all the refills he wants free of charge (when have you ever seen a lizard charged for booze!) And a refreshing drink is something everyone will need after spending an afternoon touring the market. There's a Yard Sale, a Rose Seller and another of Action Chef Lee's predecessors in the form of Cashier Lee, all keen to do business.

There's also a rival drink maker in the market, with Phoebe's Stand offering freshly squeezed lemonade. And it really is fresh with the lemons picked to order from the Lemon Trees. With a sweet glass of juice in hand you can relax on the Tree Bench which serves as the centre of this fine market.

The hustle and bustle continues further along the Stepping Stone path with the ever enticing fair.

http://s32.postimg.org/lc8i7ag3p/Fair.jpg

Here there is entertainment for all the youngsters, whether it be Bobbing for Apples or chancing your hand at the Game Booth. For those wishing for something a little more eloquent there's a Psychic Reader in town, and she's got all the predictions in that crystal ball (that or the Chemist has had a word in her ear, after all he know a little about the future!)

But understandably it's the Cat Show which the Cat is most excited about. The kittens are impressive, but let's have some perspective - the Cat has played a significant role in developing a Time Machine which is able to travel into centuries past! So in the end it's the Cat teaching the show's participants, although I suspect the perils of gravitational time dilation have gone straight over their heads!

For more mature residents enjoyment can be found with the jousting tournament.

http://s32.postimg.org/hj18qplad/Jousting.jpg

The Dala Horse and Headless Horseman are in a duel. Galloping around the Caution Tape Dividers, the aim is to knock the opponent off their mount. But with the Dala Horse missing its rider, the Train Conductor has seen fit to get down there and blow his whistle to halt the battle.

And there's a ceremony in progress anyway so really everyone should be pausing to congratulate the victors in the Winner's Circle. My Fair Gran-Gran (in her finest outfit) has presented the trophy, and is waiting for the photographer to finish off snapping the winning horse so that she can have a shoot of her own.

At the other end of the area the King and Queen are very much enjoying the festivities.

http://s32.postimg.org/gs231oxs5/Royals.jpg

The royals are seated on their thrones and have the best vantage point for the jousting. They've brought plenty of support with them for this day out, including a pair of well trained swordsman and their pet Ring Barker. He's even got dressed for the royal outing!

And in front of the royals are the Queen's Guard, accompanied by the Island Drummer. He's made a beeline over there to entertain the royals and jam with the guard. Given the smiles it seems the monarchy are thoroughly enjoying his efforts.

After a feast from the Carving Station and Pie Table, our expedition have to return to the familiarity of the Time Machine, although they certainly don't do so empty-handed.

http://s32.postimg.org/e456u9wqt/Time_Machine.jpg

A huge mound of Farmers Market Salsa has been bought and added to one of the remaining counters. It will undoubtedly make a great dip for the Dinosaur Nuggets! There are now just three counters left vacant, indicating that the Chemist and Cat's mission is moving ever closer to completion.

The Mad Chemist and Lab Assistant's epic journey through space and time continues as they find themselves in the midst of a famous period from America's past. Having gulped down some travel sickness pills and braced for a rocky ride, the crew have touched down in a land they've only ever seen in the movies - it's the Wild West!

http://s32.postimg.org/i94qrlut1/Overview.jpg

And wild it most certainly is! There are steam engines billowing as they charge across the desert, tricky cowboys playing a tense game of poker, and outsiders shooting pool aside the bar. It's a quirky place, and the travellers were keen to get out and about. As students of engineering it will come as no surprise that the Chemist and Cat naturally gravitated toward the train tracks.

http://s32.postimg.org/qhat6yv5h/Train.jpg

For the first time throughout the entire trip an exact date can put on their stop. History states that the Golden Stake which represents the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad was driven in on 10th May 1869. And here the travellers are witnessing the ceremonies, with Mr Moustache dropping the giant mallet that brought an end to six years of tiring work.

But it appears there's already a train on the tracks! Someone couldn't wait to try out the shiny new railway, and so the Locomotive is puffing out steam as it chugs its way along the tracks. There are some fine views to be had for the first passengers, with the Haunted House standing eerily in the middle of a desert devoid of life except for a few sturdy Cactuses and Hay Bales.

And of course no railway is complete without some stations.

http://s32.postimg.org/prywx7wol/Train_Station.jpg

Built with a City Sidewalk floor, it looks like the Train Conductor is in his element. Meanwhile the Cat is apparently making a new friend at the station. The Perro must be the pet of the guy opening the railway since he's also got an outstanding moustache on the go. As long as he's willing to leave his home behind, I'd wager that the Perro will be joining the ranks of the time travellers.

Speaking of wagers, there's no shortage of money being exchanged in the saloon, where the Saloon Card Tables are in full swing.

http://s32.postimg.org/n5ro50md1/Saloon.jpg

There are two tables in action, with a trio of players engrossed in games of poker. In between hands the players take a stroll up to the Cider Bar where a pretty girl with rosy cheeks is making fresh cider. She's got all the apples she'll need stacked, and has earned quite the reputation for producing a seriously tasty brew. But if cider's not your favoured poison, there's still scope for a thirst-quenching afternoon. The Saloon Bars are open for business.

http://s32.postimg.org/dr8ezdiyd/Saloon_Entertainment.jpg

You may wonder why there are two such bars, but the sight of the Lounge Lizard soon explains that. Upon seeing that the lizard was coming the staff at the saloon no doubt brought in a second bar, knowing that the lizard has the capacity to drink one dry all on his own. Their foresight was clearly well founded, with the Lounge Lizard in full flow.

If the lizard ever sobers up he might join the Pool Shark at the Pool Table. It looks like sharky is the boss of the baize, with all the money he's won being spent on a snazzy outfit which includes a regal top hat. So on second thoughts the lizard might be best to save his cash and enjoy the Swing Dance Floor which is the home of the best saloon entertainment. Even the Cowboy Greeter is doffing his hat with approval, although there is a distinct possibility that he is simply wiping his brow of the sweat incurred from working among the Cowboy Stoves!

And those naked flames have played a key role in preparing the dish the explorers are returning to The Garlic Tree with.

http://s32.postimg.org/9q86ry3w5/Time_Machine.jpg

The Cowboy Quesadillas look delicious and are sure to go down a treat back in the present day. The banquet which will be up for grabs when the adventurers return is shaping up nicely, with eight counters now occupied. With just two spaces left, we're approaching the climax of this enduring tale, but with the Time Machine low on fuel we may have to travel forward a little less far next week.

After two months of voyaging through the bowels of history, the Mad Chemist, Lab Assistant and their growing team are into the final stretch of their adventure. Our favourite explorers have spent only a few drops of fuel to advance forward to a momentous occasion - it's the first staging of the modern Olympics!

http://s32.postimg.org/79edejsp1/Overview.jpg

The world's biggest sporting extravaganza has evolved greatly from its first official event back in 1896, but at the same time some of the sports which feature prominently in today's Games were present even at the end of the 19th century. Among them was track and field, and that's where the Train Conductor has headed straight for.

http://s32.postimg.org/iwlwvrfut/Athletics.jpg

At the centre of a rather diminutive first Olympic Stadium is the cauldron, formed with four Tropical Torches. It stands tall and proud in the centre of the field and burns for the duration of the Games. Around this enduring symbol the steeplechase is about to get under way. Including two hurdles over Caution Tape Dividers and a water jump over Fancy Wood Dividers into a pit of Water, the pressure is on for the Life Coach who is getting her game face ready at the start line. And it is here that the Train Conductor can be found, not limbering up for the race, but instead providing the whistle that will get it under way!

But the steeplechase isn't the only race taking place during the voyagers' visit - the rowing regatta is in progress too, and the river is busy with athletes bursting a gut to get the gold medal.

http://s32.postimg.org/cbw5spix1/Rowing.jpg

The rowers get themselves comfortable Down At The Dock before heading out into the deeper water to face off. There seem to be three entrants in the ongoing race, with two Gondola Dates and a Little Love Boat doing battle on the river. In each case there seems to have been a surprising amount of attention paid to outerwear, with all three pairings being rather smartly dressed for such a rough and ready sport. But that's the way they did it in the 1890s!

Next to the rowing we have the Ping Pong Table, which at this time was not much of a mainstream game. That's why there's a tiger and panda have made the final - they're better than any human table tennis player at this juncture in the sport's history, and so are going head-to-head for the right to be crowned Olympic champion.

The action has paused over on the basketball court, where the Halftime Show is the centre of attention.

http://s32.postimg.org/74pbcunet/Basketball.jpg

There are eight cheerleaders performing acrobatics to entertain the crowds, including the mascot. They're bang in-between the Basketball Hoop Lamps, and the Referee Waitress isn't too happy about this - she wants to get the game restarted! However the masses are happy to enjoy the show from Courtside Seats under dangling Bunting, and the Scoreboard suggests there's time yet for the cheerleaders to do their thing!

The cheerleaders wouldn't look out of place in the far corner of this Olympic scene either, with an enthralling parade in progress.

http://s32.postimg.org/6gu8z4sud/Parade.jpg

Rows and rows of Jolly Jockeys watch on as a Parade Car is led by a Drummer Drumming and Mexican Dancer. Attached to the car is a large float upon which six regimented Trumpet Players are puffing their cheeks out hard. And one of our own is getting involved in the parade, with the Island Drummer embracing the carnival atmosphere. He fancies that he can outdo the trumpeters, and you wouldn't bet against him! He's taken a position at the very front of the float and is banging his drum like there's no tomorrow. If drumming were an Olympic sport he'd be a shoe-in for gold.

Sadly it's not and before long he'll have to return to the Time Machine as the adventurers move on to their next destination.

http://s32.postimg.org/6iddk19fp/Time_Machine.jpg

But before they depart, there's a souvenir to bring home, with the Greek Salad becoming recipe number nine on the surrounding counters. The first modern Olympics were held in Greece, so it was only right that the dish brought back to the present day was something relating to the Games' birthplace. And it's a healthy option too which is always appreciated by athletes.

We've now got just one more stop until the Chemist, Cat and co have to set their sights on a return to 2016. There's just over 100 years of history lies between this stop and the present, so it will be interesting to see just where our team land up.

The journey is approaching its climax, with the squad of eager explorers now headed for home. There's time for one last stop, with the Time Machine's radar set for the 60s. The crew took a deep breath as the laws of physics were once more punctured and the world again slowed down, before they were engulfed by the most colourful of settings. With so many free souls and smiling faces, it was clear that the gang had arrived in 1967 - the Summer of Love!

http://s33.postimg.org/i8xjmrdmn/Overview.jpg]

Such a peaceful yet busy scene! Undoubtedly there was a carefree attitude around here, with everyone enjoying a frolic outside or a bite to eat in either of the two diners. And given the appetite the long trip had invoked in the Cat, her urge was to bypass the diners' waiting staff and instead head straight into the kitchen.

http://s33.postimg.org/r5qr35mbj/Kitchen.jpg

A hive of activity this kitchen most certainly is, with the Chef's Station at the hub. The three head chefs are busy preparing tasty meals, and have the most sophisticated of units at their disposal for doing so. But they're certainly not alone - there's a huge band of brothers and sisters, be it Busboys, Hot Dog Vendors or Bagels Gals. They each fulfil a role and collectively keep the kitchen on top of all the orders.

Together the group make quite the team, and you can be sure of great service at this establishment. Plus given their efficient efforts, the Cat is unlikely to find any forgotten cuttings or spills to chew on. Instead she's just going to have to order food like everyone else at the red diner.

http://s33.postimg.org/a5q8dg2tb/Red_Diner.jpg

It's Manager Phoebe who the Cat needs to speak to about getting a tasty plateful, and once she's ordered she'll be able to perch herself on a Red Stool and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. The Mini Guitars represent the burgeoning music industry led by rock-'n'-roll, while the Yellow Motorcycle and Teal Vintage Motorcycles symbolise the freedom of movement that embodied the decade.

Those motorbikes also make for quality decorations, which is why they've been given pride of place in the middle of the Black and White and Red and White chequered floor. But there's more inclusive entertainment can be found in the other eatery, the blue diner.

http://s33.postimg.org/e6pejiiin/Blue_Dinner.jpg

Here the Crooner is showing off his dulcet tones with his classic microphone. Although given how comfy the Lounge Chairs are, I wouldn't be surprised if his audience would rather have a brief nap. And they may need it after an exciting game at the Bowling Alley. This diner has three lanes set up, and visitors are invited to have a bowl with their meal.

The pressure is on for those who do choose to hit the lanes since the Jock is watching on closely. He may look like a grumpy teen in his bowling jacket, but I've heard he's actually a scout looking for potential candidates for his professional team. It's highly doubtful the Cat will be getting a call though as she's more interested in raiding the Popcorn Cart.

After her stomach is filled, the Cat heads out into the open air, where everyone is at one with nature.

http://s33.postimg.org/7yr1mn3un/Outdoor_Area.jpg

There's so much to see and do in this area, with the hippie movement dominating. Whether people are decorating the Wishing Tree, having some Summer Fun with the tyre swing or enjoying a Pool Party, the constant is their happiness. It's a carefree time, and everyone is delighted to make the most of the fine weather.

And given that this is the Summer of Love we shouldn't be surprised that there is a Summer Romance brewing on the corner. This really encapsulates the freedom of the period with a couple finding love among the flowers.

But that's enough romance for one day - it's back to the Time Machine, where the troop have cultivated another recipe, with the staff in the kitchen delighted to send the crew off with some Strawberry Malt in hand.

http://s33.postimg.org/nc2tahs8v/Time_Machine.jpg

Now that all the counters are occupied, it appears that it's time for the posse to bid an emotional farewell to their travels. The Chemist calibrates the Time Machine for one last blast through the past, and the Cat tips the remainder of the Rocket Fuel Punch into the tank. Everyone clutches the nearest counter as the familiar rumble kicks in. But something's wrong. The rumble is deeper than before, and even the sturdy Wooden Pillars are vibrating madly in the descending darkness. Has the Chemist gone too far with his disturbing of the tranquillity of time?

The darkness fades, and an immense and blinding light takes over. The crew had been heading for home after their traipse through time, but the Mad Chemist clearly tipped in too much Rocket Fuel Punch. Having expected to land comfortably in the present day, our adventurers have overshot their destination by at least a hundred years.

This location appears to have a particularly bright sun and there's not a cloud in the sky. Just as the Cat makes to step away from the Time Machine she realises why - the team are above the clouds. They're about to dine at the Restaurant in the Clouds!

http://s33.postimg.org/z1zthgyan/Overview.jpg

This is a dining experience like no other! In the future the effects of overpopulation have resulted in mankind taking to the skies. Many establishments are based in the clouds, including this fine restaurant. But how do prospective customers get there? Well, they take Phoebe's Bike of course!

http://s33.postimg.org/5dx11wxwf/Entrance.jpg

That iconic moment in E.T. was not the work of exceptional filmmakers but rather a glimpse into the future of transportation. Everyone goes around on flying bikes, and that's the preferred method for reaching this eatery. Once you get in the Holographic Greeter will live up to her name. She'll also use the Touch Screen Menu to register your order, making the whole process nice and easy.

While the Classic Chef and Fancy Waiter provide pristine service, you can settle down on a Glass Chair at an Alpine Table and sip some Chilled Drink. The White Carnation Vases make for a nice decoration, and help further the relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. Or should that be stratosphere?!

And if you've got a premium ticket there's an opportunity to saunter across to the VIP cloud.

http://s33.postimg.org/yxojkzx5r/Transfer_System.jpg

To get there you'll need to take the transporter. This massive construction shuttles between the two ports, both populated by the Love Boat Crews. Engine Counters power this vehicle, and it is steered by Captain Phoebe using the Navigator Host Table and Touch Screen Table.

Once over the abyss, you can enjoy a bite to eat at the Romantic Lounge. Perfect for the audacious couple, there's a long table surrounded by rose petals, glowing tealights and red curtains. There's plenty of privacy up here, and spectacular views to boot.

Meanwhile to the side we find the Lab Assistant. And who is that she's conversing with? It's the Robo Dog, who we first met right back at the beginning when peering into the basement of The Garlic Tree (http://forums.storm8.com/showthread.php?90204-TGT-Presents-The-Chemist-the-Cat-and-the-Time-Machine&p=1268179&viewfull=1#post1268179)! It's a glorious reunion after so long apart, but it also raises a very tough question: how did the Robo Dog get here? He's clearly not been tagging along throughout the trip, which leaves us with a real mystery as to how a robotic pooch could manoeuvre through decades of time...

We should continue to ponder this, but a beautiful rainbow is grabbing the attention.

http://s33.postimg.org/g8ac9h8kf/Rainbow.jpg

A rainbow is a dazzling sight at any time, but when you're clear of the clouds it's especially impressive. Yet while most of us are satisfied with looking at this quirk of nature from a distance, the Leprechaun Waiter has other ideas. He's clutching his bag of gold in hope that he may have the chance to add to it. The glare of the sun may make it look like a Lemon Barrel, but there's definitely a pot of gold to be had here. The problem is that the Leprechaun is on the wrong side!

But at least he's close to the kitchen, where the Robot Chef and Valentine Robot are in full flow. They both operate on solar power, and there's an abundance of that up here, so they never run out of energy. Working within a labyrinth of Blue Ovens, these two are perusing over the preparation of a sky restaurant speciality - Cloud Cakes! They're tastier than they sound, and are sourced locally.

Now, let's pull our eyes away from the rainbow, and instead worry over a far more sinister sight.

http://s33.postimg.org/6o4yb74bj/Stormy_Clouds.jpg

There's a strange storm brewing. Of course not all clouds are white and fluffy, but this looks to be more serious than a rain shower. There's something not quite right here, and it's difficult to fathom exactly what. Is this the beginnings of a major electric storm? Is it a gaping black hole opened up by the Chemist after one too many violations of the space-time continuum? Is it the way the people of the 22nd century celebrate Halloween?!

Whatever's going on here, I don't like it, and fear for our gang. Given that the Robo Dog was nearby to this ominous threat, maybe he can offer some information? The Cat will certainly ask her lab mate. In the mean time, the rest of the group are staying at the Time Machine.

http://s33.postimg.org/5vaq1jrtr/Time_Machine.jpg

I can understand their reluctance to disembark from the comfort of the Wooden Pillars. For one thing, they'd have to make a jump to reach the clouds, but their apprehension is mostly caused by that looming dark threat. And those are not the only concerns - after spending the remainder of the fuel to get here, the Chemist and friends are now stuck in this place. Will they ever get home?

The Mad Chemist and his Lab Assistant have been touring time for more than two months. Having spent even longer constructing a Time Machine in the basement of The Garlic Tree restaurant, they've gone on to experience so many different climates and cultures, from the dinosaurs and the Ice Age through to the Wild West and the first modern Olympics.

Their original aim was to search for new and exciting recipes they could bring back home to expand The Garlic Tree's menu. They've certainly achieved that, but they've also made lots of friends along the way.

However after the Chemist overjudged the return home and sent the team careering into the future, a happy ending is looking unlikely. The group are out of fuel, and worse still appear to have instigated a strange storm at the Restaurant in the Clouds. But before we write the obituaries the Lab Assistant is bounding back to the troubled posse at the Time Machine. She's been having a chat with the Robo Dog, who has somehow found himself at this cloudy location despite originally being left behind in the basement.

And the Cat is looking very happy - she raises her head and exclaims that the strange storm was indeed a product of the excessive ruptures in the space-time continuum made by the crew. But it's good news, because this storm is a portal which the Robo Dog was sucked through. That's how he stumbled upon the explorers!

With new hope, the team disembark from the Time Machine and take turns at leaping into the darkness, praying that the portal is a two-way system. Eventually only the Chemist remains - he strains his neck for one last look at the extraordinary result of all his years of experiments before turning his back on the Time Machine and plunging into the unknown...

Landing on his feet next to his faithful Cat, the Chemist found himself more amazed than he was at any of the sights glimpsed throughout the trip. He was back home, at The Garlic Tree, but it had all changed!

http://s33.postimg.org/sapg2ib2n/Overview.jpg

While the Mad Chemist and Lab Assistant have been venturing through time, Action Chef Lee and My Fair Gran-Gran have been hard at work giving the restaurant a complete refurbishment. The overall format of a foyer section followed by a main area for eating is maintained, but it's all been shifted around.

Lee and Gran-Gran stand over the Gray Host Table in the foyer.

http://s33.postimg.org/n34cy1uhb/Foyer.jpg

There's a fancy New Orleans Door has been installed, and it's part of an entrance area which has had a serious facelift. A Venetian floor is in place, while French Cafe wallpaper gives an opulent feel. But it's the Slate Fireplace which really steals the scene. Surrounding by comfy sofas and armchairs, this allows those patiently waiting for a table to relax and enjoy a Date Night Drink in front of the roaring fire.

Stepping into the main area, we discover not only a new Rustic Italian floor and a set of Flamenco Tables, but also a huge party!

http://s33.postimg.org/cb6siyf0v/Main_section.jpg

It turns out that those dark patches didn't just appear at the Chemist and Cat's last stop but at every moment in history they'd visited. Those who they met along the way were only too pleased to meet up with the crew again, and have brought some of their era with them for the occasion.

In the main section the Crooner from the retro diner is offering his crisp vocals to accompany the Grand Piano and Elegant Harp. And the Mexican Dancer is twirling till the morning to the tune of the String Quartet as the Perro watches on with glee.

Elsewhere there's a real drop off in temperature in the far left corner, where a mini Ice Age is in progress.

http://s33.postimg.org/eib16vkb3/Ice_Age_Dawn_of_Time_Wild_West.jpg

Shooting through the time portal doesn't seem to have put off the Ice Skating Girls, who continue to circle the Snowy Fountain, watched on by the guy in the Snow Suit. and polar bears of the Igloo.

Next door is the Deck Reader, and she's not moved since we last saw her at the birth of the universe. She's still chilling on the Moon with a cola, with no intention of moving her Moon Landing rocket any time soon.

And adjacent are all the folks from the Wild West saloon including the eternally cool Cowboy Greeter. The Saloon Card Table never stops, and nor does the Lounge Lizard's boozing! The Pool Shark is short of a pool table, but I'm sure he'll join the lizard at the Saloon Bar.

Along the other wall are more separate zones.

http://s33.postimg.org/ygvhmzudr/Summer_of_Love_Kitchen.jpg

It was hard work, but Lee and Gran-Gran managed to get a Bowling Alley set up just for the Jock. Some customers are auditioning for a position on his team, and in between games can unwind on the Pinball Machine with a snack from the Popcorn Cart.

Next to this is the kitchen, a mainstay of The Garlic Tree. The original staff and equipment have been maintained, with the likes of the Ticket Station and Culinary Artist continuing to ensure the smooth operation of the diner. But some familiar faces from the last few weeks are also in attendance, with the Snowman Chef, Manager Phoebe and the 50's Chef among those to answer the call and take up the opportunity to cook in the most famous restaurant in town.

Swinging back across, we see that although the team didn't themselves bring any Cloud Cakes home from the Restaurant in the Clouds, the Holographic Greeter made sure to take some with her for this shindig.

The Romantic Lounge has been temporarily relocated, and Lee and Gran-Gran have used some of the Chemist and Cat's brains to simulate the cloudy feeling underfoot.

Neighbouring this is a taste of Asia, where the guys performing the Dragon Dance couldn't resist bringing their own entertainment. With a Chinese Archway and Chinese Lantern Plants in place, even Hanbok Phoebe is letting her hair down and getting her boogie on!

That's six of the ten stops we've seen represented, but what of the remaining four? Well, an outdoor area is a proud tradition of The Garlic Tree, so maybe we'll find more there?

We most certainly will! The Olympic rowers have rowed all the way here, and unless the Train Conductor and Referee Waitress are a little more proactive with their whistles the Little Love Boat may crash straight into some Fancy Wood Dividers!

On the shore the Fire Dancers who dazzled in Ancient Egypt are flirting with the flames once more. The Island Drummer is delighted to be reunited with his girls, and likewise the Lake Fisher is chuffed to see the Lake Dog again.

On to firmer ground and the Dino Daycare is still home to four young dinosaurs. They don't seem to have grown at all since we last saw them - just as well! And Arbor Day Phoebe who was left behind down in the lab basement at the outset is planting flowers all around under the watchful gaze of the Playful Parasol.

At the head of this outdoor section are the heads of state. Everyone involved in the day-to-day running of The Garlic Tree is delighted to welcome the King and Queen. They've even brought the Ring Barker with them, but there are no security concerns. That's because Captain Phoebe is in charge and will be sure to search the Rose Seller before she approaches the royals.

With the tour complete, all that remains is for the Parisian Waitress to bring out the Birthday Cake. It just so happens to be the Mad Chemist's birthday today, so everyone can tuck in. All the food from the travels is still up for grabs, so do enjoy the Feast of Time!

THE END

---

Thanks to everyone who has followed this story over the last few weeks and months and offered such kind words of support. It was really fun from start to finish, from the planning process right through to the execution and writing up of the tale itself.

If you've enjoyed my excessively long posts, it might be worth pointing out that there is somewhere else you can find my endless utterings. Forum rules prevent me from including any outside links, but if you just Google my restaurant's name (The Garlic Tree) I'm sure you'll find me!

For now, goodbye!
