I'm going to guess we'll get a CNY update based on the BS/RS recycling pattern that's been happening this month.

But a Super Valentine's Sale like last year's (http://forums.storm8.com/showthread.php?77857-Super-Valentine-s-Sale) would be nice! Especially with the old boxes being brought back for purchase :) I want to spend some gems!

If S8 doesn't feel like adding a new appliance, they can really just bring back the Jazz Oven as an LTO. It's got New Orleans-style desserts already, and gives us a chance to use parts other than Oven Elements for a change ;)

My question/concern is how to unlock ovens that are grayed out? Due to I have a lot of parts that I can't use because of the locked ovens or ovens that came out when I wasn't playing bakery story. If possible, I really would appreciate your help.

one of the few i'm missing! that would be awesome! i'd even pay 5 gems per oven. and thanks for the pics, good to know what's on there. i guess i could bake some king cupcakes from natasha's cupcake machine in lieu of these.

you can't, unfortunately. many players have requested/suggested it, but at the moment it's only when S8 feels like unlocking them can you get access.

On one hand, I was planning to decorate for Lunar New Year anyway, so I'm kinda glad we're getting some items for it. Also, Restaurant Story 2 got a Lunar New Year sale, so, it might be a stretch, but I hope Bakery Story might get one too.

On the other hand, I'm really disappointed that this month essentially saw Bakery Story and Restaurant Story cycling themes each week :( It makes the team(s) behind the games seem uncreative. I really hope it doesn't happen in future months.

Also, if the recipes in the preview are what I think they are (Almond Cookies on the far left, Lotus Root on the far right... can't really determine the middle counter unfortunately), then I'll be all but convinced that Bakery and Restaurant Story's creative teams are getting desperate. BS got very similar recipes back in 2012 with the Sugar Coater and Dehydrator (pics below). Surely, bringing them back would be easier than programming a new appliance and adding six new art assets to the game per recipe? Accounting for a new part (which will surely be added, considering the pattern for the past few months now), and the artwork for the appliance itself, that's twenty total new art assets for the appliance alone. Good gravy.

While I'm glad the teasers have returned, I'm not happy about the recycling of themes. Greek for restaurant though is not bad as I do know people wanted it.

if we're going to have recycled themes, why don't they just get released together in the same week so that we won't be kept guessing when the theme will be reused for the other game.

happy to hear about RS2's sale...hope BS & RS get some sales soon. I know this is a sour subject for most due to getting a less than desirable Black Friday sale and no Christmas sale...but since other games are getting them, maybe there's hope our games will too?

Chinese don't eat moon cake during new year. And I've never heard of any traditional Chinese desert made of banana either. TangYuan would be the most approprate CNY desert. And seriously, it's not difficult to draw a bunch of white balls in a bowl.

I remember last time the Chinese update (mid autumn one) they gave us BaoZi and CharSiu Pastry. I facepalmed so hard... BaoZi is a main course (just like pasta for Italian), and CharSiu is appetizer. Both have meat fillings and BaoZi isn't sweet at all! No Chinese in their right mind will eat those as desert.

Also S8's sense of Chinese decoration seems to be dragon, dragon, and more dragon.

I noticed this issue with the Greek Baker display as well.

The update is too expensive for me, especially following the extensive Moon Festival update of just a few weeks ago. Got a ton of Asian themed pieces and don't feel an urgency for more. Going to sit this one out. Saving my gems in case we get a sale. *fingers crossed*

No matter they are sweet or savory, Baozi and Charsiu pastry are sort of Chinese dimsum, so it is quite natural to have them in a bakery.

They have their specific name too (DouBao and NaiHuangBao). Not sure about Hongkong people, but if you only say "Baozi" to anyone in mainland China, everyone immediately refer it to the big ones stuffed with pork. ChaSiu can be a main dish, but I don't think ChaSiu pastry is. And I've never seen any Chinese bakery sell ChaSiu. It's like trying to buy honey garlic chicken wing in wester bakery ;) The red bean DouBao, maybe? But for sure not the pork stuffed Baozi :eek: But then I've never visited a Hongkong bakery, so maybe they do sell those there :lol:

Oh I see, I thought boazi is an overall name for them, cos they all have their own specific name according to the stuffings.
Charsiu is not sold in a bakery, but Charsiu pastry does.
and I tell you what, some bakery really sell baozi, it is weird imo, I found it quite interesting when Boazi appeared in Bakery Story too, maybe a bakery is not limited to sell baked food, don't they also have donuts from deep fryer? so why not baozi from a steamer?;)

I agree, not cool to have a recycled, out of season dish on a new, expensive oven. We already had the dragon statue recently, how about some firecrackers, lion dance, hongbao, good luck scrolls. I thought someone said S8 had programmers from China so they should have more ideas. The dragon tables are unattractive for 6 Gems!

Chinese don't eat moon cake during new year. And I've never heard of any traditional Chinese desert made of banana either. TangYuan would be the most approprate CNY desert. And seriously, it's not difficult to draw a bunch of white balls in a bowl.

I swear over my 21 years of life in China, I've never heard of Deep-fried souffl banana and Banana roll (and the banana roll picture looks like red bean roll to me). And I've lived in multiple cities and ate sinful amount of dessert/dimsum :p We do have Caramelized stuff, but traditional ones are Caramelized sweet potato and Caramelized apple. (Actually I don't think banana would taste good caramelized, because it gets too soft when in heat.) None of those are traditional Chinese dessert. Someone with too many banana at hand invented them :rolleyes:

Back on topic... Bought the 4x4 display and the neon dragon and that's it. The 3x3 dragon looks ok, but I don't have any place to put it. I've redecorated my bakery to Oriental design (Chinese/Japanese) in prep for the new year! I'm so ready ;) Of course I bought the new ovens too, but I'm not going to start cooking them. People will think I'm lunatic if they see me cooking mooncake for new year :lol:

everyone has this problem. you always have to pay for expanding, it's just that you can't expand with coins until you also have a requisite number of neighbors, and the tabs are too small to include all that information at once. so until you have that many neighbors, the decor tab will show you how many neighbors you need. once you have reached that number, then it will show you the coin cost.

expanding with gems has no neighbor requirements, which is why it always shows the cost.

i believe, but can't check because i have enough neighbors to expand, that if you click on the expansion arrows around your bakery, it will show you both the coin cost & how many neighbors you need, as well as the gem cost option. if i'm remembering right, you might want to check using that option instead.

Players will have until 2/15/16 at 12:00 PM PST to purchase these items. Unfortunately, the timer does not display hours, so it may have been 18 days and 1 hour left when you noticed it stating 19 days.

Players should have 18 days to be able to purchase their valentine's items though.

Both the souffl? ball and caramelized banana are originated in Beijing and the banana rolls from Hong Kong/ Macau. It depends on how you define "traditional" but the souffl? balls are named after 高力士 (Gao Lishi) so if you've done Chinese history you should know how long that would date back to :P. The banana rolls are a must-buy if you're visiting Macau. All of these are available in Hong Kong (do visit when you've time :))

I'm glad they brought back the Lucky Fountain - am definitely getting that!
