I have the Giving Treent, but for some reason I can't use her for breeding. Is this a game error?

No, not an error. None of the treent animals, treent, giving treent and trick or treent can be used for breeding. You can use them for battles, tournaments etc but not for breeding.

As Silverrain stated there are some animals that cannot be used as parents.
