I think they are just offering a reward now to get the tournament in or goal book. I don't think any players care much about a 750 Apple reward to hatch the animal before the tournament ends. I miss the gem reward but rarely cashed it in, even when I could, because of space limitations and the time they take up in the Breeding Den. However, it does point to a trend of limiting the ability to earn Gems for task.

Round 7: Lionheart takes the first loss of the tournament. Captain K9 comes in to bail him out.
Round 9: Tried out the Eerie Owl since both Halloween and Fire are strong to Nature. A loss on the first try. That is 3 of the last 4 18-rounders where I had trouble with a base element common.
Round 10: This will be the last of the special elements I will use for this tournament. Service is Strong to both Dark and Fire but I still lost 2 times.
Round 11: My Rubble Rooster is having a tough timer with Zapra, losing 3 times so far. Fire is Strong to Dark and Neutral to Electric. Earth is Strong to Electric and Neutral to Dark, so Earth/Fire should be a good choice. Just bad luck, I guess.
Round 13: The Shockatoo may not have been the best choice here since Electric is Strong to Water but Weak to Earth. Switched to my Crystal Unicorn but lost again before winning on the second try.
Round 14: This is a tough opponent for me. I am going with the Zapra for now. Dark Strong and Electric Neutral since I don't have much luck with the Treent. Worked out OK , won on second try.
Round 16: Crystal Unicorn is a perfect match for the Timbear but lost the first 2 tries before winning on the third. Shows the importance of the level of the opponent.
Round 17: Another two losses for the Terradactyl but in wins on the third try. Ube more to go.

I too have lost 3 time to round 2. All level 15, the Gold Lion & Magmacore with Fire and Anubis. So much for winning North Polar Bear....We can only hope to zip thru the final rounds...yeah, right.

Lost round 1 twice with L15 Pearl Peryton and L15 Crystal Unicorn. Won third time with Pearl Peryton. Instead of moving on to R2, just had to play R1 again and won with Pearl Peryton. Hoping this isn't a sign of how this tournament's going to go for me…

Still waiting on my third try but my results are the same 2 losses round 1 with the same animals. I hope the rest of the tournament isn't this bad.

To everyone who has had problems with rollbacks with their rounds I just wanted to share a trick that I always do: If I win a round, I click on the 'menu' icon (lower-left portion of the game screen), then 'social' icon (happy faces), then 'neighbors', and wait for it to load. This forces the app to connect to the server and register your win. This should prevent rollbacks and having to do the same round over again. It takes an extra moment of your time, but it's worth it.

Yes I always use that neighbour loading trick after every battle! Even after every time I harvest and plant new crops. I did it this time however and still had a roll back. So strange

These days the updates come at 2am for me. I just don't have the energy to stay up so late at night and as a result lose out on one or two rounds that I could put in before going to sleep.

Note: even after getting a Critical hit it is taking me 3 attacks to win an opponent!!! But so far so good
Round 11. The Zapra refuses to go down !! If this goes on I will not be able to win this tournament.

Chippychan, you may want to change (dark/nature) recommendations to include earth. In Feast Beast tournament after eleven fails against Twilight Troll, won with Manticore (fire) 1x critical...thought it was luck. This tournament won against Owl Bear with Manticore (fire) 2x strong 1x critical.

Also, you need to add (gem/earth) to (electric/water). Won with Cyclops (earth) many times against (electric/water).

RD 12 Is giving me problems. Tried my epic flyerfox epic JingleShellsand epic pyropony. Should I go for water? Continuing losses with Epic Frostfang and Hydro Yak. There's nothing else I have available to try that might win.

Unbelievable honestly I can't believe it I went in figuring what the heck..lol I finally won this round with my epic Plantlers earth,nature, nature.

RD 13 was easy for me as I guessed epic Pandafolia took out iciclaw
RD 14 in tomorrow I think I'll try my new epic ToyElephant out
First try lost ToyElephant by a very tiny margin I hate when it happens that way you can barely see any red left.
My lvl 12 Skygar was able to finally win this round.
4 RDS left just maybe I finish.

Yeah I really like the bear theme too. It's nice that TL did this.
This would have been a good one for a "Bear vs. Ember" edition too but with a flash tournament I don't want to take the risk of missing out on that pretty bear as prize.
As for me, I had a very easy start with only two losses vs. 10 or so wins but then the trouble started: it took Ember 5 attempts to get past the Owl Bear, ouch. The next tough opponent was the notorious Citrine. I finally just beat that minutes ago with my normal Treent. The Trick-or-Treent couldn't get past is in 6 attempts so I switched to the normal Treent. That one took 2 attempts to get past it. With this one behind me, I hope/expect the worst is behind me now so I should have a good chance on finishing the last rounds without speeding...

I was having a pretty good tournament, started out rough w with two losses on round 1, that was hard to take. Then I only had 1 other loss to Zapra round 11 but now I'm on my 10th loss to Hibearnate round 15. Arggg this is frustrating. Guess I'm paying for getting by with only 3 losses to this point.

My Terradactyl took down the North Polarbear with two Critical Hits on the second try to finish the tournament. Overall record was a respectable 18-15. See Post #3 for details. I didn't lose any more that 3 times in any round although after round 8 I only one 2 rounds on the first try. I am not sure when I will have time to hatch him, so he has joined my ever growing number of animals in storage.

I'm almost there (I hope..): the Citrine and Timbear had me pinned down for quite some time but I'm on the Polarbear now. First attempt was done with the Deadwing and resulted in a loss. I hope to secure it soon as bedtime comes around in some 3-4 hours.
Flash tournaments are always close calls but I really want to win this one, I'm sure it'll look beautiful in the new habitat that I'm about to buy...

About half an hour ago or so my Deadwing finally drove the bear home (he won on the second attempt). :P
As always with a flash tournament, it went almost down to the wire (bedtime coming up real soon here in Europe), but at least I managed to secure it without spending gems and with some 2-3 hours to spare before I go to sleep. I guess in that respect it's a good thing that I sleep very little: I got to play until late last night and got up early today. Had that not been the case, I'd probably still be battling at this time.
Overall record: 19 losses vs. 18 wins. The Owl Bear, Citrine Peregrin and Timbear were the most troublesome rounds; the other rounds went pretty normal, and several of those went very smoothly even.

Oh I am so happy! I totally wanted this guy and now he gets to be in my forest. Lost to him once with Lullabison then won him with the Lullabison. I never speed, but I was prepared to use the ultimate attack twice to get it. I did use the ultimate attack only once -on the gummy bear as l kept losing to him and the end was so close. Results are in post # 13 on page 1.

Hideous day!! I finally beat Hibearnate on the 8th try with Solar Simian. Started battling every half hour after that and just had the 2nd loss on round 17. I'm sleepy....I don't want to stay up and finish this....but I love polar bears....

Ok I spent 4 gems to speed and beat 17 with Lightning Leopard. Sped again and used ultimate on round 18 as the Lullabison was losing. Yay! Polar bear and sleep!!

Record was 18-17 with 1 ultimate and 16 gems spent on speeding.

Finally finished but cost me all my gems. Only way I could win is speeding time with all the losses. Seems these tournaments have gotten a lot harder than they use to be😡 & now we don't even get gems!!

I made it with 20 minutes to spare and only used one speedup! very rare for me to finish a flash tournament! Thanks to the posters who used Glacial Griffin for the last round. I only had trouble with Hibearnate.

Congratulations to all who got their North Polarbear. I was sadly disappointed and after doing so well for the first 14 rounds I got halted by the Hibearnate and no matter what I tried could not get past him...very sad to come so far and so close and not be able to accomplish my goal...oh well maybe I will have better luck next time!!
A big thanks to everyone for all the information you supplied...it sure does help to see what others have done to defeat their opponents.

For me it was the Zapra and timbear that gave me so much grief! Total nightmare. I always struggle time wise on these tournaments but with lots of speeding I got my polar bear

I just had to share this hilarious pic.
