And another tournament ends with no gold spent. Only rough patch was Steelflare took 6 tries and triceratops took 6 as well but other than that most went down first attempt, often with one bash or one magic.

I am not at all sure I want this Avalanche Dragon as I really have a hard time being attracted to the wing action of this design. However, let's see how we go.

As with the last tournament, I will update this post all the way through. I'm doing a bit of experimenting this tournament, so some of the results may be, shall we say, "interesting".

Oh, just a personal thing, I don't like bashing babies with Epics - so unless I have to, I don't.

5 Snowman 2 < Kung-Fu 6 bM Fireflower is usually my "go to" girl for red/green opponents, let her rest this time.
6 Fuzzy 3 < Graffiti 5 B (KO) Easy colour chart choice this one. Knight was also an option. Comic too big, would have hurt the little chap. :)
7 Tsunami 4 < Night Imp 3 B (KO) Thought of Starlight (same combo, older), but wanted to see how Night Imp went.
8 Cornucopia 5 < Cupcake 7 bM Really struggled for a colour combo here as had to avoid red, black, purple and blue, so played around with options. Dueler 3 and Unicorn 6 both lost. Cupcake's bash was ineffective, but her pink magic did the trick.
9 Island 6 < Air 8 bM I really struggle with green/blue opponents, other than using Champs, as yellow is the only colour strong.
10 Jester 6 < Prime Chroma 3 bM Colour chart says pink & white, so pink & white it was. With a bit of Prime and Ultra thrown in, I guess.
11 8 Bit 6 < Rose 7 B (KO)
12 Waterfall 8 < Parakeet 11 bMb Air 10 lost. Another green/blue. Given Rd 9, I sent in a more senior Air, but clearly it was not his day. Time to bring out more senior soldiers, I think.
13 Earthquake 8 < Ghost Armor 10 bM The first listed "strong against" colours were all cancelled out by the "weak against" of the other colours in Earthquake's make-up. Luckily I happened to have a black/white standing around doing nothing and he accomplished the task.
14 Hanukkah 9 < Lightning 11 B (KO) This was an easy choice straight off the colour chart - pink/yellow. No complications from the "weak against" column.
15 Warrior King 12 < Diamond 15 B (KO) Banshee 13 lost an hour earlier. Diamond was on the breeding den and I didn't want to speed her up. Wish I had now.
16 Loch Ness 9 < Lightning 11 bmm Lightning is my senior pink, unless yellow is contraindicated. He's up next round too - busy day for him.
17 Mirage 9 < Lightning 11 Bb Another match straight off the colour charts with no complications. Lighting has a rarity advantage, a level advantage and yellow is strong against two of his opponents colours, pink strong against the other. Match made in heaven - for the winner.
18 Thunderstorm 9 < Landworm 10 B (KO) I was tempted to try Forest 11 as the colour chart screams green, however the single type dragons rarely work for me. Given Landworm's rarity advantage and no colour weakness, I played it safe.
19 Gilded 12 < Diamond 15 bM Well, I'm in shock. Ms Diamond has won twice today.
20 Highland 14 < Diamond 15 bM OK - NOW I am going to buy a tatts ticket. WOO HOO! THREE TIMES!
21 Storm 12 < Shadow 7 bMm Lightning 11, Gilded Knight 11, Warrior Prince 10 lost I really have to elevate Shadow ASAP. Still followed the colours with Shadow, but was concerned about his level. Clearly not a problem.
22 Thunderbird 14 < Gilded Knight 11 bmm Pink Lotus 4 lost - I was waiting for Gilded Knight to heal, so gave Pink Lotus a first outing to see how that would go. Well enough she is about to hit the evolution temple.
23 Twilight 16 < Watermelon 10 Bb First choice out of what I have available, and he performed to his usual high standards.
24 FrostFire 17 < Lightning 11 B (KO) Ditto above really. I'm in shock how well my team are perfoming this tournament.
25 Steelflare 19 < Diamond 15 bmm I HAVE NO WORDS! 4 out of 4 for Ms D.

27 Triceratops 18 < Maple 13 bM Crusader 12, Gilded Knight 11, Fire 12 lost I find this curious. Maple's magic is yellow, yet yellow is not supposed to be strong against Dino type. This is not the first time I have noticed this and it puzzles me. The magic hit was a crit.
28 Santa 20 < Lightning 11 B (KO) Straight off the colour chart. Pink/purple would have done too.
29 Spooky Tree 20 < Gilded Knight 11 bM Bride of Franken 6, Ghost Armor 10, Quetzal 10, Forest 11 lost. Bride of Franken just a little young yet, I fear, but she did better than the others, perfect colour combo for the job.
30 Avalanche 20 < Nouveau 10 ?? Sorry - forgot the strikes! Banshee 13, Beast 15 lost Banshee and Beast both Rare, Nouveau is Ultra and I think that gave her the edge, plus she had three colour strengths in her favour, the others only two.

No 40% gold sales, Gold dragons are more expensive, no gold quest, no 5 gold during tournaments. I'm so surprised we still get the 30 gold for installing new games plus 15 gold for every level goal. Well, now I probably jinxed it.

It's the second tournament I can't get past the Champions. And I am really fed up with 20+ losses in a row, and as I was never able to breed a diamond, which seems to be a solution working for many around, I decided not to bother with Champions anymore. I was never quite lucky in any lottery and if the ratio is 10% or even less for every new try regardless of the dragon picked to fight, I am just loosing my patience and fun in the game...

I got gold brick path as a reward too and was a bit confused as to why I was receiving it. I thought I was receiving 30 gold for installing and 15 gold for leveling up, but I haven't paid close attention.

Took me a month to figure this out since returning to the game but you do get a reward after downloading the game. Due to something to do with apple they are not allowed to place the reward for downloading the game. So after downloading a quest will come up stating to buy decoration to receive award.

Yes give yourself a little kick for all the gold you have been missing out on lol. But don't worry the games come back around least that is what I told myself.

Jjblueyes, the blank has been blank ever since I've been playing, on iOS (android is different). I always still got the rewards. The blank is becausse of Apple policy. After the successful download, one had to buy a bit of decor or visit community to receive the reward. Not so in Android.

Utili68 is right. I got the gold path for Winter Wonderland part 2. Part 1 gives you gold after purchasing a decoration and then part 2 the paths after planting or harvesting I think.

To clean up my iphone, I deleted a bunch of games I downloaded just to earn rewards. Suddenly I started getting more offers. I guess to can't get an offer to download a program if it is already downloaded. Try deleting all the games you don't play regularly and see what happens.

Yeah I have to say that is pretty nickle and dime to kick your players like that. No gold quest and cut the gold in near half for these events.

I also noticed a trend lately, but I didnt want to say...it seems the new dragons of value have SUPER long evolve/hatch times..I dont recall in the past many but the ultra rare being 20 plus and it seems to be going up and up and up.

Someone is squeezing for margins for sure.

ROTFLMAO! It is very salty, so too much is, well, TOO much! LOL. I love it with cheese and lettuce - makes for a fatter sandwich! LOTS of butter on toast, little Vegemite!

My husband studied in Rome while in college. He came home with nutella and shared it with his family. His mother particularly liked it. A couple of years later he brought home some vegemite. A lot of people swear by using new dragons, especially the won dragons from Dragon Tales event and mining dragons. Here (http://forums.storm8.com/showthread.php?87124-Avalanche-Dragon-Tournament&p=1217638&viewfull=1#post1217638)are my results so far and the Dragon Tales event dragons work really well for me, even Beast Dragon at level 11.

Sorry Baristos. My Diamond KOed him, first time she's been that successful. So no suggestions from me from today. Harvest seems quite good at Champs if you have him, but Diamond is the standard solution. Just usually doesn't work for me.

This is the first tournament in which I have two champs to use and it has definitely helped out. Battlesteed has taken care of business quite admirably, but when he has lost (only a few times), Dueler has stepped in, eager to prove himself, and won. :) Diamond took care of Warrior King and Highland.

Hoping that the rest of the rounds go smoothly as well.

I got it with firestorm 10 after lvl 15 diamond and infinity both lost twice each and lvl 15 beast and lvl 13 fire lost too. So try firestorm. Good luck!

Two rounds to go.

I've enjoyed this tournament a lot. This was my eighth tournament and third in a row where I haven't (yet anyway, watch the last two rounds get me now) used an Ultimate.

Had the opportunity to try out some of my younger dragons to see if I liked their potential (eg Prime Chroma, Night Imp, Dueler - I did like), Beast had his first official outing and won, Lightning was his usual superb self winning five rounds (he won seven last tournament, it is amazing how often pink/yellow is the preferred combo). Diamond redeemed herself after several poor performances in the past - she got extra ice cream for dinner.

Sadly I'm not much enamoured of the prize, Avalanche, but not being attracted to it probably let me be a bit more adventurous with my choice of dragons. My personalised colour chart I am developing is coming along nicely and proving very useful to me.

Now if I can just knock off those last two........

In Round 28 , against Santa I chose Marshmallow Lv12 ( Pink , Yellow, Purple). But I lost miserably . According to me Marshmallow was perfect choice , even better than Lightning . I saw , some one winning using Forest which is not at all strong but has to be avoided against Red ,
Then what's Wrong ? Are we just getting Lottery ticket when we log onto Battle or what ? Why should Marsmallow lose miserably ? Or some players are categorised to lose even after using Best Possible Dragon . Can any one please tell me why should I lose miserably - except WEIRD. Randomness of the Game ?

Maybe you just got really unlucky with the random variable on this particular battle. I'd heal Marshmallow and go in again. I'd also take EnchantedG's advice and restart your device before the second attempt. Lose I could accept, lose miserably is a bit weird.

It is perhaps worth noting that Marshmallow is only Rare, not Super Rare (Lightning is Super Rare). I do think rarity comes into it, especially when there is also level disparity. Supposedly the factors are: level, rarity, strengths/weaknesses (colour/type) and the random variable (to mix it up a bit) but the mathematical relationships of those factors are unclear and quite possibly subject to "enhancement" or adjustment from time to time - that may be required due to the constant introduction of new dragons all the time.

DeeDe, Marshmallow is indeed Great Fighter and won several battles for me with few exceptions ! I was shocked to see that He lost almost ridiculous way ! Both Lightning n Marshmallow come very handy for me . Uptill now , I have never ever experienced the disparity in their Rariry and hence it was shocking to me . Any ways , The Battles in this game are definitely not based on Scientific way as it should be !

Oh, stevenlee2905, you amaze me with your Fire, Forest, Air successes. My three are useless 90% of the time. Having said that, they don't get the opportunities you give yours, because I expect mine to lose! Hard for them to win if I don't let them try, I suppose.

Now there is no tournament happening, I will give all three some trials. :)

My Island, Magic, Light and Water are all still languishing around the level 6 and 7. Fruitful I hide in the stable because I don't like him one little bit.

It seems that something Weird going on with Battles ! In Rd 28 , My Marshmallow lost miserably against Santa . Lightning sent Santa back in next Battle . now Rd 29 , Ying Yang ( Super Rare ) lost n then Bride of Franken Lv 9 also lost against Spooky Tree ! What Stupid randomness is this , that people win with Forest n Air , n Fruitful n Dragons with perfect choice are losing badly ! This is just Lottery n Some players are simply put to bad Luck for suffering losses !

Only at round 6 of the tournament. My motivation to play quickly goes into the ground when the game crashes every other minute and I'm not going to restart my device every day. Doing that should not be needed to play a game.
Besides that I don't care much for the design of the dragon. The flight animations of every Celestial based dragon looks like it's simply broken/physically improbable

I didn't play at all yesterday- my dad was visiting, watched my Seahawks DOMINATE the other guys & then we went to get our Christmas tree.
( cut er down in the woods! How manly. We have a fake true for the downstairs that is the family tree and has colors and fun sentimental ornaments & then we go get the real tree for a formal tree in the upstairs living room, Gold & white with a little maroon splashed in to complement my butter colored walls with cherry wood furniture. ..... spoiled kids have no idea how good they have it! My mom had her formal tree when I was growing up and we could never display our homemade love or fun ornaments so I put up 2 so that everyone gets what they want...)

Then we went out for dinner for my son's 17th bday.

So, long story short I'm so behind its not funny, but I wouldn't have traded my day for 4 prize dragons!

I'm building up some babies right now as I see how many champs are in this one. Little nuts. That's my plan anyways. Throw babies in every other round.

Doing good yourself my friend enchanted!
I didn't play at all yesterday- my dad was visiting, watched my Seahawks DOMINATE the other guys & then we went to get our Christmas tree.
( cut er down in the woods! How manly. We have a fake true for the downstairs that is the family tree and has colors and fun sentimental ornaments & then we go get the real tree for a formal tree in the upstairs living room, Gold & white with a little maroon splashed in to complement my butter colored walls with cherry wood furniture. ..... spoiled kids have no idea how good they have it! My mom had her formal tree when I was growing up and we could never display our homemade love or fun ornaments so I put up 2 so that everyone gets what they want...)

Then we went out for dinner for my son's 17th bday.

So, long story short I'm so behind its not funny, but I wouldn't have traded my day for 4 prize dragons!

Any other ideas for Steelflare? It's chomping up all my dragons of random colours. I only got past on one account because of a sync error.

After lost 7 times...I win by Firestorm (10) (mM). [Try use this method to attack].

I remember beating the Santa with Candy Corn Level 8. Thought it fun that Halloween beat out Christmas...
Used Beast 13 for Scarecrow, Thunderbird, and Twilight.
Used Mystic 8 for Frostfire.

Just won Avalanche with Mystic Level 8, BMM, but barely. Lost with Island 9, Peacock 8, Carnival 10, Storm 8.

Oh, stevenlee2905, you amaze me with your Fire, Forest, Air successes. My three are useless 90% of the time. Having said that, they don't get the opportunities you give yours, because I expect mine to lose! Hard for them to win if I don't let them try, I suppose.

Now there is no tournament happening, I will give all three some trials. :)

My Island, Magic, Light and Water are all still languishing around the level 6 and 7. Fruitful I hide in the stable because I don't like him one little bit.

Thank you so much, Gul and Deede99. I've had very hard time in the previous two tournaments (Venomous and Dueler dragon's tourney). At that time it seems that nothing worked for me, even commons that used to be great in battle lost to the opponents again and again. If you did see my result at that time, you would notice that I used Spirit Warrior, Diamond, and Diamond Hybrids several times in the tourney because I have no choice and I stucked so have to use my last weapon. Uncounted losts made me burn-out, really...
Deede99, you won't know what will happen before you try it. Some illogical (out of sense too IMO) thing also made me think how come this happened, let's say my two Epic Fire dragons (their name: Blaze and Pompi) have different characteristic. Blaze was really great in battle arena, but Pompi wasn't as great as his older brother. Blaze is my first Fire dragon. The one that u saw in my results after all this time were all great job done by Blaze, he is a great fighter for me in tourney, even in regular arena, but when used as breeding parents, he made me headache because he often produced commons. On the other hand, Pompi wasn't as great as Blaze, he often lost in battle arena/tourney (I've tried it several times before), but when used as breeding parents, he gave me many rare/super rare dragons, such as Goodwitch and many more. So, my Goodwitch's father is Pompi, not Blaze. Maybe you can figure out which commons/dragons in ur island work great for u. Don't expect them to lose before you try it. Yea, you can say it again, give them some trials. Good luck, guys. :)

I had no trouble with any of the champs this time (beat round 25 on first attempt with Diamond) but now Snowstorm just won't go down. It's weird how these things go sometimes! Luckily there's still plenty of time left.

I am having the same experience. I finally took out Snowstorm with my level 10 Time Travel. Good luck!

I usually do fairly well in tourneys. I've won quite a few dragons. But this time I'm so close but only a few days left. I've gotten pretty black and blue! Almost ready to run home and lick my wounds lol. I just expanded,and spent a million coin on a cosmic habitat. Plus need baby food. And try to keep tourney money. And healing coins. I only need 3 whew its tough this time.

Just completed the tournament, after finally taking down Triceratops, the final three were smooth sailing. This is my second tournament in a row with no gold spent and the one previous just one speed up. Very happy with how my gang is doing. the beast put in a good showing as did Lightning, and Jester continues to impress. I levelled up Jester to nine but it will be a bit till he gets to epic with him being a food pattern H. Beauty is just out of temple and I have come to the realization, she is relatively cheap to feed so very thankful I finished, since Cotton Candy did well this time but still needs to go epic. I do find the Ultra Rares tend to do very well so it is my belief (which disagrees with many here) that unbeedables are better than our breedables especially when it comes to super Rares and ultras. My battle history seems to confirm this. Even the unbreedable Rares seem to do better than the breedables super Rares most of the time, and are always my first choice in arena battles. An exception of course is the diamonds and diamond hybrids. Other exceptions are where no unbreedable exists, for example, Jester performs very well but his rare cohorts appear to be pretty much useless and only there to keep him company. the sane seems to go for the zodiacs with only the expired super Rares and the diamond hybrid being if clue. I have six zodiacs and have never won a simpngle round with any zodiac dragon ecpxxeot Scorpio even tho most are levered to at least 7 and one is epic. lLevel does not seem to matter too much if you have both rarity and type advantage but I normally don't test the waters prior to level 8. I have enough options that it just is not necssesary, in fact I could use epic champions for every round if I were so inclined but that's just not my style of play.

My full results are on page two, I did not break down my rationale but if you have questions you can message me. You will notice that I used a champion in only three or four battles as I prefer to Color match if possible and find it more effective and more rewarding most of the time.

Drove me nuts too, scorpion came real close with red magic would try him again if I had him but maple got him for me after healing I lost fire, champs, prism so think red yellow definitely your best shot. Good news was it was easy peasy after the Dino.

It has taken me 40 hours, something over 20 attempts and still failed to beat Steelflare. Much to my annoyance I used 30 gold to beat it and move on. Still got 13 dragons waiting to heal, just hope the last few are a bit easier.

There are my results.
I used no gold. Maple won 17 rounds, and Banshee and Beast basically did the rest. I'm impressed :) (And I'm still so sad that my Champions suck so badly. They rarely win.)

This was a surprisingly easy tournament. I'm still convinced they change the success rate during tournaments where you can win a Champion because the last ones were so ridiculously difficult, but the "normal" tournaments and battles are really easy.

Frostfire was unexpectedly naughty. Steelflare is supposed to be a little bit harder to beat, but is getting annoying by now.

Are you talking about those swirly parts? I notice them on all the limited dragons. I think it's just something they do to indicate it's limited.

Been stuck on Snowstorm since last night about to throw in the towel on yet another tourney! These final five battles have been incredibly hard on me the past couple months I can't remember the last tournament I won without spending gold which I now refuse to do especially now since they reduced the amount of gold awarded!

I'm right there with you on the spending gold. Even though it's only 6 less pieces of gold awarded per tournament, it makes me not want to spend any gold. If I don't get the dragon, so be it, but I'm going to be greedy with my gold now that the rewards are being taken away.

Try anything with rainbow or your purples/blue/yellows.

I keep trying. Sorceress came close and just hatched a Coral so will try that next. Will keep on trying but not very confident of a good outcome.

Congratulations! Now you have your first, it will be easier. At least it was for me. The second (my seventh tournament) had a tough last round, but this one was easier still. You get confidence too - I used to panic a bit from round 20 onwards. Now I only panic in the last couple!

Thanks! I panicked with Steelflare, it crushed my best dragons like 15 times. The last rounds were very easy though, they all went down in the first try. Never happened to me before. Hopefully I can win a champion next time to keep my poor Rose Knight company, I got him from the Wheel earlier this year and needs another champ to train with.

Well, I finally beat Steelflare this morning after countless losses. Among the wounded were: Diamond 15 5x, Quetzal 11 2x, Ghost Armor 10, Crusader 11, Cupcake 9, Firestorm 9, Nightmare, 9, and a few others I can't think of at the moment.

I decided to pull Diamond 15 out of her retirement for the round, and she finally succeeded (bBb) on her 6th try. :p Yikes.

Here's hoping the rest goes smoothly & I can actually finish the tourney!

Yet another perfect example of battle randomness, with 30 losses this was my worst tournament ever... :confused:
But not complaining as I didn't have to spend gold and can go to bed early tonight :)

Thank you for this!! I had the exact experience: finally getting to Snowstorm, then getting stuck for a few rounds - only to get stuck on Triceratops. Well, I got lucky with my Maple! Thanks again - I wouldn't have ever tried it otherwise. :D

Passera - I hope you are able to beat it! Usually Camelot works for me, but didn't work this time, so I was very surprised about Maple working. Hopefully your Honeybee will work.

Ok, so I sped up my tournament because I had to work and was running out of time. I wasted 60 gold to make it to the end and as soon as I place my Avalanche egg in the nest my game crashes and I have no Avalanche egg, I have no refund on the gold and my tournament is back at level 1. I am currently at level 160 on dragon story and this is the first time I have considered quitting this game....I am not happy. ��

Have you checked to see if the egg is back in storage? Just a thought.

Have you restarted your device? It seems odd that your tournament has gone back to round 1 - that is several days data lost, not just one login session.

Yes, that was the first thing I checked. Then turned phone off and back on but still no egg and when I checked to see if maybe just needed to fight last battle again I was back on level 1. I emailed TL to see if they can restore my egg.

Thank you so much, Gul and Deede99. I've had very hard time in the previous two tournaments (Venomous and Dueler dragon's tourney). At that time it seems that nothing worked for me, even commons that used to be great in battle lost to the opponents again and again. If you did see my result at that time, you would notice that I used Spirit Warrior, Diamond, and Diamond Hybrids several times in the tourney because I have no choice and I stucked so have to use my last weapon. Uncounted losts made me burn-out, really...
Deede99, you won't know what will happen before you try it. Some illogical (out of sense too IMO) thing also made me think how come this happened, let's say my two Epic Fire dragons (their name: Blaze and Pompi) have different characteristic. Blaze was really great in battle arena, but Pompi wasn't as great as his older brother. Blaze is my first Fire dragon. The one that u saw in my results after all this time were all great job done by Blaze, he is a great fighter for me in tourney, even in regular arena, but when used as breeding parents, he made me headache because he often produced commons. On the other hand, Pompi wasn't as great as Blaze, he often lost in battle arena/tourney (I've tried it several times before), but when used as breeding parents, he gave me many rare/super rare dragons, such as Goodwitch and many more. So, my Goodwitch's father is Pompi, not Blaze. Maybe you can figure out which commons/dragons in ur island work great for u. Don't expect them to lose before you try it. Yea, you can say it again, give them some trials. Good luck, guys. :)

Maybe I should breed a new Fire, Steven! I've been giving Fire, Forest and Air all opportunities. Not one win yet, but numerous trips to the spa!

Not even remotely close to any wins, either.

I'll keep trying. Maybe my commons are missing the fight gene!

Beast and Night Imp, on the other hand, are shaping up nicely!
