This tournament there are two new animals that will get some exercise, being a level 14 Barn Owl and an epic level Trick-or-Treent. They partially 'tread on Ember terrain', so I must be careful to not let Ember get jealous and let its Gold Lion wrath loose upon me, but I'll definitely be putting in several rounds with those two new animals. :)

Notes on specific rounds:

#18: This morning I woke up and as a surprise I directly had to face the notorious Razorback. I had planned on trying the Trick-or-Treent against the gem animals in this tournament, but Ruby is precisely the one to which dark is weak, so I decided to give the Prize Pony the first two attempts. She got it on her second attempt, which is a great outcome against a level 16 gem ultra rare!
Note that the Trick-or-Treent would not have been a bad choice either; it's just that her "dark side" would have been neutraled out against the "fiery character" of the Razorback, so I opted to give the Prize Pony the first shots. Besides... the Prize Pony hadn't yet made an appearance in this tournament, so it was about time I'd put her in against something. :)

#21: Of course..... Moments after putting my Quartz Quetzalcoatl in the den, I face an opponent which is doubly weak to it, being the "pure earth" Rock Rhino. And to add insult to injury, my back-up plan in the form of the Ancient Sloth failed to secure an instant victory. :S
Still I don't (really) want to free the Quartz Quetzalcoatl from breeding unless one of the opponents is the Obsidian Cyclops....
Ah! The Ancient Sloth just did its thing and got the Rock Rhino on its second attempt. :)

#28: Sooooo... Finally we meet the Quartz Quetzalcoatl as an opponent. As it's a level 20 specimen, I expect to need a few turns to get past it. I shall alternate somewhat between the Swan Prince and the Trick-or-Treent. If neither of those two yields a victory within a few attempts, I'll probably try something else too...
UPDATE: The Trick-or-Treent got it on its very first attempt! The very first strike was directly a critical hit! Wow: this is an EXCELLENT fighter!!!

#29: Fortunately I had taken the possibility into account that we might have to face a level 20 Snapdragon (which is obviously one of TL's favourites for the last stages of tournaments). As I just found out that Autumn is strong to Spring two days before the start of the tournament, I saw to it that my Barn Owl would be at level 14 before that round. Normally I would have made it an epic, but in this case I like the normal adult version better, so at least for now it will stay at level 14. This is the first tournament in which I have an animal that is strong to Spring. Now let's hope it can secure a victory without too much trouble.
Update: Well, the Barn Owl's certainly struggling. It already lost 3 times. :( It's most definitely not "pulling an Ember"; if the owl doesn't secure a victory soon I may actually see if Ember can do the job!
Update nr. 2: Right after mentioned above that I might let Ember step in to take over the Barn Owl decided to "up its game" and scored an instant critical hit on the next attempt. Way to go buddy! You'll get there too. :)

Conclusions:
The Trick-or-Treent is everything I had hoped her to be: she took care of six of the rounds including the level 20 Quartz Quetzalcoatl, that's 20% of the rounds including the toughest level 20 ultra rare opponent.
And... not only did she so that, but she also did so on the very first attempt each round, meaning that she stands unbeaten and completely whitewashed its opponents!
But.... as her name 'Shadow' predicts, she does actually stand in the shadow of one even more awesome animal. I think by now you all know who I'm talking about.... Yes... good 'ole Ember outclassed the already stellar performance of the Trick-or-Treent by single handedly taking care of TEN rounds including the level 20 end prize, the Demonkey, and.... wait! There's more! Because... Ember too completely whitewashed ALL opponents! Unbeaten, the King of the Arena still stands!

#07: I need to find a way to get more battles in on weekdays. On round 7 at the end of day two?! Not great. :(

#18: I didn't think I'd pass this round in one attempt but my Epic Treent sent the Ruby Razorback packing. He's won 8/9 battles first attempt so far, definitely one of my strongest animals. Go Woody!

#20: This kangaroo is causing quite the hold up. I'm going to give my newly epic cyclops a try... Update: Nope :(. Looks like I'll be stuck here for a while. Update #2: My Crystal Unicorn finally brings the Sidekicker down on its third attempt.

#24: Six rounds left with 20 hours to go... I hope the Quartz Quetzalcoatl in round 28 doesn't cause too much trouble!

#28: Too many losses here, I haven't got time to get stuck! Update: Krystal the Unicorn knocks the (let's face it, gorgeous but stubborn) Quetzalcoatl!

#29: My Hibearnate is only level 10 (11 now) and isn't coping too well against its Level 20 opponent. I levelled it up after it lost at level 10 to see if it made a difference. Nope :( Only a few hours left. I'd hate to miss out this close! Update #2: After a level TWELVE Hibearnate failing to defeat the Snapdragon, I randomly pick an animal as a last resort... Epic Mardi Claw. Neutral dark attack, Critical electric!! Whoo!! I eventually beat it with a neutral animal! Now one more round, it's already 1 am here, hoping I can get this over soon.

#30: When I lost against the Demonkey with little over an hour left, I thought I wouldn't make it... But I managed to score a critical hit on my second try!! I had 6 minutes left! I'm so glad I got this, with the help of a few gems. This is the second tournament I've won in a row since Ogreve's amazing advice! Let's hope this doesn't end soon :P

Over all 30 -25

Some how the Ancient Sloth seems to have lost his supremacy. Normally I would get a win from him , but this time he has 2 losses ove lvl 2 animals
Round 15 -16 . Had expected some resistance but both went down in one critical hit.
So far it has been very easy tourney for me. Hope it continues this way. I know my nemesis is waiting for me in the next round , the ugly Frankenswine . It took me 22 tries to bring it down in the latest battleground . So have my fingers crossed.

Round 17 : The dreaded Frankenswine went down with one crushing blow... This little piggy cried wee wee wee all the way home :p
Round 19: I knew it was too good 5o last. Till now had a dream run 18 wins and 4 losses. The Swan Princess is acting a bit pricey and refusing to give up. Hope she goes down the next round.

Round 20 : Have started Day 4 with a loss. Hope to improve things later in the day. My only gem animal is in breeding so can use either fire or water elements. The super heron has lost twice .
Make that 2 more Losses to the sidekicker.. 1each to gold lion(fire) and Iciclaw water.
After my QQ also lost , tried the Wild wondercat. Was a little hesitant in using it as she is still at lvl 8 , but it gave me an instant victory. Should have used it earlier.

Round 24. Used my Treent 10 .Got a critical and then a weak hit. Won the battle , not complaining .

Round 29: The Snapdragon turned out to be very stubborn . As recommended used Autumn Equifox (Autumn ) it gave me strong hits but failed . Then tried my stronger fighters but all got neutral hits . Then after read the thread , used lvl 7 Harvest Hoarder and got an instant critical ( but after I had sped the timer) .

All done !!

Overall was having a good tournament until I hit the Snapdragon roadblock . As I do not have any Xmas creatures, my first option was to try my lvl 9 autumn Equifox. I failed Twice so I changed tactics and tried to use my strongest fighters. Then after reading the thread raised my harvest hoarder from lvl 3 to lvl 7 and then used it. It gave me an instant victory!!!

Not a very good start.

Its ironic. I use level 1 animals in the battleground to get data and I win too soon. Now in the tournament, I can't beat a level 1 animal.

Rounds 1-10: Bad start with two losses in the first round. I am surprised to see so many Dark combinations in the first 10 rounds. After a great performance by the Saintly Bernard at the end of the last tournament against Dark, I hoped to do well. So far he has a below average performance at 6-4. I tried mixing in the Treent who had a win and a loss. A typical performance for my Treent, as he never has been a very good battler. Six losses in the first 10 rounds is as bad a start as I have had in any 30 round tournament. Hopefully things will turn around soon.

Day1: Not a very good first day. Only 7 clean rounds out of 13 and two rounds with two losses.

Round 18: Anubis takes down the first Gem opponent. I have been waiting a couple tournaments for a good performance by him. Hopefully this tournament will be it. Still don't like the 10,000 coin reward on this round.

Round 19: Five straight victories come to an end and Caturn loses for the first time.

Rounds 20-21: Enter the Crystal Unicorn with mixed results. She was a bit embarrassed to lose to a commoner (Rock Rhino)

Round 23: Dark/Earth is not a match for Caturn so I went back to the Saintly Bernard , took 3 tries to win.

Day2: Went well until round 25 where the losses started to pile up as me move to Day 3. A couple 2 loss rounds but defeated the first Ultra Rare on the first round.

Round 25: Both Water and Earth tested Neutral against Captain K9. Xmas tested Strong and Fire tested Weak. Gem is Strong as well. Tried a few options but 11 losses so far. More than a 40% of my losses for the whole tournament on this round. I might as well just tested some other elements. Need this to turn around soon, it's getting ridiculous. Finally the 14th battle and the Melodeer finally takes down the Saintly Bernard. Second worse round I have ever had and it used up most of Day 3.

Final Rounds: The last few rounds went pretty well. Two losses to the Quartz Quetzlcoatl on round 28 not too bad and first round victories on the last two rounds brightened things up a bit. I guess is was appropriate that my Saintly Bernard took down the Demonkey since Captain K9 gave me so much trouble in round 25.

This tournament just goes to show you how luck works sometimes. If I had won the first battle on round 25, I would have had my best record ever for a 30 round tournament. Instead, I ended up with 13 defeats on that round and a losing record overall. Just need to find the time to hatch it now for the reward.

I've only been battling every now and then and actually hoping to get stuck so that this would be one of the token tough tourneys for me and I would have an easier time with another tourney that I would actually like to win but it's gone way too smoothly... :p Why are the ones I don't care about always the easy ones and the ones I really want to win really tough?

I have done some limited testing with Autumn. From what I have so far, Autumn is Strong attacking Water and Electric, Neutral attacking Dark, Nature and Earth, Weak attacking Fire. Autumn attacking Service is either Neutral or Weak.

I'm beginning to think it's predetermined how many losses we will have and which animals we get stuck on before we ever start the tournament. I know in one tournament I picked the wrong animal for a round, still got a critical and won, yet others were picking the ideal animals and getting stuck for many tries. It's really based on luck.
I'm also beginning to think the same about breeding , I think TL somehow predetermines who will get what animals and after how many attempts. The spin wheel same thing, that's determined before you even touch it.

I am inclined to agree with you. I have also picked the completely wrong opponent through reading the wrong box on the chart and got critical hits. Maybe as I am doing so badly with the right opponents in this tournament I should see how far I get using wrong ones!!

That what you write is something I somewhat suspect for specific "things" in this game. The recent Service Dogs trio and ALL of the Spin to Win features are on my "suspect list" for that. Mark my words: for this 3rd Spin to Win feature I *again* predict that I will NOT get any animal on a free spin (at least not on my main account). In fact: I'd almost dare to beat my left arm on that. :S
I 'somewhat' suspect the same about breeding gem-animals. I strongly doubt I'll ever be able to breed a Crystal Unicorn. No idea if I'll ever be able to breed a gem hybrid.
We'll see. I'll just act assuming such gross manipulation NOT to be the case, but I shall not easily be lured into a gem spending spree to try and force-breed something out. Maybe for some animals / things I'll try some speeding and who knows; if I ever trust the Spin to Win feature again and there's something particularly desirable on it, I may even take a few more paid spins too. I'll just make sure not to lose my head over it.
I really DO hope that my account is not blocked from such things, if such were the case all fun in the game would instantly be gone.

For tournaments I haven't really had that suspicion so much: I think that ZANDScape's statistical analysis is pretty correct: the outcome per battle seems to be predetermined the moment you lock in the opponent; at which time a RNG based win or lose is determined, for which you can up the odds of getting a win by picking good elemental matches, high level of rarity and high level of the animal itself.
My outcomes of "The Gold Lion" edition tournament also seem to be pretty consistent with that...

I somehow tend to agree with both Olafo and Sweetdeda. I think the game does have some predetermined codes for the accounts . Otherwise why would it be that one account gets not a single trio animal and another gets 2-3 of each. I have a neighbour who has 3 dalmation dogs . Now we can argue that they could be bought, but then why buy 3 of the same?
As for paying for spins , no I don't think I will do that, even though I got the grand prize in my 1st spin this time around.
I just wish they would make the odds of breeding new animals a little more favorable.

I agree as well. I have been pretty lucky on my main account with gemstones. I have bred the Crystal (on level 22 I think), Emerald & Razorback, bought the QQ and now I have the QQ/Hedgehog in my den with 45 he timer but due to lack of space and no chance of expanding, unless it is the Cyclops (in which case I will dump an earth creature in order to place) I will have to sell (which makes me sick to think). I have also been pretty lucky on the spin wheel 2 animals last one and 1 so far this time. However, breeding limited time animals and the treasure animals eludes me even after wasting many gems speed breeding. (It's like they know I'm going to waste the gems and then just buy the dang thing because I did this with the QQ, Trick or Treent, prize pony and will probably do it on the GHOSTRICH). I know... I'm complaining and most of you are like shut up you lucky girl, but continue...

Now my second account is actually the first account I started with, but after having such horrible luck breeding, I started a new one and put it on the back burner. I did get the Crystal early on, but then I could not get anything new. Could not win tourneys and the battleground were a disaster. Now that I don't play on it as much or spend gems, my breeding luck has improved significantly.

It just makes no sense.

I agree completely. Especially with regard to breeding. Gem animal. I have been trying for over 2 years to breed a crystal unicorn without any luck.

That what you write is something I somewhat suspect for specific "things" in this game. The recent Service Dogs trio and ALL of the Spin to Win features are on my "suspect list" for that. Mark my words: for this 3rd Spin to Win feature I *again* predict that I will NOT get any animal on a free spin (at least not on my main account). In fact: I'd almost dare to beat my left arm on that. :S
I 'somewhat' suspect the same about breeding gem-animals. I strongly doubt I'll ever be able to breed a Crystal Unicorn. No idea if I'll ever be able to breed a gem hybrid.
We'll see. I'll just act assuming such gross manipulation NOT to be the case, but I shall not easily be lured into a gem spending spree to try and force-breed something out. Maybe for some animals / things I'll try some speeding and who knows; if I ever trust the Spin to Win feature again and there's something particularly desirable on it, I may even take a few more paid spins too. I'll just make sure not to lose my head over it.
I really DO hope that my account is not blocked from such things, if such were the case all fun in the game would instantly be gone.

For tournaments I haven't really had that suspicion so much: I think that ZANDScape's statistical analysis is pretty correct: the outcome per battle seems to be predetermined the moment you lock in the opponent; at which time a RNG based win or lose is determined, for which you can up the odds of getting a win by picking good elemental matches, high level of rarity and high level of the animal itself.
My outcomes of "The Gold Lion" edition tournament also seem to be pretty consistent with that...

since i start playing FFS, 30 rounds tournaments always starts tuesday (why ? go figure)
for Dragon Story, it is always tuesday too except once ! and it is always 6 days (except once long ago where we had 7 days)

Yowza! This morning I woke up and as a surprise on round 18 I directly had to face the notorious Razorback. I had planned on trying the Trick-or-Treent against the gem animals in this tournament, but Ruby is precisely the one to which dark is weak, so I decided to give the Prize Pony the first two attempts. She got it on her second attempt, which is a great outcome against a level 16 gem ultra rare!
Note that the Trick-or-Treent would not have been a bad choice either; it's just that her "dark side" would have been neutraled out against the "fiery character" of the Razorback, so I opted to give the Prize Pony the first shots. Besides... the Prize Pony hadn't yet made an appearance in this tournament, so it was about time I'd put her in against something. :)

If you have any of those, try using a water-fire animal. I used my Super Heron which, after all, is a 'sparring partner' of the Sidekicker. It instantly "sidekicked" its *ss. :P
If you don't have a water-fire animal I'd use a strong fire animal (but not fire-earth). Opponents like these are normally had for breakfast by Ember, my Gold Lion. ;)

The utter supreme opponents would be the Emerald Dragon and the Quartz Quetzalcoatl. Not only are these two animals "doubly strong" against earth, but they're also ultra rares on top of that. I have a QQ (my only gem animal) but it's tied up in the den, breeding an endless chain of Plantlers in the hope a Ghostrich or gem-hybrid may be bestowed upon my forest. The Ancient Sloth had to take the part, and did. It beat the Rock Rhino on its second attempt.
Ye good 'ole 'Peggy the Pegasus' should also be able to do it just fine, but make sure its at a high level (this goes for any animal)...
Keep at it and you'll get it eventually!

You always have a chance. Having high level animals (preferably level 15) improves your odd in the later rounds greatly.

That is correct, xMas must be Strong against Service since Xmas is Neutral against Earth.

But... The most important thing is that another of these service dogs bit the dust, hehehe, finally vengeance is mine. :D

BTW: it wasn't until now that I retired the QQ from breeding. I'm sure that in somewhere in the rounds 26-29 there will still be a level 20 gem hybrid or Treasure animal hidden, so I decided to have my QQ at hand in case I need it to take out some strong opponent.

Gemstone alone is definitely 'Strong' against this service/earth combo because I tested my Crystal Unicorn (gemstone-only) against Captain K9 in the current Battlegrounds and got a 'Strong' result. ;)

I don't know why I did not think to use my QQ to begin with. I took a break for a couple of hours came back and tried the QQ with straight nature... Lost. Sped the timer used my Emerald (which is only level 10) lost. Sped the timer. Used my Pegasus and lost. Sped timer again and used my QQ, BUT switched and used Gem, Nature, Gem ... Finally won.

You can use one of the Sidekicker's two peers to do that for you. Either the Wild Wondercat or the Super Heron is brilliantly matched against the Sidekicker. ;)
I must confess: on my wife's iPhone where there are no epic super rares, I really like using the Sidekicker for many fights and it DOES perform very well overall spoken! :)
As for the QQ: you'd better save that one for rounds 24, 25 and 26, where it's a BRILLIANT (pun intended) opponent to choose. ;)

That's 20% of the entire tournament, and... that includes the level 20 Quartz Quetzalcoatl as an opponent! She's definitely going to be an addition to the core fighter selection of my A-team!
So far there's only one animal in this tournament who outperformed her. Can you guess which animal that is? :P

Ha ha, yes of course. "She-ent", love that. Just took out Yak-O-Lantern with Typhoon Tiger. Can't wait to try Tree Princess.

The Demonkey was defeated by Ember (of course) on the very first attempt! I think this is the first time that I beat the final round on the very first attempt. IIRC in all of the other tournaments I at least suffered 1 or 2 losses against the final opponent (not sure anymore).

Overall record: 16 losses vs. 30 wins. Easy tournament this time!
No gems were spent.

Conclusions:
The Trick-or-Treent is everything I had hoped her to be: she took care of six of the rounds including the level 20 Quartz Quetzalcoatl, that's 20% of the rounds including the toughest level 20 ultra rare opponent.
And... not only did she so that, but she also did so on the very first attempt each round, meaning that she stands unbeaten and completely whitewashed its opponents!
But.... as her name 'Shadow' predicts, she does actually stand in the shadow of one even more awesome animal. I think by now you all know who I'm talking about.... Yes... good 'ole Ember outclassed the already stellar performance of the Trick-or-Treent by single handedly taking care of TEN rounds including the level 20 end prize, the Demonkey, and.... wait! There's more! Because... Ember too completely whitewashed ALL opponents! Unbeaten, the King of the Arena still stands!

To get the reward, you must hatch the Demonkey before the timer for the tournament runs out. So it needs to be in the nest at least 17 hours before the tournament ends (unless you speed it) and you need to move it from the nest before the timer ends.

I am still trying to figure out the battles. Haven't got a strategy or anything in place , only thing I have done is to quickly raise my super rares and ultra rares( ya I do have ultras now :) ) to epic . Or highest lvl my food allows.
What I do not understand is that how can I get a critical hit and then a weak hit at the same opponent in one round.
Like in round 24 against the blizzard I got a critical hit with my Treent and then a weak one to finish it off. I won the battle and am not complaining...but it is a bit puzzling.

This is because Blizard is an Earth/Water element and Treent of Life is weak to water. There is always a chance for a critical hit no matter what. It's just that type advantage provides a better chance at a critical hit. So if you used a Gem creature then your attacks would register "strong" and you would have a higher chance of a critical hit

My animals that I use in battles and tournaments are all level 15 except for electric/fire (level 11) and electric/nature (level 10). I've never had problems in the past with taking down a dark/fire, but using everything I had would not take down Demonkey...very frustrating! Decided, because of your love and faith in Ember, to try my level 11 Gold Lion (Midas). Beat Demonkey with Midas in the twelfth round. I know you have some wonderful new animals now, but don't ever underestimate the power of Ember!

I found this tournament quite difficult, despite still finishing with a winning record. Multiple losses on 14 rounds, with the Steel Wolly Mammoth being my toughest opponent.

Round #28 - Quartz Quetzlcoatl - I just wanted to share that I just managed, finally (after 7 losses!!) to beat the QQ with my Terrorier (level 12), using the dark element. So, for those of you who are struggling with this round, you may give this dude a try. Since he was one of the bosses at the Battlegrounds, it's probable that a lot of people have him, and he's only a rare, not a super fancy one. And managed to beat the QQ, and save me 30 gems, hehe!

I dont care, because I am not going to finish this tournament, not interested in it, because so many fire dark, not necessary for me to have 6 or 7 of them...
costs me too much space with habitats, and the game, I admitt, is becoming boring (what concernncs only me !!) ..... always the same..... maybe one of these days I will give it up..... without emotion, lol

Yes! Just got my Demonkey! After the bad start I had with tons of losses to low level animals, I didn't think I would make this one. But never give up! My team pulled through with Fladingo leading the way with a first try victory over the QQ! My little level 12 Equifox was even able to take down the spring dragon after only a few tries. Sorry, I know I should keep better records, I just don't always have time to keep track.

Same boat. Never did get lucky enough to get any Xmas animals and I have no room to hatch the autumn brood. It takes me almost a month to clear space for new habitat. Very slow and very frustrating.

That's terrible! I did manage to get it down in two more attempts (after speeding with gems :rolleyes:) with a random choice, epic Mardi Claw. I was like lucky enough to score a critical with a neutral animal. Best of luck with your next try.

Glad you got through! I just had another loss. I haven't used gems for a tournament in awhile but I think I'm going to have to speed to try to get through.

It took 15 tries and 3 gems but I finally beat snapdragon. One more round, hard to believe I was actually enjoying this tournament up until round 29 using just my Ponies to battle. Snapdragon just beat the heck out of me!

I ended up getting the main prize :) had to spend 90 gems coz I wouldn't make it on time and I thought I shouldn't waste my time all the way through if I'm not gonna get the main prize haha. Oh well it's still better than 1400 gems. Well I know now that higher lvl animals are better and my goal would be to get some super rares up to lvl 15 so I can manage battles with no gems :> thanks to everyone who posted their results it's helpful to see what animals do good in general then others!

My final results were 29-28. I only battled when I remembered to and had a chance. It was a nice feeling to do a tournament that you don't want to win because there's absolutely no stress.

This was the first prize that I absolutely did not want to win. That's why I only battled Demonkey once and, thankfully, lost. No demons in my forest or storage, thanks!!

I get the impression that this time round not a lot of people participated in the tournament. I think the main reason is that not a lot of people liked the prize animal. I must say that I don't like the animal very much either, it has the same schmuck look on its face as the Aperil Fool, which I also don't like very much, in fact it looks like an Aperil Fool on fire. :)
Anyway: a tournament is a tournament, so I want to win them. It was the same or the Nocturtle one. I like that animal itself due to its colours, but the candles are really off for me. It may take a while before these two animals will get hatched.
I sure hope the next tournament has a prettier/cooler prize animal, like e.g. the Toronado. I reached level 17 around the time the Toronado tournament came round but of course at that time I never even got close to winning it. Bummer as that was such a beautiful animal. Same for the Landshark, Childebeest, Slippopotamus and the Greyhound. Those five tournaments were the first ones I could compete in, and I never made it to the end line. That got really under my skin. I think the first one I won was the Dread Panda. I still had to use an ultimate attack on 1 or 2 rounds and barely made it. After that tournament I started raising my fighter squad and I haven't missed out on a tournament since. With the Nocturtle in the end I had to do quite a bit of speeding as the last rounds came with heavy losses. Go figure. :P

That's what I was doing, as I was including the unicorn and Pearl Peryton in as fighters. I may very well try it again next tournament. Snapdragon was my only snag as I had to at least try barn owl which did eventually win. Other than that round and using love dove early on (round 2 I think) which was a loss, I did use just horse-like or my ponies as I like to call them and was having a great tournament.

No offense to those who like Demonkey, but I do not feel bad about missing this tournament at all. That is one fugly monkey. Honestly, when I look at some of the other recent limited animals (Hummingburn, Fallmingo, Halloweasel from Spin to Win), the breedable Ghostrich, the beautiful Autumn animals, a lot of the tournament prizes look blah in comparison.

Congratulations to those who got Demonkey and I hope those that didn't have better luck in the next tournament.
