Arctic island help

I just unlocked the Arctic Island and got the ice age dragon. He is now levelled up to level 4 and its has 143 an hour. The habitat says only 12. So I am confused I thought I would get 143 and hour lol. What's the purpose of them levelling up?

To get Glacius The Ancient. You need 10 unique Artic Isle Dragons at level 10 to unlock him.

The whole ordeal is entirely worthless, to me, but if you want it that's how you do it.
