Ok, as indicated earlier, I'm going to try to make this tournament the Gold Lion edition. I shall TRY to see how far I can get by picking Ember, my epic Gold Lion, for EACH round!
If I find that at a certain point this doesn't work out, I may switch to my normal strategy so as to not endanger a tournament win. :P

Notes on specific rounds:
Rounds 10 and 17:
These rounds have odd results. In round 10 I suffered two losses and in round 17 I've suffered THREE losses! :(
The Gold Lion is strong against both opponents (and even "doubly strong" against the Peamoth). Go figure. It's annoying to be loosing time over opponents that should really be beaten on the first attempt. Especially as round 23 will have a level 18 Obsidian Cyclops to which the Gold Lion is "doubly weak" AND is outleveled AND is of lower rarity. :O

Round 23:
Up until (inclusive) round 22 I've had 19 losses vs. 22 wins, all done with Ember the epic Gold Lion alone. No gems were used.
However....
...precisely as I feared I'm now on what will probably be the toughest round; the true Achilles heel in my plan: a level 18 Obsidian Cyclops. It is:
-Of higher level than the Gold Lion (18 vs. 15).
-Of greater rarity than the Gold Lion (ultra rare vs. super rare).
-"Doubly strong" against the Gold Lion's elements: as the Gold Lion's fire and electric elements are both neutral against gem and WEAK against earth.
Just as expected it's an onslaught. Already it beat me 5 times. I wonder how many more times I'll lose from it. Not nice that the first ultra rare just *had* to be the Cyclops. :(
UPDATE: GOT IT ON THE 6TH ATTEMPT!!

Round 25:
Here we find ANOTHER high level earth opponent to which the Gold Lion is doubly weak. This one also had the Gold Lion pinned down. 4 losses. Fortunately I got it on the 5th try.
I really hope the rest of the rounds will go a bit easier, as it's very time consuming to be stuck so long on each of these rounds...

Round 26:
I had initially listed the first two attempts with the day 4 results, but they were obtained after midnight, so technically spoken that's day 5. :P
All the same, maybe Ember is feeling some battle fatigue. He normally gets much quicker by opponents like these. Again it lost several times already and it needs to hurry up. Come on Ember, GET THAT SOBEK!!!

Round 28:
Well, this was to be expected I guess, whereas I hoped to get by the Peregrin without too much trouble, Ember is WELL stuck on it.... I really need it to step up, because after this one there are 2 more level 20 animals to beat....
Update: DID IT!!! I just looked Ember sternly in the eyes and said: "Take him down in a single critical hit!" ...and he did! So, exit Citrine Peregrin! With the ultra rares out of the way, I hope the door to victory is open! Two more animals to go, both level 20, with the very last one having the earth element in it. I'm not taking those rounds for granted. Let's hope I can beat both of those opponents too, all without double battling!

Round 30:
DID IT, DID IT, DID IT!
Without having spent a single gem in the entire tournament, with 1 day, 8 hours and 23 minutes to spare, on its second attempt Ember stands victorious!!!

Round 4 - Poor choice here but won anyway. I like using Cosmic against Dark but forgot that it is weak against Earth. I can do better than Neutral attacks.

Round 6 - Disappointing loss. Had all the advantages in this one.

Round 11 - The Super Heron make a good first impression by winning it's first battle.

Round 13 - Caturn seems to be struggling a bit against the Dark combinations this tournament. I may need to consider a switch.

Round 15 - The Swan Prince makes his first appearance of the tournament with a win. Hopefully, he will do better in this tournament after a disastrous tournament last time.

Round 17 - Decided to give Caturn another chance. That didn't work out so well. We will see if it can maintain it's record of winning on the second battle.

Round 18 - I don't like it when they raise the level of an animal for a round that doesn't flow with the ones before and after. It's almost like they think the animal in that round is protecting something special. I don't consider 10,000 coins something special.

Round 19 - Seems like I have hit that point in the tournament where I generally lose the first time on a round. Hopefully I have a few more first time wins ahead of me.

Round 21 - Time for my level 15 Ultra-Rares ( All 3 of them) to help make the push to the end.

Round 22 - That Werewolf was awfully purple. Mine is brown. Happy to see it go down. Love the Crystal Unicorn for Earth/Nature animals. Double Whammy.

Round 23 - First of the Ultra Rare opponents. Loss in the first round but won the second, Not bad.

Round 24 - First round with more than one loss. Now that I have a couple of Ultra-Rares to use, It has become more obvious to me that an advantage in level is better than an advantage in rarity.

Round 26 - Since nothing is strong to Egypt, I will try rotating my Ultra Rares. Each one has had a crack, all losses. Tried Anubis hoping an Egypt Super Rare would be an Egypt Rare, but another loss. Didn't find anything Strong but the Turtle Dove managed a win.

Round 28 - The second Ultra-Rare is proving to be a problem. Another 6 losses for the Swan Prince. Finally a victory on the 7th try.

Well, that ended well. A good tournament to have a Crystal Unicorn.

PS: These tournaments usually roll out at midnight my time . So I am able to get in only one or 2 rounds on day 1.
My Quartz Quetzcoaatl (QUARTZY as I call it ) my one and only gem animal, made his first appearance. I think I should have waited to raise him to epic before I used him, but could not resist the temptation to try it out. Never mind QUARTZY you will have your day too .
TULIP TAPIR... Was expecting a struggle here. Don't have any X Mas animals. So took Chippy's advice and used my strongest ( for me as it is my only ultra at epic lvl) . The Swan Prince came through and the tapir went down in 2 shots. YAY... :)

I was expecting a tough round with the obsidian cyclops, but that went down fine. Only two loss to it. It's the lemurcury that has been a little stubborn. Ha be already got beat 4 times by it.

Anyone notice a difference in the graphics for battle? The font for the words appears to have changed.

Yeah ever since updating to iOS 9 my phone works terrible; it's become really sluggish, gets stuck on the lock screen and the opening screen and when the screen finally turns on, and once I'm in, all the time it causes FFS to reload on every time I go into it and it totally messed up the fonts in every app. Horrible. I think I'll send a complaint to Apple for turning my snappy Apple into a Windows machine. :(

Round 10: Whereas my epic Unicorn failed twice in beating Eagle Beagle (poor thing must be exhausted from trying for the Dalmatian non-stop!), epic Lullabison blasted that sucker away with one critical music hit. Way to go, Dolly!

Round 14: looks like this is starting to go as badly as the Dusk Bunny tourney. Will have hardly any time to battle tomorrow and Saturday so may not continue after today depending on how far I get. Finally beat the Yeti on the 8th try!

Round 28: Wow! Treent KOed Citrine with the very first hit!

Timbear!!! The bear went down on the first try too! This was a fun, no stress tournament except for a bit when I got stuck on Confetti Yeti. Excellent! Very happy I skipped Wondercat and raised my fighters instead. I had a clear run of victories on first attempt through rounds 27-30. That is a first for me and very welcome! :)

Either should work. Fire is strong against dark and water is strong against fire. It took me 2 tries, I think I used fire. Dusky the husky is the opponent. Good Luck.

Are you sure round 18 is Tulip Tapir? I haven't gotten there myself but according to pinkflower7777 Round 18 is Skeletal Dragon.

Well, I did mention "a plan" in some other posts before the tournament and I'm currently executing it: I'm trying to see if I can fight the complete tournament with Ember, my beloved epic Gold Lion alone. :)

It's 00:20 CET here in Europe now, so it's time to go to bed. Right up until the end of day 2 (with day 1 starting at 20:30 CET, so that's only a very short day) I have now completed the first 13 rounds. So far it is going pretty well: 9 losses vs. 13 victories. Not bad considering that there were quite a few opponents that have earth as one of their elements, and BOTH of the elements of the Gold Lion are weak to that. That's definitely the Achilles heel of this plan, especially with a level 20 earth-nature animal on the last round. :S

It's fun to try this once! I really wonder how the rest of the tournament will go. Round 13 saw a level 8 animal as opponent. I think the rounds will very soon get a lot tougher. If I find that in some 2-3 days from now the plan endangers a tournament win too much, I may still revert to doing the later rounds with my normal opponents. I really hope I can see it all the way through with the Gold Lion alone though. :P

I was really hoping the gem ultra rares would be the Quartz Quetzalcoatl, Emerald Dragon, Sapphire Cthulhu and/or the Pearl Peryton. But.... just as if TL had advance knowledge of my "Gold Lion only plan", on round 23 I find the worst possible opponent: the Obsidian Cyclops. I can only hope to get past that in a reasonable amount of time, but as the Gold Lion is "doubly weak" to it, that round will definitely be the Achilles heel of my plan.
Round 28 will not be a picknick either, as the Citrine Peregrin is neutral to the elements I can put up against it.

Sometimes I wonder just how much choosing 'Strong' attacks effects the outcome of the rounds - if at all - but only the developers know for sure and unless they're willing to let us in on any ratios or formulas they have it's really up to us to figure out what works best for ourselves.

When I first started out with this game I only ever used 1 fighter over and over... it seemed to work just fine with the Battlegrounds but when tournaments opened up for me it didn't work so great and I couldn't win them. It was only after I discovered these forums and all the helpful information and people here that I finally began to win them. So since leaning toward fighters that have 'Strong' attacks works for me I'll keep sticking with it. :)

O.k., so you're a "she", thanks for telling me; interestingly enough many people's writing styles give an indication as to their gender, but others have a more "neutral" style. From your posts I was never sure. :)
BTW I messed up writing the part "(s)he can then simply in his fighter selector" in a gender-neutral way as I should have written "(s)he can then simply in their fighter selector". Sorry about that! :P

As for the fighters: before raising my A-Team I was cr*p at the tournaments and the first ones I could participate in were lost. Nowadays, when paying attention to the elemental selection, level and rarity, the 30-round tournaments tend to be quite easy actually. The flash tournaments are harder due to their unfavourable timeframe in Europe. Still, I've not lost a single of those either since creating and properly using my A-team.

This tournament's Gold Lion experiment is fun to do. I've now completed the first 20 rounds without too much trouble. Interestingly enough the round with most losses was against the level 12 Peamoth (3 losses) against which the Gold Lion SHOULD be "doubly strong", then the next round with the level 16 Skeletal Dragon to which the Gold Lion is "doubly weak" saw only 2 losses.

I like my experiment. I've reached the stages now where I expect the true trouble to begin. Round 23 will probably be the worst, but round 28 will also not be easy. We'll see how it plays out. :P

Alright, the level 16 Werewolf of round 22 just went down in flames (after two losses).
Up until (inclusive) round 22 I've had 19 losses vs. 22 wins, all done with Ember the epic Gold Lion alone. No gems were used.

However....

...now comes what I fear to be the toughest round; the true Achilles heel in my plan: a level 18 Obsidian Cyclops. It is:
-Of higher level than the Gold Lion (18 vs. 15).
-Of greater rarity than the Gold Lion (ultra rare vs. super rare).
-"Doubly strong" against the Gold Lion's elements: as the Gold Lion's fire and electric elements are both neutral against gem and WEAK against earth.

I fear this round will put a severe dent into the up until now not so bad track record.....

Just as expected round 23 against the level 18 Obsidian Cyslops is an onslaught. Already it beat me 5 times. I wonder how many more times I'll lose from it. Not nice that the first ultra rare just *had* to be the Cyclops. :(
I just hope I can get by it today. If not, I may have to revert to using my normal fighters. That would be a real pity...

Here's the interesting part, I was getting frustrated and used 4 gems to skip my hour waiting time after my sixth loss and won on my seventh. I seriously wonder if that's a coincidence or if that's how the game is programmed when you're willing to spend gems.

I completed the tournament with an overall record of 30-24, see post #4 for details. It was one of my better 30 round tournaments. My worst rounds were 5 losses on round 26 to the Level 19 Sobek, and 6 losses to the round 28 level 20 Citrine Peregrine. Other than 2 losses on round 24, I only had 1 loss on any other round. The Crystal Unicorn was the star of the tournament and the Swan Prince and Super Heron had mixed results.

From experience in different tournaments, I have strong belief that the game is programmed to let you win against stubborn animals when you use gems.

After 5 losses and extreme frustration, I spent 4 gems to skip time and immediately took down Obsidian Cyclops with epic Unicorn who already lost 2 times against Cyclops in this round.

I remember tournaments where I would be trying for a whole day, every hour, on a single opponent :(

As I said earlier in this thread, it has been a long time since I've bothered to play a tournament (maybe 6months). So far this one hasn't been too frustrating for me, but I probably won't do another one for a while.

I haven't even bothered with the battlegrounds for months (I'm still halfway towards getting the blizzard).

Oh no! That used to happen to me all the time - I wrote to 'support' and they gave me a tip. Do something after the battle that connects you to the server - feed an animal, plant fruit, visit a neighbour etc. This forces the server to save your win.

But isn't it funny how the server manages to steal your win, but it takes an hour for you to be able to battle again ....

I'm glad to report that Ember just successfully eliminated the Lemurcury (round 25) to which it also was "doubly weak"!
Today has been a day with heavy losses (which was to be expected, of course); 2 losses against the Werewolf, 5 against the Obsidian Cyclops, 3 against the Vinotaur and then 4 against the Lemurcury.

Next up is Egypt; at least Ember will be neutral to that, as opposed to weak. :P

5 More rounds to go! I really hope Ember will make it without requiring gems to double battle. :P

Timbear!!! The bear is felled! This was a fun, no stress tournament for me and I'm very happy to have finished it a day early. Excellent! Very happy I skipped Wondercat and raised my fighters instead.

I had a clear run of victories on first attempt through rounds 27-30. That is a first for me and very welcome! My final tally is 30 wins and 22 losses. The full results are on page one.

The funniest thing is that Confetti Yeti was my toughest opponent in this whole tournament. :D

DID IT!!! I just looked Ember sternly in the eyes and said: "Take him down in a single critical hit!" ...and he did! So, exit Citrine Peregrin! With the ultra rares out of the way, I hope the door to victory is open! Two more animals to go, both level 20, with the very last one having the earth element in it. I'm not taking those rounds for granted. Let's hope I can beat both of those opponents too, all without double battling!

Ember is certainly a "winner". Now, let's make this a self-fulfilling prophecy: if Ember wins the tournament without spending a single gem, I shall reward the forest with a Prize Pony as a permanent reminder of that epic feat! @Sandybellee: major congrats on finishing it! I'm *SO* glad to see that raising your A-Team of fighters has paid off! It was a bold move to skip the Wondercat for it, but at least from now on in EVERY tournament (and that includes flash tournaments) you'll reap the benefits from it! :)

Soooo, Ember really did it!
The end results: 44 losses vs. 30 wins!
Amount of gems spent: 0 !!! :)

Normally I win a 30-round tournament with a far better ratio of course, but this tournament was not easy on the Gold Lion: lots of earth-something opponents, including a level 18 Obsidian Cyclops and then there was also the level 20 Citrine Peregrin to which the Gold Lion is neutral.

I'm very happy with this and to celebrate it I shall see to it that my forest gets its "Golden Prize Pony". Timewise I could even hatch the Timberbear and collect the gem award but that would mean blocking my nest for a long time, so I don't want to do that.

Now then, down below follows the last chapter of this epic story:

Around 00:35 CET.... Ember is all psyched up for a rematch after losing on its first attempt at the Timbear. The pressure is ON as it's the last attempt before going into the night and Ember wants to finish the tournament early and not have to make another appearance in the arena tomorrow:

O.k. as we're both in Europe and it was quite late last night, I couldn't do too much of an in-depth analysis then, but knowing that I tend to sleep little, I knew I would be likely to get around to it in the morning and that you'd probably not need the analysis overnight already. ;)

Alright, I did some homework and I think I quickly discovered two flaws in your approach; 1 is definitely curable, the other maybe not as it depends on what your daily agenda looks like. Here goes:

Firstly, as for the animals you have, and picking some top class fighters from it to become your mainstay fighting force. I'm looking at your forest right now, and I see several distinct kinds of ultra rares that should definitely become a part of it. Let's start by naming a few candidate animals that I would focus on first, for leveling up all the way to epic level (several of those already are epics in your forest):
-Obsidian Cyclops
-Crystal Unicorn
-Swan Prince
-Wild Wondercat
-Glacial Griffin
-Ancient Sloth
-Anubis
-Treent
-Vinotaur
-Magmacore
-Aurora Pegasus
-Hareon
-Tesslama
-Snapdragon

Now, you say, that's a long list, right? Well, don't worry, the above are just the candidates, you by no means need to use ALL of them. :)
Animal-wise you already have a class A fighter force element wise, which I think is the most important aspect of the fights. The general guidelines are that you can score a critical hit with any animal against any opponent, but that your chances are best with (in what I think to be the right order):
-As good of an elemental match against the opponent's elements.
-As high a level as possible (epic really IS best!!). Try raising your fighters to levels 12+.
-As high a rarity as possible.

Out of the above candidates, focus first on your ultra rares. None of those are epic. Start with raising the following ones (in order):
-Obsidian Cyclops
-Swan Prince
-Wild Wondercat

With the above three, you can VERY successfully battle a LOT of opponents. The Cyclops can take care of just about anything with earth and electric, except for nature-earth and nature-electric. For those, you would let the Swan Prince step in.
The Swan Prince is also an excellent "gem-****er" as is your Treent, which in your case is already at epic level (good news!). Interchange between those for battling the various gem hybrids to which the one or the other may be stronger, and against gem-fire and gem-electric you can use the Cyclops too.
And... against nature the Unicorn should also be an excellent choice, but that means raising another ultra rare to epic level. :P
The Wondercat is also helpful here. Particularly against animals of the nature-fire kind. However, the Cyclops and Swan Prince are of greater importance here.

Next up: finding a good Treasure ****er, as Treasure is another tough opponent that can have you stuck on a round for a long time. I don't think I saw Xmas in your forest, so use your epic Sloth for this.

As for the other elements: at times the above may not provide the "best elemental matches", for those purposes it's good to have a few super rares that can cover one another. Your sloth can take care of most animals requiring a nature opponent, but... for battling several opponents with nature (like Emerald, Quartz, nature-earth, etc.) you can better opt for your Vinotaur (or the above ultra rares, where possible).

I don't see most of the battleground animals in your forest; I use my Thorilla a lot, and you could use your Tesslama for that role. Your Magmacore is also a very good choice. Your Cyclops already covers the 'earth' part well, but for the 'fire' part it is handy. Or.... raise your Hareon, which essentially gives you the same fighter as a Gold Lion (i.e. super rare fire-electric).
Also, the Glacial Griffin is a good choice. Try to write the above out and check Chippychan's states well to see which opponents they should cover (and to identify gaps!). Then, restrict the list to some 5 of these animals that together cover most of the opponents, particularly those with the 'base elements'. Fighting the 'special' elements like Egypt, Spring, etc. is of lesser importance, as each tournament will tend to see only few opponents of those kinds.

The last thing in this respect to do is to pick your fights well: try to use "doubly strong" animals as much as possible, and try to use high level ultra rares as much as possible out of those, when the elemental matches equal those of the available super rares.

Now.... that's my main advice for which animals to focus on first, as a very first one, I would raise the adult Cyclops to epic level and then the Swan Prince.

If those are still up to date, you'll see your choices for the first 20 rounds have worked out VERY well: 20 wins vs. 4 losses: that's much better than my results tend to be for the first 20 rounds!
But..... there are two major flaws here, and that is where it think it REALLY goes wrong for you in every tournament, in the final 1/3rd of the rounds:
1) Most of your animals are level 10. The choices are good, but those animals would need to be stronger than level 10 to quickly get past the opponents of the last 1/3 of the stages. Try to make those animals epic, or at least level 12 or 13 or so, but epic really IS best. You can raise each of your core fighters one level at a time and then raise another one a level.
2) The real Achilles heel for you though, seems to be the frequency with which you fight. There's only one day left in this tournament and you've only been able to put in 24 fights. That's not going to be enough. All of the above has solutions by raising fighters and picking the right ones at the right time (though I think your choices are good ones), but the fighting frequency is key here. This is then also the part that may be difficult to solve: if your agenda doesn't allow you to put it a fight pretty much each waking hour of the day (e.g. due to work obligations etc.), then it's difficult to put in enough fights to complete the tournament. Especially flash tournaments will then become impossible.

So, to summarise:
-You have plenty of good fighters animal wise.
-Raise the above mentioned recommended fighters to epic level. Start with the Cyclops, then the Swan Prince, then the other ones...
-Try to find a way to put in substantially more fights; try to get the first 15-20 rounds over with in the first 2-3 days, then you have enough time to focus on the tougher last rounds.
-If you're close to the end of the tournament and you only need to win a few more rounds, you can consider "double-battling", meaning that half an hour after each fight you speed to another attempt for 2 gems. That allows you to put in twice as many fights in the same time for little cost...

the 12th was the charmed i used Station Dalmation and the Police Badge took him down

Been stuck there all day too. Super Heron and Patriotter taking turns to get hit. I don't have gems or service animals.

I do not have the cyclops so it will be on my agenda to get one.
I have already started to get all elements covered
For e.g. I did not have a earth fire super rare, but now have got a magmacore.and am raising it to epic lvl.
Also on my list is to expand to the Treent. I have seen in many posts that people are using it and winning battles.

-As good of an elemental match against the opponent's elements.
-As high a level as possible (epic really IS best!!). Try raising your fighters to levels 12+.
-As high a rarity as possible.

Out of the above candidates, focus first on your ultra rares. None of those are epic. Start with raising the following ones (in order):
-Obsidian Cyclops
-Swan Prince
-Wild Wondercat

With the above three, you can VERY successfully battle a LOT of opponents. The Cyclops can take care of just about anything with earth and electric, except for nature-earth and nature-electric. For those, you would let the Swan Prince step in.
The Swan Prince is also an excellent "gem-****er" as is your Treent, which in your case is already at epic level (good news!). Interchange between those for battling the various gem hybrids to which the one or the other may be stronger, and against gem-fire and gem-electric you can use the Cyclops too.
And... against nature the Unicorn should also be an excellent choice, but that means raising another ultra rare to epic level. :P
The Wondercat is also helpful here. Particularly against animals of the nature-fire kind. However, the Cyclops and Swan Prince are of greater importance here.

Next up: finding a good Treasure ****er, as Treasure is another tough opponent that can have you stuck on a round for a long time. I don't think I saw Xmas in your forest, so use your epic Sloth for this.

As for the other elements: at times the above may not provide the "best elemental matches", for those purposes it's good to have a few super rares that can cover one another. Your sloth can take care of most animals requiring a nature opponent, but... for battling several opponents with nature (like Emerald, Quartz, nature-earth, etc.) you can better opt for your Vinotaur (or the above ultra rares, where possible).

I don't see most of the battleground animals in your forest; I use my Thorilla a lot, and you could use your Tesslama for that role. Your Magmacore is also a very good choice. Your Cyclops already covers the 'earth' part well, but for the 'fire' part it is handy. Or.... raise your Hareon, which essentially gives you the same fighter as a Gold Lion (i.e. super rare fire-electric).
Also, the Glacial Griffin is a good choice. Try to write the above out and check Chippychan's states well to see which opponents they should cover (and to identify gaps!). Then, restrict the list to some 5 of these animals that together cover most of the opponents, particularly those with the 'base elements'. Fighting the 'special' elements like Egypt, Spring, etc. is of lesser importance, as each tournament will tend to see only few opponents of those kinds.

The last thing in this respect to do is to pick your fights well: try to use "doubly strong" animals as much as possible, and try to use high level ultra rares as much as possible out of those, when the elemental matches equal those of the available super rares.

Now.... that's my main advice for which animals to focus on first, as a very first one, I would raise the adult Cyclops to epic level and then the Swan Prince.

The second part of the advice is of a very different kind: I looked up your results for this tourney and found them here: http://forums.storm8.com/showthread.php?84910-Tournament!-09-22-15-Timbear&p=1178031&viewfull=1#post1178031

If those are still up to date, you'll see your choices for the first 20 rounds have worked out VERY well: 20 wins vs. 4 losses: that's much better than my results tend to be for the first 20 rounds!
But..... there are two major flaws here, and that is where it think it REALLY goes wrong for you in every tournament, in the final 1/3rd of the rounds:
1) Most of your animals are level 10. The choices are good, but those animals would need to be stronger than level 10 to quickly get past the opponents of the last 1/3 of the stages. Try to make those animals epic, or at least level 12 or 13 or so, but epic really IS best. You can raise each of your core fighters one level at a time and then raise another one a level.
2) The real Achilles heel for you though, seems to be the frequency with which you fight. There's only one day left in this tournament and you've only been able to put in 24 fights. That's not going to be enough. All of the above has solutions by raising fighters and picking the right ones at the right time (though I think your choices are good ones), but the fighting frequency is key here. This is then also the part that may be difficult to solve: if your agenda doesn't allow you to put it a fight pretty much each waking hour of the day (e.g. due to work obligations etc.), then it's difficult to put in enough fights to complete the tournament. Especially flash tournaments will then become impossible.

So, to summarise:
-You have plenty of good fighters animal wise.
-Raise the above mentioned recommended fighters to epic level. Start with the Cyclops, then the Swan Prince, then the other ones...
-Try to find a way to put in substantially more fights; try to get the first 15-20 rounds over with in the first 2-3 days, then you have enough time to focus on the tougher last rounds.
-If you're close to the end of the tournament and you only need to win a few more rounds, you can consider "double-battling", meaning that half an hour after each fight you speed to another attempt for 2 gems. That allows you to put in twice as many fights in the same time for little cost...

add Hareon in your A-team (cyclop, swanprince, CrystalUnicorn) : same like gold lion but it is ultra rare (gold lion is super rare)
and ancien sloth is easy to level15 and a good fighter .

vs treasure type , i often use aurora or Twilight troll (you must have this one since you often do battleground) : the chart says it is not good but i often win with both ;) (but hard to level 15)

btw switch your rock rhino with Magmacore in your habitat : Magmacore earns more coins than rhino so better put Magmacore in habitat that store more coins ;)

Got my Timbear! ^_^ Had a much better run that my last couple tournements where I didn't finish. Only Mardi Claw held me up for very long, and even then for only 5 or 6 rounds. Thinking of adding Punk Skunk to my team soon though, since my only epic nature is Earth/Nature and that isn't the best for everything. (Twilight Troll would work too, but I think the skunk is cuter!)

Unfortunately no straight answer for battling sobek, I'd pick whichever animal you may see as your strongest and give it 2-3 battles, then go down the line. Hope you win soon.

As for the former: I don't actively set a timer on it (though that would be very effective), but instead I synchronise the fighting with Charm Cherries growing. I have push notifications enabled, of the kind that require a confirmation (so they don't slip past my attention when I'm not on the phone when they come in), so, when the Charm Cherries can be harvested I do so and directly after that enter the arena. For those who can't afford the cost of the Charm Cherries, the same can be achieved with Mana Bananas (even if grown on only 1 farm).

I think the questions about the Wyburn and Blizard have already largely been answered; as for the Wyburn: too expensive to raise and only a "normal rare" instead of a "super rare". The Blizard should basically be equal to a Glacial Griffin I think. I just think the Blizard is prettier whihch is why I chose to level that one up.

I think you're well on your way to success! You may as well start raising your fighters right now, I think chances are good that we'll get a flash tournament this Friday... Could be a World Event too, as we're in autumn now....

In your forest too I see very good animals. A thing that directly stands out is that they're not epic (at least: not all of them). I'll name the ones that stick out directly to me:

-Blizard
-Sidekicker [or raise Paradise Parrot to epic]
-Ancient Sloth

OMG - ogreve THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I was really just kidding, didn't think you'd actually look;). I will definitely take you're knowledgable advice. I have been trying to raise food regularly & level up my animals. 1st I tried to get them all up to level 7 (following an old post from Zenobia? To help earning potential). I've also been saving for Treent - but these storybook adventures keep delaying me.

I'll keep planting & saving for Treent & try to level up for battles as suggested.

Thanks Nina. I've been planting crops like a crazed person to get my food stores back up after the Swan Prince event...I used to just plant the 20 hour crop once a day. Well that was a whirlwind! My night got away from me and with under two hours left I was still stuck on level 27. This was going to be my 3rd lost tournament in a row... But then mardi claw finally fell to ancient sloth (earth) after trying at least 8 times with other things. I got a freebie as it let me back in immediately to fight citrine peregrine without paying any gems. It took 3 times to take down citrine (won with treasure toucan) and then I only had 16 minutes left. I also took down Psyena with treasure toucan on the first try. And then Timbear fell to Snapdragon (spring) on the first time. I spent 15 gems speeding. My most difficult rounds were Cyclops and Mardi claw.

I echo all of that a thousand times, in particular the Nightmare part!
I think you weren't on the forum yet last summer, but then all of a sudden a "three animal sale" appeared in early July, one of them was the Nightmare. It was the first time that 3 previous animals were rereleased like that and the release was very odd, as it was done on a Thursday and it didn't mention anything about them being breedable. It took us several days to find out that indeed they were breedable. I fully focused on the Nightmare then. The sale for it was only 280 gems. I wanted to make that my (then) only exception to the "no-animal-buying-rule". Then on the Tuesday, I wanted to buy it some 45 minutes before the Tuesday update (as I wanted to do a final sped attempt first, and I would only JUST be able to do that with the gems I had, which were some 290 then), figuring I'd be in time before the sale could possibly end (sales NORMALLY end either WITH the update or 30 minutes before it), but.... this time without any announcement it was pulled 1 hour before the Tuesday update: to put insult to injury, I was ON the game at the time that happened, as I had "sequestered" myself away to make absolutely 100% sure to NOT miss that sale. Then, when the tension got high, 15 minutes removed from buying it, in came the Prancing Pony and it took the Nightmare away. :( :( :(
There! That sums up my personal "Nightmare Nightmare".

This is also why for the Prize Pony and Quartz Quetzalcoatl (the only two animals I *EVER* bought in FFS, when excluding the base animals that can only be bought like the Pyro Pony and Rock Rhino) I made *VERY* sure to buy them WELL before the Tuesday update (and which is also why I gave you the "early warning" to do the same for the Quetzalcoatl ;) ).

Still.... Along with the Crystal Unicorn I deem the Nightmare to be about the most important "missing animal" in my forest. I *REALLY* want to have one or two of those, to go along with my Aurora Pegasi over the Lava Lagoons!
TL if you're reading this (and I know at least Elsa and Kooky will ;) ): PLEASE give us some more decent shots at the Nightmare!

There's actually another animal I also find massively cool and which I would very much like to get too: the Skeletal Dragon!

Now, if only the Spin to Win feature would give me animals I would request them to be featured on that, but as that feature only gives me non-animal outcomes it would probably be cruel to have them on there as I surely then wouldn't get them anyway, no matter how many gems would be thrown at it. It would be very, very, very nice though to be able to breed the Nightmare and Skeletal Dragon for some time again and a sale with the same cost as in July would be great too...

Aww!! I feel for you Ogreve.
When I restarted playing the game there was a value pack of cosmic habitat with Caturn and lemurcury thrown in. I was not on the forum then and wasn't aware that these were trio animals. I just bought them as I found them cool and cute and I so loved the habitat.
It's now that I have joined the forum that I am learning of the value and importance of certain animals... In tournaments, as coin and gem earners etc.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that if they do offer us these animals they are not in the wheel... As my experience there is nothing to brag about.
And I sure am glad that I have bought the 2 I have recently
They add to my elements and give me more breeding options to . Plus the Quartz Quetzalcoatl gives tons of coins to pay for massive food I need now to bring them to epic.
PS .. My pony is now lvl do up to 3 waiting its turn in the flower where the QUARTZY is undergoing a 2nd evolution!!

Ooooooh you JUST missed out on that Nightmare sale then! I recall the Cosmic value pack: that was not long after that Nightmare sale that I was talking about. Up until now I've never bought a value pack. I did see one for the Emerald Dragon, which basically would have been a far better deal than the way we bought our Quartz Quetzalcoatls but at that time I was VERY firm on the "no-animal-buying-rule".

As for what you write above: your forest shares a few similarities with mine: the only two animals that I have ever bought are also the Quartz Quetzalcoatl (which I too now have in the flower, but.... luckily for its THIRD evolution) and the Prize Pony. I'm likely to speed the last 6 hours of the Prize Pony's hatching time in an hour from now (as that's when the den becomes available again), and then the Pony can also be fed right up to the point of evolving it. I may wait a bit longer and save some gems, or not, I'll do some calculations as to what timelines would be involved with that, as after the Pony, an 18 hour Catypuss egg goes to the nest, and I want to have that finish hatching at a convenient time.

AND I took the big plunge & used some saved up gems to buy the Prize Pony. I've had NO luck breeding for the Unicorn so now maybe I'll have a better shot at that, the pony will help me in battle AND I can put an animal in my very empty gem habitat (which I bought during the sale in hopes of getting a Unicorn in there;). So looking forward to having a possible chance at some fall/Christmas animals. I think that will really help my battleground results as well;)

Yes the Ra is an equally good choice and personally I think it's a prettier animal too. But... It's more expensive to level up.

As for the Prize Pony: it's not of the "gem" kind as in "legendary". You need a Treasure Trove as habitat. Did you mean that habitat? If not, start the construction of one ASAP so it's done around the same time as the pony hatches!

From what I can tell you did choose your "elements" carefully and correctly. I see you like use the Strawbeary a lot, in that case indeed that may be a good one to raise to epic level. Same for the Caturn. You can also look a bit at which element(s) is/are strong against more than one opponent. If you then have that element, preferrably in combination with another versatile element, you have a bit less of a 'specialised' fighter that only takes one animal to raise and can yet fight multiple opponents. I think that for that reason e.g. the Sloth and the Vinotaur are particularly attractive, especially as they're cheap to raise too.

So then, what gives? I noticed you had 46 losses vs. 30 wins, whereas my Gold Lion suffered 44 losses vs. 30 wins. This is actually interesting to compare, as on about half (or more?) of the rounds that the Gold Lion fought, it had a "less than ideal" elemental composition against its opponent. The main difference I see then between your animals and mine is the level of the animals. I see you used quite a few animals of levels 12 and lower. That probably accounts for a good deal of your losses, although I must say that there are some losses that I can't directly explain, like the 5 losses of the epic Super Heron vs. the level 17 Vinotaur. The Super Heron SHOULD be double strong against that opponent! Same for several of your epic Swan Princess losses. That animal should also have more easily made its way past opponents. Odd.
Still, I think the above demonstrates the effects of having your animals at high levels well. My Gold Lion was level 15, but despite it being at elemental disadvantages on a lot of rounds, the end result was still somewhat better than yours was using the proper elemental combinations, but at (often) lower levels as trade-off.
It seems then that when you've raised these animals some more (preferably all the way to epic level), that your amount of losses might be cut in half.

Good luck on next tournament: I expect a flash tournament to start this Friday. With the new Prize Pony in your forest I can imagine that you give that one priority over others in therms of raising it. Apart from that, it's good to start working on leveling up your animals asap. Try to pick the "quick wins" (if any) first; meaning those that don't take humongous amounts of food and evolution times and that can fill some gaps in your line up.
Also.... DO make sure to add that Prize Pony to the line-up: let it do some work for you to compensate for the substantial gem cost. ;)
A treasure animal is a REALLY good overall fighter; it's a particularly good Gem ****er too, so raising one asap to a high level is a good investment in your fighter force.
And... even though the Pony keeps your flower occupied for a long time, you can already raise selected animals to the point where they can evolve. That way, even without the evolution, you will already have raised them several levels and then you only need to take care of the evolutions later (at ease) to give them that final notch to "epicness". :P

No timber for me. Could not best round 28 and didn't want to spend gems for the ultimate hit. Very frustrating tourney for me. It was almost as if there was absolutely no way to win without spending gems - as if I were blocked in some way.

Thanks ogreve. I did just hatch & immediately put my prize pony into the flower.
I've been planting charm cherries & nexus nuts. I did spend more food during the last tournament to level up my Strawberry & Caturn as they seemed to be doing very well for me this last tournament. I do have the ancient sloth & super heron at epic. Working on getting the others there. I don't have a Vinotar. And still really want to expand to Treent, but with all this $ going out for food, I'm not keeping pace with that. And at some point I'm thinking I'll need to stockpile food back up for the next storybook. Always so much to do;)

Wifi issues prevented me from finishing this tournament. I only had 2 rounds left :-( This was the first tournament I wasn't able to complete. Oh well, maybe they'll offer the Timbear is a Spin To Win in the future.
