as in most real life stores in the US that weekend, there will be a sale. usually it's the only time you see 40% off on gems, plus they put out a bunch of decor that's not usually available, and some discounts on things that are regularly available. see this thread for what was on sale the past couple of years to get an idea (most of it was stuff that wasn't in the design menu at the time, or was only available in boxes):

last year's sale was actually kind of pathetic. there was much complaining here on the forums, which i like to think contributed to what a great sale there was at christmas time.
