Again in round 25 I found that my epic Treent can sometimes really struggle on several rounds, despite getting strong attacks. Round 25 is the latest example: 4 attempts and not a single critical hit! Very underwhelming. I let my trusty top warrior, the Gold Lion, step in and whadoyaknow: it instantly scored a critical (and fatal) hit on the very first strike!
It looks like I'll ammend my fighter selector for dark-electric too and shall switch it to the Gold Lion.

And, the same has happened before: As round 17 saw three epic Treent losses against the Nightmare, it was time for a "Plan B": my epic Blizard. It had absolutely no trouble in winning the round.
Against the Nightmare it scored a critical on the 3rd hit (the first two, water and earth respectively were both strong).
I tried it again in round 19 and that round was also won with a strong hit using water, followed by a critical using earth.
I think from now on for dark-fire I'll stick with the Blizard and shall change my fighter selector sheet accordingly.

Note: The choice for the Lullabison in round 12 was to test if Music was strong against Music. I got three neutral hits when attacking with the Music element, so it's not strong to it....
So, now that we know that no element is strong to it, I called in my stellar performer, the epic Gold Lion. That Apex predator had absolutely no issues in making minced meat of the Melodeer: I directly got two criticals (one with electric, the other with fire). Sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't simply select the Gold Lion for ALL rounds. ;)
Round #14 also saw an experimental opponent to test its strengths against Cosmic. I chose Shamrock as an element. It's neutral against Cosmic, but the second hit I got was critical so I passed the round anyway.

Final update:
Alright! Several hours ago I won the Patriotter and at that time in the nest and the breeding den were two firefoxes. When the first one cleared the nest, the other one was moved to it. I again chose dark-fire for breeding (hoping to get a Nightmare) and got a 14 hour timer, which is not a bad fail, as it's the Hot Dog, that I didn't have already! I decided to speed the Firefox that had just been moved to the nest and put the Patriotter in it. Possibly I'll speed the last 6 hours of the hatching time too, so I can directly do another dark-fire breeding once the Hot Dog's breeding is done.
At this moment I have accumulated 77,285 food for the Patriotter, and I've just planted Nexus Nuts on all farms, so tomorrow I'll wake up to another 4,800 food added to that. I did just put my level 9 Gold Lion in the evolution flower, but after it clears the Patriotter should be really soon at epic level. If indeed the evolution time is 4 hours, I expect to have it in epic form somewhere early on Sunday. :)

I've gotten critical hits when I know my animal's attack is neutral, so I don't think critical hits tell you for sure if an element is strong against another.

Now it is 6 days, well not 6 full days, but better than 5 days !

I was feeling angry : it is already hard to make it in 6 days (with hatching, you need to finish in 5 days)
So 5 days is completly impossible !

Music is strong against Electric, weak against?
Ice Cream is strong against Earth, weak against?
I don't know any of Spaces strengths or weaknesses.

I tested the Icecream element out on the battleground of our iPad. Sadly, I don't have any of the Music animals there.
Ice Cream is strong against Earth, weak against Fire.
Water, Dark, Nature appear to be neutral and I haven't yet been able to test electric against music.

As for space, it is weak against Earth. Therefore, in my fighter selector I have the following entries:
Space: Earth with anything.
Space-Earth: Earth-Nature.
Space-Water: Earth-Electric.

With that information we should be able to triangulate the strengths.

So, I picked Earth as strong against Fire, and tried Thorilla L15 and Magmacore L13. Earth was strong, but no Critical hits.

Then I decided to try Water as strong against Fire, with Glacial Griffiin L11. Water was strong the first time, but no Critical hit, then I tried again and got a Critical on the third hit.

Doesn't really say anything about what is strong against Music, but I hope it helps :)

Music seems to be weak against water. I got a critical hit and a strong attack against Melodeer with Glacial Griffin water attack. I'm updating my progress in my post on page 2. Hope this helps!

I should note that these rules are for PURE elements. It seems that when I tried WATER against music/earth (lullabison) is was NUETRAL. I haven't gotten to the round with pure music to try for myself, but this is based on what others have contributed. :)

as i am not interested in the patriotter, i am going to play with the newer animals, luck, ice cream, spiring, music...
what else... and am going to tell if they are strong or neutral.....

so lets go.... well I just started by level 4 terrorier (did not think about that for the first three opponents....)
4) terrorier lvl 2 : lost with peony poney level 15 neutral attack won with unfortunately 1 critical hit with chocolab level 10

Hmmm, if reaction #74 is correct, the music element would be weak to water. I just lost against the Great Danebow so I'm out of business for an attempt at the Lullabison for at least just under 2 hours.... In that case the conclusion drawn in reaction #74 seems to be in error, as the Lullabison's earth element should not be weak to water which could have explained a neutral outcome.
To be on the safe side I shall stick with my original selection of the Ancient Sloth against the Lullabison then, and at any rate the Blizard (water-earth is "double strong" against fire) against the Tubacan. I hope someone finds a good opponent for the Melodeer before my turn comes round, otherwise I'll have to try some things...

BTW: My epic Thorilla just bested the Great Danebow so in little under than 1 hour from now I'll start off my run against the three music animals. Is there any element you'd like me to try (other than gem, treasure, valentine and christmas, as I don't have those)?

Just won against Plutopus. Used one of my favourites, Storm Sphinx lvl 15 critical, strong, critical.

Did you use Electric? I've used Rock Rhino, got 2 neutrals and then a critical hit.

So against space-earth, use only nature, and against space-water, use only electric.

Unfortunately a 'Critical' is not the same as a 'Strong' attack.

You always have a chance at a lucky 'Critical' hit even if you use an element that is 'Weak' or 'Neutral' against an element.

The reason we look for elements that register a STRONG attack is because it is generally believed it has a higher chance at landing the required 'Critical' to win a battle. :)

From my experience, dark was strong to music. I defeated Melodeer with two critical hits from dark.

Critical hit doesn't mean the element is strong against the other, you were lucky enough to get to critics and win.

I just won against the Melodeer using a level 4 Koala Cadabra(lightning, dark). 2 hits of lightning N then C. I have seen other posts of people who have won using Trent(wood i think) or Zapra lightning. I had neither of these so had to find something else. Hope this post helps others. Good Luck to everyone.

The Melodeer was no match for my top performer, the epic Gold Lion. The Gold Lion had no trouble in making minced meat of the Melodeer by scoring two successive critical hits, the first with electric, the second with fire.
Deer-steak is on the menu today for my beloved Apex predator. ;)

Edit - won with Zapra. Dark was neutral and got critical with electric. Hope this helps clear things up.

I'm quite sure I obtained that information from the "Making sense of the battleground" thread. Anyway, I'm 25 minutes away from my first shot at the Caturn. For the greater good I shall chip in an attempt with my epic Treent (i.e. Living Wood), so as to cover that one.
So, if the others can try something else from the list, that would be great!
If the Treent fails to do his work, I'll use the Caturn for the second attempt. Mine is only at level 10 though. :O

Regarding the strength of the Spring element:


I don't think it's strong to Nature... (See post by Ellerslie6)
I thought it was strong to Electric?

On the iPad I'm still in the Twilight Troll battlegrounds. I just tried the Peony Pony in 2 rounds and consistently got strong hits against water-nature and got neutral against earth-fire. I can try it some more but I'm sure that at least in that battleground it's strong to nature (I already verified this previously...).

AFAIK there has not yet been found an element that is strong against Spring, but at least we know that you would not want to use anything with Nature in it.

Good that you intercepted that attempt just in time!
I quickly switched over to the least common one of the remaining options that I have: Shamrock (a level 10 Harpy). I got Neutral - Critical - Neutral.
So.... Shamrock is out too and I passed the round with it, so I can test it no further.
I hope someone else can fill the missing gaps by testing the remaining animals...

Again: Shamrock is NEUTRAL to Cosmic.

I was able to complete a few rounds of the tournament but now I can't. I've still got the tournament as an active quest, but the arena is empty, and when I try to select it, I get a message saying "There aren't any active Tournaments right now. Check back soon for another challenge!"

I'm kinda relieved that I'm not the only one who had its tournament disappear; just some 30 minutes ago I wanted to put in the last match of the day (level 15) and it went a few times on and off. I tried visiting neighbours: no difference. Tried disabling the wifi: no difference. Tried closing the app completely a few times and turning off and on the iPhone; no difference.
Then, when again loading it, the tournament was back but then there was a 42 minutes counter on it, so the round I was in has been docked, I fear. Tomorrow morning I'll find out on which round it put me.
It's good to hear though that the error was on TL's side; for a moment I feared some glitch had occurred that had flagged the game on my iPhone as having been completed, WITHOUT having the prize as a result....:O
It's even better to hear that apparently the progress has been saved properly. It's 1:15 a.m. now and the business day starts at 7:00 a.m. so I can't stay awake longer. I sure hope I've not been set back in progress...

There has been an issue with the game and the tournament disappearing. It at first affected all players but now some have been reset to round 1, and some are able to continue where they left off. They're looking into it, so hopefully when they fix it you'll be back to where you left off and won't have to start all over again.

Presumably those of us whose games were reset to round one will also be both refunded the gold used to speed round just before glitch occurred, PLUS either bumped forward however many rounds it takes TL hours to fix or CREDITED with sufficient gold to let us catch up this downtime.
It should NOT be necessary for us all to email individually!
