There's a thing on the side for 5.00 you can get rainbows, hedges and 100 bolts of energy. How large are the rainbows? Anyone know

The Rainbows are 1x2 and somewhat translucent. They act like walls (Decoration only)
The Rainbow Hedge - available in market for 1 gem and worth 1 Royal Point Each.

The Energy is added to you current energy and the energy counter will not continue until you are below your max energy level

I prefer to have the energy crates that you can store, then use whenever you want.

I agree. I would rather have crates and use as needed. I'm close to max on collectable resources and crops so the apology (I'm guessing it's the winter sale fiasco apology, just my opinion) doesn't really do much for me. Not interested in more deco items. Don't have room for too much as it is :/

A hunch: the rainbows are going to be part of the new set of prizes from the baron's tent.
along with some of the other value pack only deco we've seen.

Assuming that's true, I'm going to get the pack cause to get 3 prizes in the tent can take a LOT of gems!
too bad about the hedge: I've got lots of those from the last year sale :(

The Rainbow (in the upper right corner) and a thin wooden fence (center right side of the image) can be seen in a September 2012 CS promo image, first visible in Apple's App Store, prior to being published on the abandoned Storm8 blog (link is below). Because of this image, they appear to be the only CS items which were never released that we know of. (A "Pink" Rainbow has been available on Valentine's Day twice.) As of this update, the Rainbow now officially exists in CS, albeit only briefly.

Storm8 is commemorating a U.S. political event with the in-game availability of the Rainbow, though to mention it in their own forum violates their own guidelines.
