At leats TL is using the non coloring types, releasing 2 egyptian dragons (Pharaoh and Scarab) without the egyptian element is horrible...

But this wave of stone is already too much.. Tree stone dragons in a row it's not funny.

That brings me to 139 from 63 bombs, running a bit lower at 2.21 fragments per bomb due to a bad run early on. Friends don't let friends mine distracted!

Since they started with the mining dragons, the least amount of time has been 28 days between dragons (only happened 6 times), which would make it July 21st for this one. The other 10 times you got an additional 3-4 days. That said, there can always be a first time...

It's up to you, and also depends on your island, if you have tons of space then a second copy is fine, but if you're like me with tons of dragons that you're running out of space, one is more than enough :D

Total so far: 196 fragments from 88 bombs

My latest batch of 25 bombs yielded 57 fragments, exactly hitting the expected value of 2.3 fragments per bomb.

Total of 196 from 88 bombs is up a couple ticks to 2.23 fragments per bomb, low on account of sloppy mining early in this round.

My second basilisk is crafting now, and when it's done in the morning I'll have 3-4 new bombs that will easily provide the opportunity to get the Malachite crafting!

By easily I mean only about a 1/3,000,000 chance of needing more bombs. My 15 hour evolution has 75% chance of giving 4 bombs, in which case efficient mining has 100% chance of getting me the fragments I need. In the 25% chance event I only get 3 bombs, I would have to get 3 mines in a row that provide the chance to get only 1 fragment with efficient mining. Latest simulations using my mining calculator put the odds of such a mine at 1.1%.

or approximately 1/3,000,000

I haven't had any particularly poor outputs that can be attributed to user error, although most of this has been without the help of my calculator so it may or may not be carried out with the efficiency that achieves an average of 2.3 fragments per bomb. That said, I observe a variance of .27 in my simulations of fragments per bomb, which would produce a standard error for a sample of 26 of 0.10 and an approximate 95% confidence interval of 2.09-2.51 fragments per bomb. So I'm riding a bit low but not significantly so!

That's from using 84 bombs. Previous mining dragons were between 2.139 and 2.156. It's not much difference but they're all enough to get a second dragon with enough bombs saved up before release

I've never refilled actually and don't know exactly how that works. I think gold to speed evolution is probably the most efficient way to buy extra time in the mines!

If you haven't already, check out the Mining Guide (http://forums.storm8.com/showthread.php?72394-Dragon-Story-Mining-Guide). It's a great guide to start with. It's not optimal - there are a few suggestions that are not as efficient a strategy as could be had and it's of limited use after finding the first fragment - but it can give a good set of starting approaches that can likely push you up to an average of 2 fragments per mine. I also posted comments there as I developed the first drafts of my algorithm.

If you are familiar with R, I would be happy to send my R code in which I have the latest and greatest version of my calculator coded. It's not pretty - all text console style computer interface and a coordinate map of the mine - but its what I'm presently using. I've written a javascript version that can run in a browser (at present even less pretty still), but it's not currently up to date with the latest algorithm improvements. At some point I'll post it somewhere.

The gist of my approach is to choose based on the following three successive criteria. The spot needs to inform on the most number of potential locations available; of those it needs to have the greatest variance in distances from fragment that the response can indicate (0, 1, 2, and 3 if "Too Far" can only be 3); of those, I choose one closest to the edge as a crude means of minimizing fragmentation of the search space.

That variance computation is something a calculator is good at that human brains are less so, but the algorithm can be approximated (in my experience getting me around 2-2.2 fragments per bomb instead of 2.3) with a handful of moves that work in many situations. This approach breaks down as the search space gets broken up by a heavily bombed mine, so there is reduced odds of 3 or more fragments. But 2+ is achievable.

I'd be glad to discuss such moves further (perhaps in its own thread?) if anyone is interested in improving upon the Mining Guide linked above. I've been very pleased to find some moves I was led to by the algorithm that improve on those I worked out by hand!

However many dragons are available for evolving, 131 fragments will be a tough haul without an allotment of gold given the expected length of a mining campaign.

Given a maximum expected yield (sans gold) of 2.3 fragments per bomb, 131 fragments would require an estimated 57 bombs to collect. Those 57 bombs would require 228 hours of evolution to acquire, requiring a minimum of 9.5 days. We are presently 23 days into the mining campaign. From what I understand, these generally last from 28 to 31 days. Without factoring in the hour of day, which is variable by user, that suggests that you would need 32.5 days total to complete the Malachite dragon. That appears to be about 1.5 days more than is expected to be available.

With a couple dozen gold to accelerate evolution, and available dragons to evolve, it can be done. Then if those 14 evolution sum to 228 hours, then you would be able to get the Malachite. I haven't done the analysis, but I expect that the average of 16+ hour required per evolution is greater than you have available. Maybe hatch some Water Dragons with some silver to evolve as needed?

Those 57 bombs would require 228 hours of evolution to acquire, requiring a minimum of 9.5 days. We are presently 23 days into the mining campaign. From what I understand, these generally last from 28 to 31 days. Without factoring in the hour of day, which is variable by user, that suggests that you would need 32.5 days total to complete the Malachite dragon. That appears to be about 1.5 days more than is expected to be available.

With a couple dozen gold to accelerate evolution, and available dragons to evolve, it can be done. Then if those 14 evolution sum to 228 hours, then you would be able to get the Malachite. I haven't done the analysis, but I expect that the average of 16+ hour required per evolution is greater than you have available. Maybe hatch some Water Dragons with some silver to evolve as needed?

Oh I meant my existing dragons that are mostly reaching Lv10, which doesn't allow me to get more bombs unless I breed a second copy of an existing dragon or use some fails that I breed and then trade it for gems.

Anyways, I won't be mining for dragons anymore until more land is given, as I've filled every spot on my island.

I hate mining. I'm like halfway through this one. I can't play all day every day so my time is limited. I never let myself get maxed on bombs so they get wasted. I wish the limit was higher than 25.

I love dragons but mining is so boring... I have a hard time getting enough bombs to finish these in time. How do people get 2 dragons? Surely they are using gold to speed up evolutions but where do you get all that food.

If the mining operation is 28 days that means one can get 168 bombs in that time. At a theoretical yield of 2.3 fragments per bomb, only 386 fragments are likely. Then an expected 7 bombs would be needed (or 6 with the barest of luck to average a bit above the expected) would require 28 gold (or 24 with luck) to accelerate evolutions and get those bombs. If starting the campaign with a cache of 25 bombs, then one need only an average yield of 2.073 fragments per bomb to get two dragons so this is quite achievable.

If it is a 31 day mining campaign, one can get 187 bombs and and an achievable yield of 2.14 fragments per bomb will get you two dragons.

So, if desiring 2 dragons on the campaign starting Tuesday, start saving your bombs now! :)

I think TL should either:

1. Re-introduce previous mining dragons so we can use those parts again

2. Allow us to have an option to delete some older useless parts

Looks like it would be a large white, large green, and a mystery box. Doesn't move me closer to any crafted dragons I want so I think I'll sit on my hundred or so malachite chunks and not spend the gold it would take to get that second dragon. The 25 bombs I'll have stored up virtually guarantee two of whatever comes next!

Agreed, I also wouldn't get a 2nd one just to trade it as I don't need anymore large white or green gems. The mystery box always end up as either scrolls or dust to me, so I never liked those

This is with the addition of 14 fragments with 6 bombs, on the healthy side of the expected rate at 2.33 fragments per bomb.

This brought my total rate to 2.27 fragments per bomb, slightly under but approximately at the expected rate.

No use letting bombs go to waste. An additional 7 fragment with 3 bombs, at 2.33 fragments per bomb, which maintains the total rate at 2.27 fragment per bomb at the half way point.

I know it wasn't immediate, last time there was a little bit of time between one mining dragon event ending and the next beginning. I am asking for a specific reason. I have 25 bombs in storage and I have a crusader ready to come out of evolving so I can put my amphora dragon in to evolve to ready it for the next wild wind chapter. BUT, I don't want to take crusader out yet and lose his bombs worth so I need to use up the ones I have in storage when the next mining event starts. I am trying to time my next chapter starting with my amphora dragon evolving and the amphora adventure quest. I thought last time it was about an hour, maybe someone would be gracious enough to answer.

Typically the new dragon appears about 4 hours after the old one goes away. For me, the mine ends at 1:30 PM (EST) so the new one should appear around 5:30 PM. That being said, TL can be a bit unpredictable so I tend to check at least once per hour.
