Heh, the same thing happened in round 1 as was the case with the Craguar tournament: I accidentally picked a totally wrong opponent. Luckily the Gold Lion was all psyched up for the battle and had no trouble in scoring a clean victory anyway. Look at its track record: I used it in 5 rounds and it has given me 5 direct flawless victories. It's lightning fast and on fire!

The first 8 rounds went clean as a whistle and I was very happily surprised to not have suffered a single loss in them!
The first loss came in round 9: the dreaded Jade Kirin. Still, it took only 3 attempts of my epic Treent to get past it.
As always in 12 round tournaments, rounds 9 - 11 is where the trouble was likely to start.
I was very happy to see the Snapdragon directly having to take in a critical hit from the Gold Lion.
Next up now is the Sapphire Cthulhu, which is another tough cookie to crack. That will be a highly specialised round for the Pluma.

Now, in round 20 I came across a major error in my list: for battling water-nature I had (for some reason) written down that the Blizard would be a good opponent, but it is not, the water element is neutral against it and the earth one is even weak against it! In stead, it should be "electric with anything but earth". In my case, that then comes down to the Gold Lion or the Pluma. On my second attempt I shall try either of those, starting with the Gold Lion.

Update: as mentioned above, I first gave the Gold Lion a go in round 12, after realising the error in selecting the Blizard for that. It was, once again, a great choice! The Gold Lion again directly took it out on its first attempt! Wow, the Gold Lion alone took care of half of the amount of rounds in this tournament, and all rounds were won without a single defeat! Very impressive!

PS: Attached to this post is an updated screen shot and the sheet of my fighter selector matrix. If anyone knows the strengths / weaknesses of the Spring, Cosmic, Music and Icecream elements, I would love to hear them, so they can be included in the list too. Note that this tournament we'll be facing two of them, being the Lemurcury and the Snapdragon!

On one hand, I really like this animal and would be interested in trying to get it by breeding (not level 17 so can't do tournaments, and I still need an Ocean Owl and an Aquatter anyway).

On the other hand, I really don't like how there are overlapping breeding events with Sapybara (I'm pretty sure I'll fail that one) and the Musical Trio (0/3 for me so far), and this would overlap with the Musical Trio as well. So, it's probably best if it's tournament.

It seems that Nature is strong against the Earth and possibly the Space elements. Either way, the best bet I would give for Lemurcury is the strongest Nature you have, with Earth or possibly Water. Ancient Sloth, Arboar and like are excellent choices - Nature attack.

If you have it, the Treent is a particularly good choice for round 8. My epic one sure had no trouble with it.
But... Earth-Fire is indeed also mentioned as a top choice, so your Magmacore should be a good choice. Try leveling it up as much as you can. I find that doing so makes a BIG difference in the amount of critical hits that you get.

Fire is neutral against Spring. That said, the "special" element of Spring seems to follow the same track as other "special" elements in the past. It may not register any type attack as "strong", yet the odds of landing a "Critical" blow are much greater for certain types of attacks. For Spring, this does seem to be Fire attacks. I have had reports of 14 different competitors who got Neutral fire attacks, followed by Critical attacks against Snapdragon.

Jade Kirin is also a good choice against Sapphire Cthulhu.

I had 24 losses against the Kirin last time. Got it with ember bear then and got it just now with Terrorier.

I was able to beat Lemercury (space) and Snapdragon (spring) using my Level 15 Matripony. I don't know if this will be helpful to anyone or not.

I didn't keep track of this tournament because for the previous three I was forced to fight battles that I had already won. I didn't have that issue this time.

I was able to get through this one with fewer losses than the last several tournaments as well.

My Crystal Unicorn beat the Turtle Dove on the third try. Overall record of 12-8 was good for me and the best 12 round tournament I have had since January. See post #9 for battle details.

I am not sure if S8 tried to make it easier by replacing a couple of Ultra-Rares with a couple of special types but it worked for me. Now if they would just cut down on the incubation time for the 12 round prizes so we can reasonably get the gem reward, it would be great. My prize goes into storage for the foreseeable future.

The last two tournaments both were a dooze for me. Either it is a *lot* of coincidence, or my efforts of creating an A-team of epic fighters really, really paid off. I finished the tournament today around 16:30 CET, with some 16 hours to spare. As I still need two of the musical animals, I decided to not hatch the egg straight away and postpone it until at least the limited animal breeding is over and done with. It's now in storage, along with my Pigmy, Dread Panda and the Vanillamb. Soon I want to hatch them all, using some slack time between breeding and hatching and possibly slightly speeding it somewhat here and there.

These are the summarised tournament results for me:

I just made it--sped up my losses to make it on time. (about 30-ish gems used total). Editing to add that my gems were used for speeding--lol. Not on an ultimate attack.

Used: Sloth, Ocean Owl, Nightmare, Reindeer, Hyppogryff and Thunder Mammoth. Sloth did most of the heavy hitting and Nightmare finished up the rest. I only used the others near the end on the Cthulu and the Turtle Dove, which was surprisingly, the most difficult, (along with the Gargolem). Good luck to everyone still fighting!

Nightmare won me on the Cthulu (even though I wasn't going to use a Fire, it had some good crits this time around, so I gave it a shot and was surprised).
Thunder Mammoth won the turtle dove. (again, wasn't going to try it, but after the Hippogryff lost, I gave it a shot and it critted on the first hit)

All of my fighters are level 15. :)

I spent about 30 gems just to speed up the time for the last round, and I still didn't complete it. That's quite a lot to spend on one thing for me because I don't buy gems, and I probably never will. I was tempted to give in and use an ultimate attack since it was the last round, but I'm glad I didn't. Same here. Thought it was reasonable until snapdragon. I don't play these tournaments to win anymore. All I wanted on this one were the sprinkles. The time allotted is always too short, if you have to eat, sleep, work. At least for me.
I think these tournaments are designed to give you hope you might win in the beginning. Then ... you have the opponent you seemingly cannot beat ... and now the temptation to spend gems is high. Pfffft. I don't like being manipulated. (digging heels in) :mad:

Thanks for the congrats, and I'm sorry to hear you didn't make it to the end.

Sure, I'll gladly share my strategy and "stats". After I won the Dread Panda tournament with a lot of effort, speeding a bit at the end, and using one ultimate attack on the Golden Retriever, I was pointed to the thread "Making sense of the battleground". It is an excellent thread and Zandscape cooked up a "statistically underbuilt" theory as to how the scoring system works. As (s)he of course didn't know the exact way TL calculates it, they kept track of fight statistics, using several variables as parameters, being:
-The level of your animal vs. that of the opponent.
-The rarity of your animal vs. that of the opponent.
-The elemental match of your animal vs. that of the opponent.
In short: if your animal is as rare as possible, is raised to as high a level as possible and has the best elemental match (shown during fights as the green text "strong attack"), your chances on getting a critical hit are maximised as much as you can influence it. The rest is luck.
There are many more aspects of the scoring etc. that are explained there, but the above pretty much summarises it.

Then, I used that information to work on preparing myself as much as possible before the next tournament, which happened to be the Craguar one. What I did was to make an Excel sheet of all possible elemental combinations that are in actual use, look at Zenobia's suggestions for good opponents for them, select as FEW as possible of my super rares that generate most revenue, to cover ALL of the matrix' cells and work on leveling them up to epic level. That latter part was tedious work and took VERY extensive harvesting for just about the entire waking time of 2 entire weeks or so. Being a programmer (a.o. things), when it was not too obtrusive, I just hooked up the iPhone to a power supply whenever I could, and constantly planted the 3 minute Power Pears and fed them to the selected super rares, raising each one of them after one another. That way I could combine it with the time I spend on the computer for work anyway, and simply harvest-plant 120 apples pretty much every three minutes. In the off hours I have a family too, so then the frequency was lower, but I still did the same as much as possible (my wife thought me a nutter for it, but well...;)). Most people can't do this so intensely, so then the raising process goes slower, unless you're loaded with money in the game, in which case you can plant the very expensive Charm Cherries every hour (a thing I nowadays tend to do a few times per day).

Anyway, at the bottom of this post you can find the exact sheet I use.
My A-team consists of 5 "core fighters" and 2 occasional opponents, all of them are now at epic level. They are:

Core fighters:
-Treent
-Thorilla
-Gold Lion
-Blizard
-Ancient Sloth

Occasional opponents:
-Pluma (used only against gem-water, i.e. the Sapphire Cthulhu)
-Vinotaur (used only against earth-nature)

For me, the past two tournaments went SO much easier then the ones before it. Previously I could easily be stuck for some 15 tries on an ultra rare, whereas in the past two tournaments I even got by those within some 4 attempts or so. Big, BIG difference. Especially as I too live in Europe, I think this strategy really is THE way to prepare to the max. for especially the flash tournaments.

Regarding your level question: I looked it up. When I finally got the Treent (which was right before starting the intense "raising scheme") I was at level 35. When keeping your farms occupied so intensely the level ups come quickly. I've been at level 40 for some 2-3 weeks now.
