Using energy, but not getting anything

I select one of my buildings, my energy drops by one, my character goes over, then the icon pops back up saying the building is ready, but I lost the energy and didn't get anything for it. This doesn't happen all the time, but it's been happening at least twice a day each day this week. It's extremely annoying!

When you come back to your game go visit a neighbor and come back to make sure your game has synced up with the servers before you try collecting anything.

If is also good to close out your game after playing so when you come back it can load up fresh.
