you I'm Yep, another one that I won't be speeding through

1. Fairy Ferret beat by Ruby Razorback 15

9. Emerald Dragon beat by Crystal Unicorn, beat C Unicorn 15, Treent 15, Snapdragon 10

10. Crystal Unicorn beat by Treent 15, then after it lost the level repeated. Then it beat Treent. Then it beat Golden Retriever 15. Then it beat Zapra 15. Finally it was beaten by Treent 15 AGAIN! I had a similar issue in the last tourney.

Not nice Storm8. Once a level is won, it needs to stay won!

11. Golden Retriever beat by Toy Poodle 15 beat T Poodle 15 x4, Santa C 15, x2. and Vinotaur 15 for a total of 8 losses on this one level.
12. Dread Panda beat by Steamtrunk 15, beat Blizard 15

I definitely dreaded this Panda. This was the least-fun tourney I have ever played. It might be my last one.

I am FINALLY done!

Emerald dragon is always a tough opponent for me! Luckily, I recently bred Jade Kirin (my first gem hybrid!) My Jade just knocked out the Emerald on its 1st try! Yeah!!

Good luck to anyone having trouble with this dragon-beast!

So.... Does "Spring" mean Dandylion, Snapdragon, Tulip Tapir etc. are strong against Emerald Dragon?

Spring is Strong against Nature and Neutral to Gem, so you will get a Strong Attack against the Emerald Dragon.

Spring is Strong against Nature and Neutral to Gem, so you will get a Strong Attack against the Emerald Dragon.

well, I had only neutral hits from spring to emerald dragon...... are you sure spring is supposed to be strong agains nature ?

ninasidstorm8
05-30-15, 09:08 AM
I used Spring against the Emerald Dragon in the Charger battleground and all my hits were Strong Attacks. If I remember correctly, someone reported using Spring against the Emerald Dragon in the Pluma tournament and received Strong Attacks as well. I have also used it against Earth/Nature and Nature/Fire in this tournament and got Strong Attacks. Therefore, I believe that Spring is still Strong against Nature. If what you are saying is true, then Spring would have to be Weak against Gem.

That would not be a good change.

I've had too many defeats for a flash tournament. There's still plenty of time but the defeats are continuous and I've still got to ultras to get past. I haven't won a tournament since Growvine!

What is more likely is that after the Last Tournament, S8 changed the Spring attack against Gem to a Weak Attack. That would make it Neutral to Gem/Nature.

So.... Spring is not strong to anything. Hmmmmm.... It seems that the "special" seasonal creatures are not worth anything! They cannot battle. They produce so little coins, even at very high level, that they are not worth the food it takes to feed them. It is very sad. I fed mine up in hopes of using them in tournaments. This tournament demonstrated that that was a pipe dream.

I thought I was doing quite well, I only had 1 loss up to round 8, then came the ultra rares. 1 loss to the Emerald dragon (yeah I know not that bad, though in other tourneys I get it down in one go) 4 losses (im sure there were more as I battled during the night half asleep) to the Crystal Unicorn and now 2 losses so far to the Golden Retriever. I was realy trying hard not to have a loss but its extremely hard. I've used my most rarest highest usually Epic animals for each round and yet the losses stack up. Id really like to go through a tourney without a loss but I think its impossible. Thats my challenge every tournament but I usually come undone this time on the ultra rares but in past tournaments I've come undone or got stuck on rares or super rares. Has anyone ever won a tournament without a single loss or is this just unrealistically impossible.

I agree...its the same with the space creatures...I dont know why S8 releases these animals if they are just going to be useless in battles. I was really excited when I was able to breed all 3 space creatures thinking I might have a bit of an edge when battling but they just sit in their habitat looking pretty. Useless and why cant we breed them (space and spring elements) with the other elements. The only elements that seem to be strong and effective in battling are the Christmas and valentines day element. I havent tried the spring element as yet as they are still in storage. Space isn't strong to anything :S

I got through. 15 losses for me total and I did some speeding. As far as flash tournaments go this one was relatively easy. I got stuck on one animal, retriever, that took 10 tries. Usually I get stuck 2-3 times. It's rare for me to win a flash tournament and I've been playing a while. No gem creatures but I have two treasure animals. I usually get stuck on one super rare each tournament. I've never completed a tournament with no losses and I've only won a handful of flash tournaments. Sometimes I feel that no matter what you do or play you will not win without spending gems.

I was really hoping to get this guy. I haven't had luck in breeding lately and I don't have a dark/fire super rare.

I'm interested to know the lowest level of player to get through this tournament?

I'm thinking it might be a good idea for S8 to raise the minimum level to enter tourneys.

The 3 times I've tried I've lost a ton of gems, and not got anywhere near the end
And that's with checking all the charts, breeding calcs etc!!

I reckon it causes a lot of players to give up, might be better off raising the entry level (IMHO)

TWELVE losses to the retriever. Finally beat it with Santa Claws.

I ended up speeding multiple times to finish the retriever and then had 2 losses before beating the dread panda with sea lion. I still spent less gold than what 2 speeds and 2 ultimates would have cost so I guess I'm happy....

Woke up this morning and beat the Retriever 1st try with Poodle but then the stupid game crashed and not only did I have to speed to the next round, but my win was gone!!! Then 4 more losses until I used another ultimate just to get it over with... Panda went down 1st try against Sloth with 30 minutes to go.

I would NEVER spend so many gems if they hadn't been for free (for playing other S8 games). NEVER going to buy them just on principal.

I started within minutes of the appearance of the tournament, played almost every waking hour (and then some because up late and had trouble sleeping), and have high-level animals (though no ultra-rares) but still could not complete the tournament (without spending gems--which I wasn't going to do). And this is without any time-zone disadvantages.

I completely agree!! Countries that are outside the local time zone are at a severe disadvantage. We know that S8 can make it so that events can start when the player chooses to begin it (I've seen this now in DS and RS2) and I really wish they would utilize this feature for tournaments, especially for flash ones.

This was as usual for me. Fairly crisp going in the beginning, then getting hung up 1/5 away from goal, when I had adequate dragons to battle with. I have never won a tourney without using ultimate. As I am refusing to yield to this blatant money grab, I have not won a tourney in a long while. During this last one I had to force myself to check in. I used to play numerous times during the day, but now only a couple of times to harvest. The abysmal breeding odds and tournaments are just too much negative reinforcement to make this an even remotely pleasant experience. My overall feeling is: " what's the use". I might hang on to see what July 4 brings, but if this does not get any better I am out, too. I can find better things to waste my time on. ( watching paint dry or grass grow comes to mind)
At least in DS there is some chance at breeding, but I am not at max level yet, so that may change.

Hi guys,

Some thoughts and experiences from another European player (The Netherlands, to be precise); hopefully a bit spirit raising for those who get frustrated. I've been wanting to post this information for a while and I decided to combine it all in one post, which is a long one then, but I hope it helps those who are having difficulties in the tournaments.
Here goes:

My daughter first installed this game on the iPad somewhere in August/September last year and then together we played it a bit. We didn't do much with the game then until around mid February or so. She called in my help with specific parts of it and while on a short vacation abroad she installed it on my iPhone too and we got some good animals that she didn't have on the iPad account. It's been since that time that I too very actively got involved in it. By now, "I" (I write "I" because my daughter has largely lost interest in the game as progress comes really slowly now) have just made it to level 40 a few days ago, which was largely due to me harvesting 6 farms full of Power Pears continuously for the waking hours of several days so as to be able to raise the Treent within little over a week's time from baby level to the epic level, a thing that was finally achieved 45 minutes ago. \O/

Do note that I didn't manage to free the Treent until 8 days ago. I have absolutely NO ultra rare (very, very unfortunately) and for the past 4 tournaments I've only had the basic element "common" animals at epic level (earth, fire, water, nature, dark, lightning), as well as two common hybrids, being the Firefox and the Conduktor. I did not have any "rare" or "super rare" animal at a level higher than 12.

O.k., with that background information in mind, here are some thoughts on the previous 4 tournaments. Bear with me, and perhaps some ideas can be gained from it.

-Growvine: that went pretty well. IIRC we used one ultimate attack, almost certainly on the second last round. We chose animals that were in the "11+ level range".
-Groundhound flash tournament: despite playing it pretty much every waking hour (which is quite many in my case), we got only to round 9. No gems were used. We chose animals that were in the "11+ level range".
-Pluma: That went really well. Again started playing from the moment it became available, we made it pretty quickly through the first 20 or so rounds, then there were several much tougher rounds, some of which went quickly, others horribly. The Treasure Toucan, the Golden Retriever and the Treent have always given me major delays, but this time the Obsidian Cyclops was hell. It took some 20 rounds to get past it. We chose animals that were pretty much all of the time "epic basic elements". One Ultimate Attack was used by accident (when my daughter lay the telephone down upside down), but fortunately it was when battling the Treent. The Pluma was beaten in some 5 attempts or so. That time I even managed to hatch the egg in time to pick up the reward.

Now then for this Dread Panda flash tournament:
By means of the calendar of previous updates that appears on the Wiki I figured there were good chances of a flash tournament starting on Friday. That was around the time I freed the Treent and I then decided to have a full-force crack at continuously harvesting the Power Pears (a thing I'm also doing at this very moment, but now for getting one of my Gold Lions to epic level) for getting that Treent as strong as possible before the start of the tournament. It was somewhere at level 13 or so when the tournament started.
Throughout the tournament, the main focus was on 2 things:
1) Continuing the above described feeding process of the Treent, and:
2) Keeping a tight eye on the tournament times, so I could battle pretty much every hour.

When doing so, I chose as much as possible the Treent (when recommended) and for the other rounds the recommended "base elements" which I have at epic level. I find these animals like the Pyro Pony and the Padafodil etc. can perform quite well against anything, just as long as you get that Critical Hit. Several levels required a Nature attack. Often the Pandaffodil did not score critical hits. The level 12 Vinotaur stepped in and did quite well then. I was expecting the Treent at level 13 and 14 (during part of the tournament) to not need critical hits, but it did. It looks to me as if the critical hits are really the only thing that matters, and I don't know exactly what causes one to trigger. I *think* (but am by no means sure) that they may be triggered more often when having strong attacks, when using epic animals and when battling low-level opponents.
I got by the Crystal Unicorn in 1 attempt, and I got by the Emerald Dragon in some 3-4 attempts. The Golden Retriever was hell, as always, and by that time it was Sunday evening, some 14-15 hours before the end of the tournament, with a night coming up. Here's what I did:
-Up to those 14-15 hours before the tournament's end I battled the Retriever every hour, without using gems.
-After that time, the deadline came dangerously close. I had 49 gems at that time. I battled the Retriever at the normal time, lost again, waited 15 minutes, spent 3 gems on getting another early shot at it, and lost.
-Then some 3 times I waited half an hour and used 2 gems to "win half an hours time" and effectively put in 2 rounds in the same time as I could normally do one. I kept losing from that *** Retriever and decided that if I wanted to win it, now would be the time to use an ultimate attack, as otherwise there would be no more time nor enough gems left to do the same process for the Dread Panda too. I did just that. The 3rd strike of my last round against the Retriever was an ultimate attack.
-I then again repeated the "half hour, 2 gems" trick to speed a bit through the Dread Panda round and beat it on the 3rd attempt with the level 14 Treent. By then, it was around midnight, so I came dangerously close.

There!
I live in Europe, so I'm one of those who has the "8 hour extra night disadvantage", but I finally managed to beat a flash tournament!
After the tournament I had some 8 gems left. No time to hatch the egg in time to pick up the reward of course.
So, it can be done, and even without spending a TON of gems.
I did spent 41 gems this time, but that's not a bad price for gaining a super rare animal.

My lessons learnt:
-Make sure you have at least one animal at epic level of the base elements: earth, fire, water, nature, dark, lightning.
-The "special" elements are not so important in combat, if you ask me. I have the following additional elements, but they're not stellar performers: Shamrock, Space and Spring.
-Try to get that Treent as quickly as possible, and get it at epic level asap. It takes a LOT of expansions and money, but it is one of those unmissable 'animals' to have when battling those horrible gem animals.
-Use "something epic" that can do Nature attacks against treasure animals. Unless you have something that can do better than that (which is not the case for me).
-If using gems, do so wisely: only speed through when necessary and know when to count your losses and when to use an ultimate attack. For me, I really only want to use 1 or maybe 2 ultimate attacks at most per tournament. The last round normally doesn't require an ultimate attack, just a few normal attempts with the right epic animal should do. The second last round is the one that is most prone to require an ultimate attack.
-I don't know how some of the contributors already know all the opponents and their levels at the beginning of each tournament (does TL post this somewhere?) but make sure to look at that list as early as possible in the tournament, so you know which animals to not tie up in breeding, etc. and so you can also identify the round(s) that are most likely to cause major delays and/or require an ultimate attack.

Cheers,
Olafo

Congratulations on your win and thanks for the sharing your experience. If you want more information on how the Battle Arena/Battlegrounds work, refer to the thread Making Sense of the Battlegrounds. It is a little out o date but is an excellent reference on how the Critical Hit functions. The Posts at the beginning of the thread can serve as a bit of a tutorial and I consider it a must read for anyone that wishes to do well in the tournaments.

Good luck in your future battles.

Hi,

Many thanks for referring me to that post, if that indeed is the correct way the scores etc. work, then I need to revise my strategy.

Assuming everything in the respective thread to be correct, after reading the entire 11 pages of it, there is still one question that I wonder about. It comes down to if there is a difference in strength within the "same level of rarity".
As an example, consider the "super rare" category of animals and then take a look at the earning rates and the food costs. You will quickly come to notice that e.g. the "super rare Vinotaur" is a heckuva lot cheaper to get to epic level than the "super rare Treent" is. There seem to be some 4 or so different "levels" of earning and some 2-3 different levels of required food costs within the super rare category.
Now, I haven't checked all the element combinations, but what if one were to compare e.g. a Vinotaur against some other super rare hybrid that earns more and/or costs more food to raise, would the latter than be relatively stronger, assuming that they would both have the same elemental advantages against an opponent?

If there would be no difference, then it makes sense to first level up the ones that require lowest costs (making sure to also make smart choices in the combinations of elements, of course). At this time I am kind of assuming that the higher cost ones / higher earn rates ones, have a small edge over the lower cost super rares. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

At any rate the mission is clear: get as many distinct elemental combination super rares up to epic level asap. Today should see the completion of feeding one of my two Gold Lions to the point where it can be evolved to Epic level. After that one, I'm not sure which one to level up first. Keeping in mind that I have the Treent at epic level and the Gold Lion almost at epic level, after completing the Gold Lion here are the ones I would consider first (all of which requiring still "only" 1 evolution step):
-Vinotaur (Nature-Fire). Currently at level 12.
-Ancient Sloth (Nature-Earth). Currently at level 12.
-Blizard (Water-Earth). Currently at level 11.
-Thorilla (Electric-Earth). Currently at level 12.
-Twilight Troll (Dark-Nature). Currently at level 11.
-Hydro Yak (Water-Nature). Currently at level 11.
-Chocolate Rabbit (Earth-Fire). Currently at level 10.

The other super rares that I have are lagging quite a bit behind in terms of levels.

In light of the element combinations, after the above ones, I would first opt for those:
-Pluma (Electric-Dark). Currently at level 9. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 25 hours, still requiring 2 evolution steps.
-Cosmic Phoenix (Fire-Dark). Currently at level 6. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 19 hours, still requiring 2 evolution steps.

After that, there are a few single element super rares, of which most of them do not seem particularly important for combat:
-Harpy (Shamrock). Currently at level 10. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 11 hours, still requiring 1 evolution step.
-Leopardchaun (Shamrock). Currently at level 10. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 11 hours, still requiring 1 evolution step.
-Snapdragon (Spring). Currently at level 11. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 11 hours, still requiring 1 evolution step.
-Peony Pony (Spring). Currently at level 11. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 12 hours, still requiring 1 evolution step.
-Caturn (Space). Currently at level 10. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 15 hours, still requiring 1 evolution step.

Finally, there are possible alternatives to some of the above, as they have the same elemental combinations as one mentioned above. Those would be:
-Sea Horse (Water-Nature). Currently at level 1 (just got this today) [Alternative to Hydro Yak]. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 14 hours, still requiring 3 evolution steps.
-Glacial Griffin (Water-Earth) [Alternative to the Blizard]. Currently at level 8. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 18 hours, still requiring 2 evolution steps.
-Ladypug (Fire-Dark) [Alternative to the Cosmic Phoenix]. Currently at level 6. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 20 hours, still requiring 2 evolution steps.
-Dread Panda (Fire-Dark) [Alternative to the Cosmic Phoenix]. Currently still an egg. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 19 hours, still requiring hatching and 3 evolution steps.
-Tesslama (Electric-Earth) [Alternative to the Thorilla]. Currently at level 10. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 24 hours, still requiring 1 evolution step.
-Hareon (Electric-Fire) [Alternative to the Gold Lion]. Currently at level 7. Final food cost 30,000, evolution time 24 hours, still requiring 2 evolution steps.
-Growvine (Dark-Nature) [Alternative to the Twilight Troll]. Currently at level 7. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 18 hours, still requiring 2 evolution steps.
-Magmacore (Fire-Earth) [Alternative to the Chocolate Rabbit]. Currently at level 6. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 14 hours, still requiring 2 evolution steps.
-Pigmy (Fire-Earth) [Alternative to the Chocolate Rabbit]. Currently still an egg. Final food cost 24,000, evolution time 10 hours, still requiring hatching and 3 evolution steps.

So, the number 1 and 2 priority hybrids are pretty clear.
Out of the "alternatives" there is one that demonstrates my case: the "Hareon" vs. the "Gold Lion": both Electric-Fire hybrids, both super rare, but the former requires 30,000 food as last food step and the latter requires "only" 24,000 for that. Both have the same earn rate.
Can it be that the Hareon, just like the Treent, is more expensive to raise as these are not breedable animals, but can be obtained "simply" by freeing them? Or.... would the Hareon be slightly 'stronger' than the Gold Lion?

Also: any particular comments on which of the priority 1 super rares to best raise first?

Olafo

The reasoning that Hareon costs more food to level because it is a 'special' animal is most likely correct. If it were me and I had to choose between leveling the Hareon & Gold Lion I would go for the one that requires the least amount of food for cost & efficiency's sake. I don't think one is any 'stronger' than the other since they are both Super-Rare animals.

I would recommend leveling up the Ancient Sloth (earth/nature) that you get from the Battlegrounds. I have him currently at level 15 and he is effective against MANY opponents, especially the Ultra-Rare treasure animals that always seem to be in the tournaments. He seems to be my best fighter in general. :)

Other than that, I would recommend focusing on a few Super-Rares that have a couple different elements that seem to be useful, like these:
- (earth/fire)
- (water/electric)
- (water/dark)
- (electric/earth)
- Treent is good too (if you have him)
- Any Treasure animals (if you have them). My Money Badger seems particularly effective but - of course - he's hard to breed & expensive to buy

Note that I myself don't have many of these elements leveled to max and they still do decently at level 10-13.

That being said I do think that the tournaments/battlegrounds involve a great deal of luck when it comes to winning. It's unclear what the percentages are (at least to me) when choosing an animal that is *strong* against a certain opponent. There have been many times that I've accidentally chosen a *neutral* or *weak* animal and still won the battle.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your answer.

At this moment I have the following animals at epic level:
-Pyro Pony (fire)
-Frostfang (water)
-Pandaffodil (nature)
-Rock Rhino (earth)
-Skyger (dark)
-Lightning Leopard (electric)
-Firefox (dark-fire)
-Conducktor (electric-water)
-Treent (wood of life)

It almost seems ironic that the only non-common one is the Treent, which takes a humongous amount of resources to get and then raise to epic level. ;)
It's a key fighter though, so I made him my number 1 priority, along with trying to breed gem and/or treasure elements. No ultra rare in my forest yet, but the Treent was doable at least.

O.k., I'll be pragmatic about my first two choices for leveling up after the Gold Lion: first the cheapest ones, being (in that order) the Ancient Sloth and the Vinotaur. Both are already at level 12, are cheaper to raise than the others and both have already got a proven battle track record. After that I will probably pick a hybrid that's often mentioned as being particularly useful; quite possibly earth-fire. The Magmacore looks cooler if you ask me, but the Chocolate Rabbit is closer to level 15 and I'm sure my daughter wouldn't mind seeing that one leveled up to the max. Out of the others I think the Blizard and the Thorilla will be up next as they look particularly cool to me and they add useful elements (water and electric). I don't have an electric-water super rare, only a rare one (i.e. the Charger) and I prefer to first raise the unique super rare element combinations I have to the max. Possibly then, the Pluma (electric-dark) is another one of particular interest.
I'll take another look at the 'minimum animals list' that is mentioned in the "Making sense of the battlegrounds" post. If you haven't read it yet, I can strongly recommend doing so, as it's definitely one of the most useful topics I've seen on this forum so far!

Olafo

I agree with the response by Chippychan. What I did early on was to create a chart that had all the element combinations similar to the one that Sandscape had in the Battlegrounds post. Then I put the best animal that I had against each element combination. The animals that covered the most situations are the ones that I leveled up first. I also tried to breed animals to fill in the holes. It was easier to do back then since there ere fewer combinations to worry about.

I wouldn't worry too much right now about raising up the Special element animals to battle. The one exception being the Santa Claws (if you have it). I love to use it against Treasure animals but others have had as much success with a Strong Nature animal. With the opponent structure in the last few tournaments it is important to have a good Gem and Treasure ****er at the highest level since so many of them appear in the latest round. Treent should help you against Gem so you need a strong Nature animal to beat Treasure.

I don't know if a Super Rare of one element combination is as strong as another that have the same number of Strong attributes. For instance against a Skyger (pure Dark) Electric/Fire and Nature/Fire would have equivalent batting attributes. Do they actually perform the same? I do not know. I tend to believe that they are equivalent but I typically would use Electric/Fire in this situation anyway.

When it comes to rarity, I tend to believe that its contribution to the Critical Hit calculation is binary. If your animal is more rare, you get a point if it is less rare you lose a point. I don't think using an Ultra Rare against a common is any better than using a rare, but I have so many Super Rares at this point that I rarely use something other than a Super Rare in battle. I think the level of your animal vs. the level of the opponent is very important The most difficult part of the tournament starts when your opponent is at the same level or higher than your animal.

The one comment I have on your primary choice of animals is that I would hold off on the Vinotaur until the end of your primary creatures since you will already have a strong Fire in the Gold Lion and a strong Nature in the Ancient Sloth.

My other suggestion is to record your battle results and after the tournament is complete, review them to determine where you may have some weak spots and devise a strategy to resolve them.

Good luck to you in future tournaments, I think you are on the right track.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback!
Funnily enough, last night when reading the entire thread of "Making sense of the battleground" I also decided that I would create such a chart precisely as you mentioned in Excel.
Tonight I actually did just that, focusing on finding the optimal animals amongst my super rares, using as few animals as possible.

Using the combined information from the mentioned thread, in particular Zenobia's latest tables with elemental relationships, I set up the sheet. On tab 1, I copied Zenobia's latest list and added a few (incomplete) entries for gem-dark, shamrock, space, space-earth and space-water. This is now the "generic" guide I use.

On the second tab I created the table exactly as you too suggested. Obviously Zenobia used to have the very same layout, a thing that becomes evident from the order in which the various elemental combinations are listed. I decided to fill in the sheet in a symmetrical way (i.e. with the same choices both present under and above the diagonal), which is not really necessary, but maybe someone has a preference for reading it horizontally whereas other prefer to read it vertically. I grayed-out the combinations that do not exist (or at least do not yet exist). Then, for each elemental pair (and for each pure element) I consulted Zenobia's list and mapped that to my intended core group of fighters. With only 5 animals, I can cover almost the ENTIRE range of possibilities. These are: Blizard, Gold Lion, Ancient Sloth, Thorilla and Treent. When I add in two more "occassional fighters", being the Vinotaur and the Pluma, I can also close the two gaps that my core fighters don't cover.

Well then, as I type this, my Treent is already at level 15, the Gold Lion is currently in the flower to evolve to level 15 and tonight I managed to get the Ancient Sloth from level 12 to level 14. I am about to plant Nexus Nuts 6 times over, so when I wake up tomorrow I can give it its first two feedings towards the level 15 goal. It should be evolving in the flower somewhere in the afternoon tomorrow. The amount of times that the Thorilla appears in my sheet by far outranks that of the Blizard, so the Thorilla is next in line for leveling up and then the Blizard. Once those two are done, I'll level up the Vinotaur and the Pluma, which are the two "occasional fighters".

I have attached the Excel sheet (and a screen shot of my chart, for those who cannot use the chart in Excel) that I created. Instead of repeatedly typing the animal name and level in each cell in the sheet, I used references to the 7 mentioned animals. Now when one of them levels up, I only have to change the text in one place, and the entire chart reflects that accordingly.
This way it's also easier for others to re-use it with their own animals.

I did my best to limit the core group as much as possible to animals that can reasonably be obtained by everyone, and that also happen to be animals that are already at high levels in my forest. The exceptions are of course the Treent and the Gold Lion. The Treent in a way is very "trivial" to get (just like the battleground reward animals, that comprise the other 3 entries of the core group), it just requires a LOT of money and time. The Gold Lion may prove tough to get through breeding. I got two of them during the many failed attempts at getting a Golden Retriever. I decided to keep them both. If you cannot get a Gold Lion, the Daredevil should be a reasonable back-up option. There are only 3 possible outcomes of breeding the Pyro Pony with the Lightning Leopard and surely when trying this combination for a while not ALL of them will be the common Fireglider...

Good! I now know my leveling up strategy for the coming week or so, AND I now know exactly from which animals to choose my opponents when the next tournament comes round.

Now.... there's only one bit of doubt I have in the way some animal suggestions should be read in Zenobia's list. For example, consider the following two combinations:
dark-fire -> Earth-fire, water-fire or water-earth. Treasure. Treent.
dark-nature -> Ruby. Fire with anything but earth. Treent.

Do the suggestions gradually become "less good", the further to the right the suggestions appear each time after a '.' appears?
In other words: should e.g. the first combination be read as follows (where the higher the number, the lesser strong is the recommended choice)?:
dark-fire:
1) (best choice): Earth-fire, water-fire or water-earth.
2) (second best choice): Treasure.
3) (least good choice) Treent.

...or are all three "dot separated" recommendations (about) equally good?
I'm asking in particular, because for these two situations I chose the Treent as the one to put in the chart, but if the other mentioned options are better, then I'd better revise some of the choices I made.
As an example for the dark-fire combination: would I be better off picking the Blizard (once it's at level 15) which is water-earth, or would the Treent be an equally good choice?

Cheers,
Olafo

Hi Olafo,
You really did a thorough research about the strength of your animals :) What I highly recommend is to level up your Ancient Sloth, (which is the best warrior of all) the Glacial Griffin (which performs better than Blizzard, although they are the same element and rarity) and the Vinotaur! If you go through the previous tournament threads, you'll see that these are used successfully against several opponents! It was very useful too, to have your Treent an epic!
(I have no Vinotaur, but my Cactus Kitsune is really good, the Pandaffodil is also surprisingly good against gem element.) This is my experience.
Plus, the extra elements are quite a dissapointment for me, (clover and spring and space) I hardly can win with them. Unfortunately I started playing when the Valentine event has just expired, therefore I have no such elements, neither Halloween or X- mas, however I can see that they perform really well. :(
Wish you good luck with tournaments! :)
