Why did event start automatically?

I have no desire to do this event, the last one was way too stressful. This morning I get on to see that a couple of my dishes I made overnight have the ship icon over them...so of course they went to the event that I'm NOT playing instead of on my counters. I never started this event & now I can't find a way to quit! This should not be a problem to begin with...if someone doesn't want to do it then why force it?

I am sorry but that is the way the feature is designed. It will be over soon and since it is timed it will expired.

If you see a dish pop up under the ship that you are currently cooking for another goal, just hit the refresh button on that dish to get rid of it then it will not interfere with the goal you are working on.
