Why does "visit" button not always work?

Periodically I receive messages saying "A friend responded to your request for help. Why not pay them a visit?" and a blue "visit" button. About one time out of four, touching the "visit" button gets no response. And it seems to be consistent -- once I am unable to visit a player, repeated attempts also fail. Is this a known problem?

Try touching the kingdom name to left of visit button, this will usually work.
