Farm story 2: Year of the sheep event 2-19-15 guide, info, unlocking

Event has begon (IOS only).

Well as you can see it requires a x number of level to get started with the only 12 days during event.

You have to buy the Lunar Workshop ($1500). In the workshop you can craft Fortune Cookies (3 flours, 2 sugars, 3 eggs = 1.5 hours) and the Chinese Dragon (4 gold ores, 2 ruby, 5 screws, 5 saws = 12 hours).

There are also Peach Blossom Trees and mum flower bushes ($150) that take 3 hours & 22 hours and require flower clippers (received from deliveries) to harvest (both plants can be harvested twice each then they dissapear)

New bait (2 iron, 2 wool, 2 flax = 2 hours)

Like in the last event Valentine's there seperated missions.

Missions:

Game progress missions: goal sheep dog.

Mission 1: Chinese new year: Buy 1 lunar shop, plant 4 peach blossom trees, Give 12 fortune cookies, Give 6 harvested peach blossoms (reward 160 coins, 2 packs of fire work, 32 exp points).

Mission 2: The lucky bumpling: Craft 3 lucky bait, Give 6 fish bumplings, Give 18 fortune cookies (reward 160 coins, 32 exp, 1 lantarn tree).

Mission 3: The year of the sheep:Harvest 2 Mum Flowers, Give 5 New Year Flowers, Give 5 Sheep Plushies (Rewards : 160 coins + 1 animated Drum + 32xp).

Final mission 4:festival fortune: Give 25 cookies, Give 9 fish dumpling, Give 10 new year flowers, Give 7 sheep plushies (Reward: 160 coins, 1 sheep dog & 32XP).

Morgan primrose missions:

Mission 1: Happy chinese new year: build a chinese dragon from the lunar shop, place the dragon on your farm (Reward 160 coins & 32 exp).

However these missions will not be easy because they ask alot of researches that some of us don't have unlocked yet your been warned for this check this well.

Items that are unlocked for the start of this event are:

Lunar shop / 1500 coins.
Chinese dragon pony / you buy a single horse / no skin / 400 gems.
Peach blossom tree / 150 coins each.

I think the times and costs are correct, but if anybody spots a mistake I am sorry. I do not know the cost of skipping in the final goal as I am not there yet but hopefully it is still 10 gems per dumpling!

PET GOALS

1: Chinese New Year
Buy 1 Lunar Workshop (1,500 coins) - builds quickly
Plant 4 peach blossom trees (3hrs maturing time) 150 coins each
Give 12 fortune cookies (3 flour, 2 sugar, 3 eggs) 1.5 hrs = 18hrs
Give 6 harvested peach blossoms (3 plants, 6 clippers)

Give 6 fish dumplings (4 flour, 3 eggs, 2 lucky fish) 2.5 hrs = 15 hrs - 10 GEMS EACH TO SKIP
Give 18 fortune cookies (27 hrs)
Reward - 160 coins, 1 lantern tree, 32 xp

Crafting Time - 42 hrs if lucky with fishing, otherwise days!
Cost - your sanity! or 60 gems if feeling flush!


3: The Year of the Sheep
Harvest 2 mum flowers (22 hrs maturing time) 150 coins each
Give 5 new year flowers (3 mum flowers, 3 peach blossom) 3.5hrs = 17.5 hrs - 12 GEMS EACH TO SKIP
Give 5 sheep plushies (4 wool, 2 mum flowers, 2 peach blossom) 3 hrs 15 hrs - 18 GEMS EACH TO SKIP
Reward - 160 coins, 1 drum, 32 xp

Crafting Time - 54.5 hrs
Cost - 13 mum bushes, 13 peach blossom trees


4: Festival Fortune
Give 25 fortune cookies 37.5 hrs
Give 9 fish dumpling 22.5 hrs
Give 10 new year flowers 35 hrs
Give 7 sheep plushies 21 hrs
Reward - 160 coins, 1 sheep dog, 32 xp

Crafting Time - 116 hrs = 4.8 days
Cost - 22 mum flowers, 22 peach blossom trees

Total Time = 230.5 hrs = 9.6 days SO NOT MUCH LEEWAY CONSIDERING THE FISHING DEBACLE!!

Minidemon has provided amount of flowers for the last two goals.

I just did a calculation based on the goals requirement.

In order to craft all 15 New Year Flowers, you will need 45 mum flowers and 45 peach blossom. Then for the 12 sheep plushies, you will need 48 wools, 24 mum flowers and 24 peach blossom. Altogether 69 mum flowers and 69 peach blossom. Or 138 clippers for all those flowers.

Waa, I though I've enough materials for the goals. Guess I need to stockpile more again. :(

You're not the only one that feels it is unfair, but from TL's point-of-view you have to understand that with Android there are so many different platforms with different coding to reach all those users, whereas with iPhone and iPad, it is JUST APPLE and the coding is the same. That is why Android can't have all the same things that Apple users can, the coding is much more complex due to the sheer volume of different android devices and what platforms their coding requires.

I think this might be something you have to make in later steps of the event. Maybe in the studio? Just guessing...

They take 22 hrs to grow, need clippers to harvest.
For the 3rd stage, you need 15 mum petals for the flower pot, and 10 for the sheep plushies.
Not sure if more will be needed in the next phase, so when you're planting the mums, plant tons of extras if you don't want to wait another day.....they cost only 150 coins each.

Hmm I see, since the valentines bait was such a success last time, they decided to use it again for this event!! So far I have managed to catch exactly 0 lucky fish with them... Personally I think it is just cruel of TL to have us use those stupid bait again when most of us exhausted all our tools and iron during the last event.... But what else is new.

Well so far I regret making the dragon. It just seems to be a huge decor piece which will go into storage. I made it because I thought it we had to place it as part of the goal to complete the event and upgrade it like we normally do.

From what I can see after you place the dragon, that's it for that goal. The goal where you make the fortune cookies, which I think then unlocks more goals, seems to be independent of the dragon goal.

So it may not be necessary to waste all those resources if you don't want the decoration but having said that probably the day before the end of the event, TL will announce that it needs to be completed to win the prize.

Without any instructions here we all seems to be playing the guessing game. Based on the last 2 events it is highly likely that we will be unable to complete the goals without spending gems. I have not made any of the new bait after I wasted all that iron and wool on the Valentine bait.

Make sure you scroll down there is six peach blossoms to give to finish that goal.
Build lunar shop
Give twelve fortune cookies
Grow four peach trees
And the one you have to scroll down for

Got that quite a bit. But they've fixed the fish and peach flowers so we can post extras...

The next quest, "The Lucky Dumpling", calls for crafting 3 bait. This sounds reasonable until you realize that we need to make 6 dumplings which require 4 flour, 3 eggs, and 2 fish each, for a total of 12 fish. After the Valentine event, in which I used over 100 tools, I have no tools or iron ore, and the drop rate is very poor. The chances of getting TL's "lucky fish" are so slim that I think of them as "unlucky fish."

This same quest also includes 18 more fortune cookies (3 flour, 2 sugar, 3 eggs each equals 54 flour, 36 sugar, and 54 eggs). Added to the above we will need 24 more flour and 18 eggs for a grand total of 78 flour and 72 eggs.
This seems impossible without spending $ and/or gems.

I don't think I will make it to the sheep doggie but good luck to all.

It also only requires 3 baits to be crafted, but you need 12 red fish for the dumplings in the 2nd challenge, and since you're not going to get a red fish with every lucky bait, it's going to take a lot more than 3!

Step4 uses more peach blossom trees ans well as the mum flowers. Those take 2 days to grow so make sure you buy plenty.. Not sure how many more will be needed. I'm still waiting for mine to grow.

After the Valentine event, in which I used over 100 tools, I have no tools or iron ore, and the drop rate is very poor. The chances of getting TL's "lucky fish" are so slim that I think of them as "unlucky fish."

This same quest also includes 18 more fortune cookies (3 flour, 2 sugar, 3 eggs each equals 54 flour, 36 sugar, and 54 eggs). Added to the above we will need 24 more flour and 18 eggs for a grand total of 78 flour and 72 eggs.
This seems impossible without spending $ and/or gems.

I don't think I will make it to the sheep doggie but good luck to all.

The goal gives a lantern tree, so there must be more goals for the dog!

I've seen peach blossom for sale and I have the trees and lots of clippers but no need for them other than the first goal of giving 6. Which seems odd too.

There could be more goals being released in the coming days but I think if the bait doesn't work and people can't get the fish, then there will be no point to any other goals. They are just going to get stuck.

The mum flowers are planted in the same way as the blossom trees. The new year flowers are made in the lunar workshop and I don't know anything about the plushies.
So you will need clippers which are abundant on my farm. I need to know how many I should save as my barn is bursting.

As far as we can see, it is not necessary to craft the dragon unless you want the decoration and then you have the whole event to do so.

So it looks like there are 4 goals altogether to get the sheep dog.

We are going to need a 6 dumplings for the 2nd goal and 9 dumplings for the 4th goal. That's 30 fish needed to make the dumplings.

Just a heads up about the time needed to craft everything in the lunar workshop. Unless you can use your workshop 24 hours a day (and for that you will need parts to unlock slots) it is going to be very difficult to craft everything you need (not that you will be able to get all the fish :p)

Please bear all this in mind before you start goals you will not be able to achieve.

Have just made a decision not to complete this task. Too much is asked, both in time and stress. The only way is to spend gems. I will leave it till Easter so I can collect some tools together. This game is supposed to be played for fun, but all the fun has been taken away. It used to be a laugh reading the forum as it was good to know that other people were struggling with you, but one person leaving posts just annoys me.they seem to think that everyone should spend money and play the game the way they tell you to. Very interesting. The problem with these goals is you cannot plant the mum flowers until you unlock the goal which requires them. Once you plant them you cannot harvest them for 22 hours. Therefore this puts the goal on hold for a day. I suppose you can continue making the cookies and dumplings for the last goal or the dragon. This is no good for players who do not read this forum so know they'll need them.

I don't think there will be a problem getting clippers when you need them. I have seen hundreds in the newspaper today. The same with the peach blossom. There are probably a lot of people wondering why they need them because they can't see the later goals.

And without iron and the fish, they are not going to get there either.

On a happier note, right now I'm just waiting for my bushes to grow, and watching my wonderful pets roaming around my farm. I love how they stop and look at the livestock. It so cute. When I arrange my farm I made sure, everything was accessable to my pet so they weren't confined to one place. I've not unlocked the flowers either. I have had 2 fish out of 6 bait. Unless I get more fish I will be unable to unlock the flowers without gems to complete the dumpling requirements.

I've not unlocked the flowers either. I have had 2 fish out of 6 bait. Unless I get more fish I will be unable to unlock the flowers without gems to complete the dumpling requirements.

In summary there is over 9 days worth of crafting calculated on the basis that the lunar workshop is used 24 hours a day, every day.

Thank you Ciarjen for breaking this down! Yikes I didn't think about the time I'd need to complete all the goals. I can barely play 10 hrs/day let alone 24 nonstop. I've always been able to get all the pets in an event. I will still give my best effort but this event might be the first one I can't get the pet.

forgive me if this is a stupid question ... but given how long it takes to craft each item & how many of each we need, how can you be half way though mission 4 without spending a single gem? am I missing some trick to these challenges?

By buying cookies, fish and dumplings in the shop. I was lucky enough to buy 15 cookies early on so that is 30 hrs crafting time saved. I have yet to see any fish or dumplings tho!

I just want to say thank you to you all for your valuable insight and tips for this event. If I never found this forum I would be lost and probably frustrated by now.

My advice would be to stalk the newspaper. Clippers are always on sale. I've also managed to buy 4 dumplings from Stormie and all of the sheep plushies. Don't give up, a lot can happen in 10 days.

These goals are not easy and nor are they meant to be.

We get how you find it easy though, as you keep telling us. But to keep saying it is easy, when it is not for others, is not productive.


Perhaps a little more consideration for other players would be better.

Yeah, when you are playing on multiple devices I'm sure it makes it "easy" for you but don't try to make it sound like your lucky! You just have too much time on your hands!

I also don't appreciate you telling us over and over how 'easy' it is. This is a very hard event for most people, and like Judy said, most are still on the second stage. I have been making bait non stop and out of 15+ bait I have caught 3 lucky fish. That is a ton of resources and frustration, and to keep seeing you say how easy these quests are is actually more disheartening. Not everyone has two accounts to play on, or unlimited time. I have never had to gem through quests before, and this is the first one I feel I have to.

Randomness combined with low drop rate is always going to cause a problem. Lots of people are going to find obtaining the fish very difficult. Then there is also the problem of getting the iron and mining tools.......

If you can afford to spend some gems it may be worthwhile skipping the dumplings and then crafting what else you can. In the meantime you may find some extras people are selling in the newspaper.

The pony will be available to buy until the end of the event anyway.


The sheepdog looks seriously cute, so I think it is worthwhile trying to get if you have the options with gems to finish off if you need to.

I went ahead and skipped the dumplings in the second goal with gems; thanks everyone for the good advice. Still crafting bait and fishing the hot spots, but for 9 baits crafted I still have zero lucky fish to show for it. Clippers seem to be making the rounds in the newspaper, so I am not too worried about those. Also managed to snag a plushie there!

There is no limit on how many Chinese dragon ponies you buy.
They cost four hundred gems each and when you bought it it should of went in your cellar.

If all your horse pens are full though it would say limit reached.

Store a horse in that case in your cellar.

But this does not tell you where your horse is

I may be skipping it as well...I don't have the gems to drop for second event and if you get the fish random then it probably take four to five bait to get a fish and I don't have that amount of iron save up, I use most for valentines.

TL is actually saying this? Wow...that is an insult...it takes a while to get the materials for the bait, I think every bait should produce a lucky fish. I could see if it was regular bait the yellow one then I could see but getting wool and iron is hard.

Im guessing as people were saying about having 2nd accounts that they have more than 1 and are selling themselves the extra items from those accounts to the main 1

Then hit the trade button on your main farm. Doing it this way is very fast and you won't lose. Remember to reboot your farms before trying it again. I finally got the ore to make the bait and got a lucky fish on the first try. I nearly fell over. With the drop rate for tools what it currently is and the frequency of getting ore that will probably be it for me, particularly since with the Valentine's episode going how I thought it would, I'm not trying hard--too frustrating and disappointing to want to succeed just to get diddly squat. I contemplated the dragon, even knowing the lousy drop rate for gold, but decided that's a lost cause.

I'll echo what the overwhelming majority of the others have said. It is not easy. I don't mind working for the goals, but the work has to be rewarded at a better rate than what the game does. And that opinion has nothing to do with wanting stuff in an hour's time.

I have three extra farms. I did it like this and two other ways. Sometimes it worked. Mostly it didn't. Some dork was always faster than me. Especially on my super baby shops. Now I just play for the gems in other games, Im case I get another ipad or larger android tablet later, that will make checking the games more often worthy.

Then hit the trade button on your main farm. Doing it this way is very fast and you won't lose. Remember to reboot your farms before trying it again. Do 1 item at a time to make it faster and you shouldn't lose. Trying to list 2 or more items increases your chance of losing

I have three extra farms. I did it like this and two other ways. Sometimes it worked. Mostly it didn't. Some dork was always faster than me. Especially on my super baby shops. Now I just play for the gems in other games, Im case I get another ipad or larger android tablet later, that will make checking the games more often worthy.
It helps if your smaller farms have no neighbors other than your own farms. That cuts down on visits by neighbors. Also, do not visit any farms from your mini farms and don't post from those farms on others walls. The idea is not to leave a trail. I have 4 neighbors on my mini farms... All mine. I don't visit other farms. If I do, don't tap on hearts, don't post on wall.

I have always read all of the advice ciarjen gives and it is always very useful to most of the players that come to this forum.

I for one agree with Wendy I think I choose to no longer post on this particular thread and am tired of being made to feel inferior. Glad there was two threads for the valentine event.

I love this game and enjoyed the way the players helped each other on the forum during events and I choose to no longer be mocked and I really don't understand why you are allowed to do this.

Ciarjen and minidemon and a few others have always jumped in with constructive advice.

I have counted to ten a few times and now am hitting post.

It's great to help out one another if you can, since afterall we are still fellow farmers! Otherwise, none of us will be able to complete and get the community prizes right? Although I don't like the way how TL set up some of the events. Especially the ridiculous low drop rates and now we got the stupid low drop rate for special bait.

Used 11 baits and only got 2 fishes back. Only enough to craft one dumpling. No fish = no dumpling! And I'm still stuck at the 2nd goal. Ha! :rolleyes: Indeed a fortune torture event!

Goal number 2 the Lucky Dumpling is complete. I used gems to skip the dumplings as I am having difficulty getting the fish needed. What a surprise ! I actually got an empty hook this morning from a hotspot, not even an anchovy. :(



I've unlocked the mums and have planted lots of them but will have to wait a day to harvest so I can't craft any of the new year flowers or plushies at the moment. In the meantime I will keep making fortune cookies in anticipation of goal number 4.

This is called duplication trade,
Trading with your self for own profits and us on multiple devices.

I do this from the beginning and mostly at 3 trades at the same time.

Yes i lose sonetimes but mostly i win anyway.

I am almost done expanding my farm and i am lvl 21 hihi with alot of free space.

Use ios for events and combine android for tools and maps.

I found out that android has a small (small show up delay) if you selling things
with an android it shows the items on ios bit later recalculate that.

We need 30 fish to complete the goal. It takes 2 iron to craft each bait and considering how rare it is to get the fish, we need iron in the 100s. And considering how iron in the mine is not too common either that means we probably need treble or quadruple that in mining tools to complete the goal.

This is insane. No One can achieve this goal.


If the fish are a rare drop from the bait, then the bait should be one which is easily crafted.


With this special lucky bait and the amount of iron/tools needed to make it, it should be a guaranteed drop.

In the end I gave up and spent gems to complete the second goal :(

As many have already said this goal isn't achievable unless you can use multiple devices or are lucky enough to find something useful in the newspaper.

I gave the unlucky bait the benefit of the doubt and I crafted 30 baits and used them in batch of 10 only to get 3 fishes. Apparently according to TL I was supposed to craft 120 baits to get the fish needed for the 6 dumplings which means 240 iron ores which means at least 200 mining tools right after a resources consuming event :mad:

Whoever came up with the idea of the bait deserves to be hit with rotten fish.

They didn't even take the time to consider our feedback for the Valentine's Day event. They want us to craft the baits using precious and rare resources then wait for 2 hours only to get back an anchovy or even worse a 'try again'.

Pushing for gems purchases like this isn't fair. I would understand the long crafting time and the absurd resources requested if we were to make a reusable bait... even the low drop rate for lucky fish would be fine but these baits are a consumable so the fish should be guaranteed.

Oh well... I fell for this sick scheme this time but next time I'm definitely skipping the event.

I am not even going to try for the dog. :( I will just get the dragon and call it quits. The iron is too impossible. What a shame.

I agree with everything you said. The hopeful part of me thinks maybe TL doesn't realise that they set this up so that you need hundreds of mining tools just to get the fish that you need. But then we have given them loads of feedback on this and in the Valentine's event and they have not responded so I am inclined to believe this is exactly how they have planned it.

I can understand them wanting players to financially contribute in these events. But like you say this is a sick scheme. It's the underhand deviousness of their tactics which leave me uneasy and it is such a shame, as the more they take the fun out of these events, the less people want to play.
