Did not receive mystery box item from trading

Isn't one supposed to get a mystery box when trading a rare dragon, along with small gem(s) of the dragon's color(s)? Or is that mystery box not always guaranteed for every rare/super rare/ultra rare trade? I just traded a Trickster and only got one small topaz and one small amethyst. :confused:
