passed level 156 and need 309/312 stars??

I usually see that I need 3 or 4 stars but this time I passed level 156 and a big star appears with 309/312 beside it.
It also says I need to unlock 36 golds but my gold bars have been depleting as I play so don't know whats up with that.
Is this normal to need this many stars??

Sorry for the confusion - This means you have 309 out of 312 stars, so you need 3 more!

You don't need to spend any gold.
