Dragon egg questions

I have a goal "Night Glimmer Sword" in the evil queen and glimmer gate line of goals.

I need to forge the sword, but am missing an ingredient (Enchanted Adamant Bar) and to make this bar I need dragon scales.

I have a red scaly dragon egg in my inventory and a spot to hatch it in the forge, but I can't hatch it.

How do I get dragon scales if I can't hatch the egg? Is there another place to look?

You need a burning ember in order to hatch your egg. The ember is only found in the Desert Sands adventure. It will take a few goes.
