Castle Story: 12/18/2014: New craft building! Winter Bakery

Hi everyone,

Time for another holiday update! This week your Kingdom will be busy preparing resources to build a new craft building! This week's update will start today 12/18 at 12 PM PST and will end on 12/29 at 12 PM PST. You must be level 26+ to access these Goals.


Just to clarify, the final reward for this chain is 1 Winter Bakery. You will get this item regardless of whether or not you purchased any Bakeries from the Market. The quest was designed to be difficult (This is nearly a 3rd kitchen!) but it is intended to be absolutely completable without buying any Bakeries with gems.

GOAL INFORMATION - A Culinary Christmas

New building in Market: 750 gems. Winter Bakery - "craft kitchen recipes which require baking".


Step 1
Reward 400 coins, 2 xp
Collect 10 hot chocolates - collect from cottages (you can build a cottage with 3 wooden beams and 3 stone blocks)
Bake 4 gingerbread cookies - 1 flour, 1 sugar, 5 eggs (Kitchen, 30 mins ea)

Step 2
Reward 400 coins, 2 xp
Bake 5 Christmas cookies - 1 flour, 5 milk, 1 sugar (kitchen 2 hours)

Step 3
Reward 1000 coins, 2 xp
Make 3 Fruitcake - 1 flour, 6 lemons, 8 oranges (kitchen, 4 hours) (skip for 60 gems)
Trade with Fruit farmers (exchange) (skip for 20 gems)
Request 40 cinnamon sticks from neighbours (skip for 100 gems)

Step 4
Reward 1000 coins, 2 xp
Give 10 ciders - 3 apples, 3 water, 3 cinnamon sticks.

Step 5
Reward 1000 coins, 2 xp
Make 1 holiday feast and travel to Polaris north one time (you have to bake one from scratch, ones in inventory don't count)
Holiday Feast: 5 hot chocolate, 2 gingerbread, 10 milk (kitchen 1 hour)
Go to Polaris North: 1 Holiday feast, 5000 coins (you can send out in advance, just don't collect until you get to this step)

Step 6
Reward 1000 coins, 2 xp
Give 3 Frosting cement - 1 sugar, 2 superglue, 1 green dye (kitchen 3 hours each) (skip 45 gems)
Make 5 powdered stone - 10 stone (workshop 1 hour each) (skip 30 gems)
Give 5 ginger bricks - 1 flour, 3 eggs, 1 powdered stone (kitchen 6 hours each) (skip 75 gems)
[in the kitchen, each powdered stone is 4 gems to skip]

Green dye - 1 blue dye, 1 yellow dye (potion shop 1 hour each)
[in the kitchen, each green dye is 10 gems to skip]

Step 7
Make 3 candy canes: 1 sugar, 2 mint leaves, 1 red dye (kitchen 54 minutes)
Travel to Polaris North
[Mint leaves come from Polaris adventure - 2 leaves per trip (? that's what I got)]


Step 8
To Polaris North: 1 Holiday feast, 5000 coins

Thank goodness it doesn't need faerie supplies, I'm still working to get 10 of everything to build their workshop!
I've been so swamped getting holiday gifts out in the mail that I haven't had a chance to even visit my kingdom until now. So thankfully can just wait to collect from everything in case it's part of the new crafting building quest :)

By the way you have to "collect" the hot chocolate. I had 21 in my inventory left over from another quest and I still have to collect it from my cottages.

Same goes for the gingerbread. I already have some, but I need to bake 4 more.

I only had 2 hot chocolates. They were already counted in my kitchen for the holiday feast ingredients before I collected from the cottage. So while we have to craft/collect from new I'd say we'll have to make a few feasts to go to Polaris North.

To lower level players..I'd suggest you plant 50:50 wheat and sugar cane now to prepare for making sugar and flour for the gingerbread men. And keep collecting from those chickens!

I've been maxed on beams and blocks for ages. I didn't realize cottages were so easy to make...9 more coming up :)

lol - I only brought my total up to 5. The thought was that in 4 hours I am halfway there and in another 4 hours, completed. BUT... it seems it is actually a rare drop. So I may use up the rest of my beams and blocks and get 10 cottages down. And yes - I am SO glad I stocked up on beams and blocks. I was afraid I would max out on them before needing them lol. I still have 77 fancy beams and 88 fancy blocks if we need them for the bakery.

Also, I really like how the quest has a graphic in the goals menu showing how many steps there are total, and how far along we are (the dots on a line). A very helpful thing I hope they do in future quests as well. :)

:( I had SO hoped that after some of us complained after the Halloween event that it's not right that those of us who spent a significant amount of money to buy the barracks don't get to use them for what we would far and away MOST want to use them for - limited time quests - that they would have changed that by now. I am very sad they care so little about players investing money in their game that they continue to disenfranchise us this way. Correct me if I am wrong, but the main reason for people playing a free game to spend money on items in the game is to gain some sort of advantage - to save time or get extra chances for something. But the barracks don't help at ALL, EVER, when they would be most useful - for limited time quests / events. I highly recommend that all players who have not already wasted their money on the barracks NOT buy them. They are not only completely useless for what you would most want them for, but IMO, every time this situation comes up it's like a slap in my face, and a good reason to never spend any more money on this game. I wish I could get a refund on my insultingly useless barracks.

Quest is available for 11 days... If I were you, I would play obsessively, prepare items needed for this questline & level up quickly!!! Good luck, you can do it! :-)

What advantage? There is nothing to be gotten from regular adventures that helps me in any remotely significant way these days. I am not wanting for the building supplies they drop; there is no use whatsoever for boar pelts; I am generally maxed on sap, mermaid scales, truffles, prime cuts, and nearly so on silver, jewels & earth wisps. And a ninth overgrown bench or fourth pumpkin hutch would not do much to help me get ahead. The only thing the barracks would truly be useful for for all the players in a similar position to me, is adventures (at the usual 2x time) for limited time quests / events.

ETA: it is what it is, though, and i won't harp on it.

but baracks are also in the royal exchange at some point for 99 trade tickets.. so you do NOT have to buy with real money ;)

Tinker camp is available for 99 trade tickets. Barracks have only ever been a gem building as far as I can remember.

first game been playing almost two years i think.. so memories about how and when i got the baracks faded away, only thing i know for sure, i have never bought gems.. only got them as rewards.. and on android.. this does never happen, also a point of interest

lol - I only brought my total up to 5. The thought was that in 4 hours I am halfway there and in another 4 hours, completed. BUT... it seems it is actually a rare drop. So I may use up the rest of my beams and blocks and get 10 cottages down. And yes - I am SO glad I stocked up on beams and blocks. I was afraid I would max out on them before needing them lol. I still have 77 fancy beams and 88 fancy blocks if we need them for the bakery.

Also, I really like how the quest has a graphic in the goals menu showing how many steps there are total, and how far along we are (the dots on a line). A very helpful thing I hope they do in future quests as well. :)

I, too, had only brought myself up to 6, as I had them left from last year, but being naxed on stone blocks and wooden beams, I thought, "Why not??"... and may have gone a little overboard. Maybe.

Make a holiday feast. That will use up your gingerbread so you can make more and not have to spend gems. You do that twice and you'll finish the make gingerbread portion while waiting for your cottages to ripen.

U are right. There was the green Xmas tree cookies. I think it might have been after the requesting the cinnamon sticks but before the apple cider.

Yep! Mine too. Step 2. Give Christmas cookies x 5 (milk x5, flour x1, sugar x1) takes 2 hours. (400 coins, 2xp)

The first thing I did when I came home today was try to make a gingerbread man, it started. Then when I tried to start a second there was a flash. My kitchen looked like I had never built it but the gingerbread was still cooking and counting down. Now a hlaf hour later my kitcehn is back and my gingerbread has started over for another 30 minutes!

The quest was designed to be difficult (This is nearly a 3rd kitchen!) but it is intended to be absolutely completable without buying any Bakeries with gems.

Tell you what, this goal is not for the faint-hearted or those who don't have an awful lot of time to spare. It's full on! Keep checking the first post for updates so you can prepare as much as possible in advance.

for eg, do you have enough blue and yellow dye? do you have enough wheat/flour and sugarcane/sugar to make cookies? do you have a fruit trade ready to go? do you have enough lemons (need 18) and oranges (need 24) and apples (need 30)?

I just sped up my cookies on my level 26, and YES, YES, YES my trade with the fruit farmers became available. Hooray.

:( I had SO hoped that after some of us complained after the Halloween event that it's not right that those of us who spent a significant amount of money to buy the barracks don't get to use them for what we would far and away MOST want to use them for - limited time quests - that they would have changed that by now. I am very sad they care so little about players investing money in their game that they continue to disenfranchise us this way. Correct me if I am wrong, but the main reason for people playing a free game to spend money on items in the game is to gain some sort of advantage - to save time or get extra chances for something. But the barracks don't help at ALL, EVER, when they would be most useful - for limited time quests / events. I highly recommend that all players who have not already wasted their money on the barracks NOT buy them. They are not only completely useless for what you would most want them for, but IMO, every time this situation comes up it's like a slap in my face, and a good reason to never spend any more money on this game. I wish I could get a refund on my insultingly useless barracks.

I cannot agree more, except 100 RP, the barrack is just sitting there in my queendom :(

My knights we're not on adventure, so I checked, I saw The Polaris Adventure already listed and -yeah!- I had 2 feasts left from previous quest, so I send the knights out immediately. 9 hours later: I just collected from the knights, and received..... wisp and fur.... That's it (not even energy).....

When do the knights bring back building materials? Must I reach step 5 first?

but i had to hide them all year long, cause they were only storable for a very short time..
and they take up 2x2 in space, so not really nice i had to leave them in..

Arggg...why must I pick up mushrooms one at a time for the fruit trade?! Before yesterday I was working on the Faerie Bridge and a potion from the greenhouse requires mushrooms so naturally I was quite low. After my 3rd boar **** this morning I finally decided to park one out of the way so I could devote more energy to mushrooms. The monster music adds to the frantic nature of a timed quest so my queendom has a frazzled feel about the place.

Not counting on Apple tree to drop, extremely rare but a few more gems...can buy a lemon tree. Just hate spending gems on that bc I was lucky in my other game and received 3 lemon so far, 1 orange (after 2 years of playing!) and bought an apple tree.

AND I think I read a previous post that I may not have had to give up my stews and veggies to get that trade in the exchange in this quest. Is that right?

I like how TL designed the quests with the players would like to make one (or more) extra items as a keepsake of the quest. You have to make 5 items, so it doesn't matter whether you have 2 or 3 places to make them, you still have one slot left over, so you might as well make that extra item.

Hey Whidbey, not sure what you're referring to with the apple pie and orange cobbler, but we DO unlock the Trade with the Fruit Farmers craft in the Culinary Christmas questline, even if you haven't unlocked it yet via the regular quest. So if I understand your question correctly, you should be able to just move forward with Culinary Christmas without a problem :) All that's required for this questline is that you complete the "Trade with the Fruit Farmers" in the Royal Exchange once.

Thanks Glimmergate. I think the last goal for the trade with fruit farmers is to make the cobbler and apple pies. So we would still have to do all those steps to complete that quest line. But for this new one I could have skipped giving away food products and stew. Either way I have it now. Won't make the pies til I get some fruit trees to finish other quest tho.

Another question: I know it's a bit off topic but actually on topic if I need to purchase gems to buy trees for this quest.

Is their a link on how to pay for gems with an iTunes card. My sweet husband would not be too happy knowing I've spent gems on a game I love! Even tho he can by stuff like Lottery tickets. What the heck! Not fair! That's a whole other topic. Lol

For those needing a last few apples, oranges, or lemons, you do get some of those fruit from the fruit trade. (I only received oranges and apples on this trade, didn't get to see how many though.) Although an awful lot of mushrooms for a couple of fruit.

The cinnamon sticks don't show up in your inventory. If you look at your goal, you should see how many you've received. (Sometimes this doesn't show up right away, but if you force close the game and restart it, you should see them.)

So if you want to gem this part you get the Cinnamon. No worries!

yes, I would also really like the opportunity to collect some more Polarian objects that would help me finish my reindeer stable - it doesn't seem too unreasonable to think that adventuring to Polaris ought to bring us some Polarian items back... (pretty please??!)

Edit: could someone tell me whether it's actually possible to complete an unbuilt reindeer stable (e.g. by buying the missing Polarian items at each stage with gems) (I already have 5 Polarian planks and 10 forever snow) or whether if I want a finished one I should just buy another one from the market with gems. If it is possible to complete the one I have (including the final step of putting the reindeer in there - which, looking at the old goal thread was at the time obtained from the Royal Exchange, so presumably no longer possible that way) how many gems will it cost (i.e. more or less than a new/completed stable)? During our last timed quest I sent requests to all my neighbors, I have about 120. I kept getting responses for the following 5 days. One of which was from fianc? (on the 4th day), he said he had just recieved the request. :confused: I myself have seen numerous requests which are way over 15h old. I check into CS about every 2 hours. All this leads me to believe, the system is functioning very weirdly. And I tend to flood everybody just to be sure all may go well, and sometimes I feel bad about it. :o

Yes, as 95% of the quest requirements, you only get credit for finishing that part when you COLLECT from the building, not when you send it to craft

Can someone tell me what steps 7 and 8 require to complete. I don't see anything written in them steps in post #1. Sorry if this has been answered already, I've read every post but didn't see steps 7 and 8 and what they require.

During our last timed quest I sent requests to all my neighbors, I have about 120. I kept getting responses for the following 5 days. One of which was from fianc? (on the 4th day), he said he had just recieved the request. :confused: I myself have seen numerous requests which are way over 15h old. I check into CS about every 2 hours. All this leads me to believe, the system is functioning very weirdly. And I tend to flood everybody just to be sure all may go well, and sometimes I feel bad about it. :o

You are definitely right about the weird system as I sent 4 hours ago 2 new requests to two neighbors on line and they were waiting for it, but nothing ! they never got my requests nor did I receive anything on my news feed or goal counter!
I am starting to believe in that conspiracy theory of "Frustration leads to Gemming these last requests" which by all means I did, but I am still fuming because I feel *****ed ! :(

Wow that was expensive ! Well maybe next time someone else can "take one for the team" lol. After u get your bakery all holiday items are gone. Polaris north adventure is gone also. I checked 5 cottages and did not get anymore hot chocolates either. Just FYI for all those collectors out there :)
