Once a dragon is retired, can you still breed it to get a current dragon or will you always get a fail?

If you are talking about a Expired dragon, when the dragon is removed from the game, you cannot breed it until TL added the dragon again to the game, what can happen is, if you are able to breed the limited dragon before he expires, it's yours, even if you are still breeding it but it's already expired.

Yes, you can breed using expired dragons. However, you cannot breed an expired dragon.

For example, the Carnival dragon is expired. You cannot breed it right now. But if you already have the Carnival dragon, you can use it as a breeding parent to obtain more current/new Blue and Yellow hybrids.

Hope that answered your question!
