It's just a daily bonus that's given (an extra nice little treat). I don't recall exactly how it's calculated.

I think it's related to how many tiles were watered on your land. I have earned the bonus every day that I've played (aside from the first day).

I think it is related also to your activity in watering other people's farms. The more active you are socially, the bigger the bonus. The highest bonus I got so far happened when I had 4 red stars and my farm was compllety watered. I was planting broccoli at the time.
