Items disappearing

I'm new to the game and twice now I've purchased items for the bakery (menu sign and a machine to build) that simply disappeared some time later. I didn't notice how long exactly it took before they were gone but I had played and seen them after the initial purchase. Am I doing something wrong? I looked and they aren't just stored. And I don't think it's fair I now have to save another 30,000 to replace them. Of course I've found a lot isn't fair on TL games but for some reason I play several.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you build the appliance and then stored it ?
