How can I update my original farm story to receive gifts and the other features? It doesn't show an update in the app store

Does the version number say 1.5? You need to download and install the original Farm Story app version 1.5. If you have an older version of the original, maybe you could delete and then download again.

If after installing the original farm story in order to get the update, do you loose your data if you then delete the farm story summer that you originally have. Thanks.

No your farm will still be as you left it.
