Keeping food?

What does the "keep the food" option actually do when you click on "manage" on a counter? I have chosen this option several times and hey presto!!!! NOTHING has happened? Can't anyone explain this please? Thank you :-)))

It means that you want to leave the food on that counter. If you press clear the counter all of your servings will be gone.
