It would be an improvement if there was a confirmation before spending gems. The fact that you get tricked in wasting gems is the sole reason i don't spend money on these type of games. I just accidentally bought 2 carrots for 40+ gems. I really like this game and would happily have spend some money to show my appreciation, but this just holds me back.
