Max # of appliances?

Hi all! I thought that you reach the maximum #of appliances at 18 but I just saw someone with 33 appliances!!!!!

You have to pay 49 gems for extra appliances past the limit of 18

I'm not sure why you can't add any more. Why device do you use?
