defensive troops?

some of the kingdoms I have attacked seem to have defensive troops that come out and **** all of my troops. I can't seem to find any where to indicate a kingdom has them before I attack and I don't know how to get them for my own kingdom. any hints?

they have an alliance portal, once you get one , you can join an alliance and request defense troops for your kingdom;)
