for each dye you will need a lot of petals
100 red, 50 yellow, 50 blue and 50 purple.

I had no idea where I get yellow petals from, but it takes orange petals to craft yellow ink.

There are no yellow petals. The yellow dye uses orange and white petals. Orange petals drop from the talinum auranticum (orange flower)flower, flowering bushes, flowing hedge, old logs, plant in log, tall grass, fern patch, Ivy's hut. Your best bet is the orange flower.
