Pile of Seeds & Fertilizer

Hallo, I've recently started receiving Pile of Seeds and Fertilizer as drops from the Conservatory and Ivy's Hut, amongst other things. What are they for and what do I do with them?

*sorry if this has already been posted, I've done a search but could not find the answer. I also could not find it in the game guide.*

I would expand upon the question, what do I do with the Pile of Seeds and Fertilizer prior to fully opening the greenhouse in the quest? At the rate I'm collecting them, I will be full by that time and I understand I need to collect new ones rather than use what is on my inventory.
