Dont stress. You can still play without gems. They are more of a luxury than a necessity. By planting and harvesting crops you will progress through crop mastery, from level 1 to 4. You will earn a gem during mastery, I think it is at the end of mastery level 2. It will take time, but you can earn gems this way.
