If you really want the diamond hybrids why not stick to the basic combo, all you'll need is patience and no need to worry about the additional fails.

Never use gold when going for ultra rares. The chances are too small, you will waste it almost every time. Ultra rares are about persistence and patience. I have sacrificed going for many limited and discontinued super rare dragons because I go for ultra rare almost exclusively. I only stop when something comes out that I can't miss, like skeleton.

I've been trying for Helios almost non stop for about a week.

Oh, I'm level 150 btw.
Anubis was easiest with Diamond/Peacock. All others were fails. I've also sold a few crusaders and golds off.
I tried for Mercury for about a week, then moved on to Helios. Next I'll probably try for Prism, then Unicorn. DA is tough, you get a lot of nasty fails.

Try breeding DA with Diamond and Night. You might get Anubis or Mercury as fails. That's how I got my second Anubis and my third and forth Mercury :)

I also was never able to breed one--I'm level 148. I saved up gold for about 8-9 months and about a month ago bought a Diamond. It was totally worth the wait--Diamond has been SO helpful in battles and tournaments, and I've managed to breed Quetzal, Crusader, Unicorn, Icicle, and Angel too. :)

Diamond - I had been trying for months to get Medusa using Mythic and Aurora and got my first Diamond (but still don't have Medusa)
Crusader - Took a few hours of breeding
Anubis - Wanted to tie up my breeding den for a long period of time since I wanted to leave my nests free to hatch Tournament dragons. Threw Night and Diamond in the den and got Anubis first try!
Quetzal - took about 4 hours of trying before I got it
Infinity - took a couple of days of trying off and on with Diamond and Quetzal (probably about 5-6 hours all told)

Those having problems with Quetzal or Crusader, sit in front of your computer, play a 40 minute video and just breed Diamond+Fire/Forest and just keep doing it for the entire duration of said video of your choice.

Similarly if you're trying for Infinity. Diamond+Quetzal/Crusader and just keep at it for 40 minutes of any video of your choice.

I got Diamond by "mistake", then got Crusader first attempt breeding it (gave me a somewhat faulty impression about breeding Ultra Rares lol) , after that i've tried to breed Quetzal a couple times but i get bored after too few attempts - i expect missing ones to pop up somehow sometime anyway so all is well! I'm probably at the ideal stage in game - missing almost half of the various dragon types makes breeding much more fun and rewarding since "fails" are fewer! :D

Crusader is easier to get than all the "rare" dragons they release. Just be prepared to sit through a bunch of ten second fire fails when breeding diamond and fire. I was trying for infinity and breeding that combo and got like 7 crusaders. I kept a couple and traded the rest.

And talking of patience and persistence, after months and months and months of trying, I just got the final piece needed to craft the Comet Dragon :) Why bother with this one? Well, after the Cornucopia and Phoenix Dragons, this is the highest, silver coin generating, non-ultra rare dragon; 4050 coins an hour once you get it to epic, more coins than some ultra rares.

Someone up-thread mentioned constantly breeding for the Ultra Rare. That's what I mostly do also. Figure even with LE dragons, I can find a 4-colour combination to work with where I might get either Diamond or the LE.

I'm a fairly new player and I just got my first Diamond on the first try! At least I think it's a diamond right now the dragon breeding time is 44 hours. I am so excited because I thought it would take me a hundred times to breed. I bred a level 10 firestorm with a level 7 island dragon. I also got a virtue dragon the first time when I bred a white and red together expecting I would get the common red/white dragon. I hope my list of ultra rare will grow. Right now In have been concentrating on common breeds so that I can trade them in for gems at the trading post so anything ingest right now that is not common is a bonus for me

Crusader? I wish that were true... I've been trying an hour a day, for over a week, and no crusader... 10 second fail, so you can count the times I tried.

After playing more than a year, lvl 150, having over 150 unique dragons and getting sick and tired of loosing too many battles in the Arena, and no Diamond ever bred, I bought the Diamond with real money, because I thought I would get Quetzal and Crusader rather easily.

Quetzal took me over a week and I only got it when the free boosted breeding was actieve, and up till now, no Crusader... I guess I have more luck in Castle Story: got all 3 eggs within 12 tries, while others don't even have 2 or 3 within 50 tries or more...

So, all those below lvl 150 and no Diamonds: I've been lvl 150 for quite a few months now, and I NEVER got a Diamond-dragon before I bought one.

I can get a little envious at all those pleople that have multiple Diamond and Diamond-hybrids.... it's SO hard for me...

I installed DS on my brothers iPad when I was over at his house, and now he's playing a little. He's lvl 32, and already has a Diamond, gotten as a fail. He has spent 3 weeks collecting the money for the habitat. If it wasn't so unfair I would laugh at it.

Gratz on the Diamond family members! As for getting Infinity, i hope you have better luck than i had - i bred Diamond/Quetzal over and over, again and again, and when i finally got something else than Forest it was another Quetzal, it made me lose interest in the project...:p

Very bad day today. very very bad day.

For the last few month, I almost everytime use my diamond for breeding, hoping for diamond hybrid. Today, I got one!
Time to get happy? Yes, maybe if I had used Deep Dragon for breeding, or Aether, or something else nice.
But I used DINO!
Green and red! The only Diamond hybrids, that are free to get anyway.
Furthermore this game took my 120 gold for speeding up an expansion, I dind not intend to. Just contacted TL, hope they can help.

Now that you have a Diamond and a Quetzal you could consider breeding them together trying for Infinity. The combo has two fails: 1) Forest (20 seconds) and 2) Quetzal. That's all very true :) I still can't get a Crusader though :( I have a Diamond, Quetzal, and a Anubis. I've been trying atleast once a week for two hours at a time for a Crusader but still none. I might just try for an Infinity tonight, instead of a Crusader. Hopefully I'll either get an Infinity or another Quetzal.

You're so lucky, I still can't get an Ice Age (I'm dying for the icicle though :() But I would try harder if I could display arctic dragons on the main island :(
