How do you lure Trolls?

I need more of the green stuff to complete the reindeer quest. Does anyone know how to lure them or make them pop up? Any help would be very appreciated!

I've had a lot of success triggering trolls by:
1) collecting from Royal Buildings
2) planting/harvesting cocoa and glimmerbulbs
3) collecting from red mushroom rings

#3 has the fastest recharge times. I have 12 rings lined up

For #2, I prefer cocoa since it only takes 3 hours to grow cocoa vs 8 hours for glimmerbulbs
