Dragon Story - Mining-56 expansions (IOS and ANDROID)

Hi Caretakers! We have just released Dragon Story 1.8 (https://itunes.apple.com/app/id513474544?mt=8&at=10l3QL&ct=forum)! With the new update, we have a new feature that allows MINING! Mining will allow you to craft a brand new Dragon and expand to never-before seen lands in the sky! Read on to see more about this new feature!


Brave the Mine for a chance to collect parts for exciting new Dragons!


The Mine is located on the northwest side of the main island in a rock wall to eligible leveled players. The Mine has two shafts visible once a player enters the mine. The left shaft unlocks at level 45 and contains Platinum Ingots. Collect enough of them, and you can craft the exclusive Platinum Dragon.

The right shaft of the Mine unlocks at level 80. Here, players can play the Mining mini-game to find Island Parts, which are used like Mystic Maps to expand on the brand new island to the northwest of the main island, near the Mine. Unlike the normal islands, this new island is built as you expand. At launch, there are 10 new expansions to be constructed.

But first you'll need the tools...

The tools you need to enter either mine shaft are collected like Dragon Summoning parts, from buildings. At level 45, Bombs will start dropping from the evolution temple. Bombs let you enter the mine for the Platinum Dragon. At 80, Dynamite will start dropping from the breeding den. Dynamite lets you enter the mine for Island Blocks.

The new island works just like the main island, once you've expanded, you can move old buildings or build new ones. The new island has been pre-cleared by elite Caretakers so there's no foliage!

It takes 1 Bomb or Dynamite to enter a mine. This gives you 12 moves in the mine. Each tap consumes 1 move. When you make a move, you will receive feedback: Too Far, Near, Very Close depending on your distance to a prize. If you get Very Close, tap around that spot to find your prize.

When you're running low on moves, you can exchange Gold for more without leaving your current mining game. Two refills are allowed, and then you have to start a new mining game.

Android Players!!! The wait is over!! With the latest Valentine Version it goes to expand with the mining parts!

I accidentally (on my sleepy mode) clicked on the expand button and uttered some very unsuitable words for 5 minutes...but than to my sheer releif and joy, found that the mine was still open...I have expanded 11 squares with my saved 1015 parts...waiting to get some more dynamit...

KP- To keep mining for food, make sure you leave the very last expansion open. Once you complete the last expansion, your mine will close and you can no longer mine for food.

We have 40 expansions, 2 groups of 20. The first group has green trees and the second one has blue trees.

No, as its a beta test they will see how the test ... They generally don't give time frames for the general release of test features

I have the mine and appreciate being able to try the new game option. Thank you for the detailed instructions included with the post. I had no issues going into the mine and understanding what to do and what was expected.

I've had no problems with crashing since the release, but for the last week the game has been restarting and reprocessing a lot, on it's own. I wondered if some big update was going on (and now I know) as this behavior seemed unusual and hope that it's fixed soon.

So far I think the mine is a great addition to the game. I also really like the bonus items like food or coin you get from each trip to the mine. It's a good concept and fun to play, but I do have a couple of issues or concerns. I'm maxed on habitats (60/60) and this has been a consistent issue for months now. I've sold dragons, max upgraded several habitats, and even sold diamond habitats to try and keep up, but with all the new dragon types that have been churned out this year, I can't get ahead and seem to stay at the habitat max. :( Selling profitable dragons and habitats reduces income and we need income to plant food, food is needed for evolution.

To my point about the new mine, we have to evolve dragons to get the crafting bombs. I sell about 99% of my dragons because I have no habitats to be able to keep them, evolve them and eventually trade them. If you have no room to house low level (1-3) dragons which are cheaper to evolve, you have to evolve dragons you already have and the higher level the dragon the more food is required to level it up to evolve. I have plenty of mid level dragons that need to be evolved, but the cost of feeding them all in a quick and efficient fashion is not doable. If I had a few more habitats I could keep and evolve baby dragons to be able to get bombs for the mine.

I hope that this feature will not have a 10 day timer added as 200 items to craft the Platinum dragon is quite a bit and I've only managed to get a few bombs so far and only have 6 ingots so at that rate I'd only have 60 ingots in ten days.

Also I didn't get the option to continue with my current mine search when I bought more moves. I selected the gold option when I ran out of moves, I think it was 8 gold, and a new mine area appeared, none of my prior moves were there, so I had to start completely over. I also don't think it was 12 additional moves which I should have received if the mine was started over again. I'll have to count next time and repost, as I wasn't careful in taking note, I just know it wasn't 12.

Could you also add the ability to see exactly how many ingots are collected or how many are remaining to be collected? Same for the land expansion. It's hard to tell from a slider gauge just how much has been collected and what remains. Even showing a percentage would be helpful. You can only see your actual count if you collect an item from the mine.

Other than these issues, I love this new feature. :)

I agree. In my game I don't have an evolution from 3 to 4. Normally this is a definite asset, but if I were in the beta test (and I'm not--maybe this is partly why), it would definitely be a liability. Many of the dragons are outrageously expensive to feed. I actually rarely have any dragons in my evolution temple because it takes soooo long to get most of the dragons to epic. Usually I just feed/evolve to 7 and then choose which ones I think are most valuable in the arena to raise to epic, but even of those, a lot don't make it past 8 or 9 because of how much food it takes. So if I were in the test, I'd be getting almost no bombs, unless I wanted to waste a TON of food on evolving dragons I didn't plan to keep.

It's a good feature, not as easy as just adding a new isle or getting land the old fashioned way, more gold the merrier I guess, yet I've finished expanding a while ago do anything to get new habitats without a great remodeling works for me, at the moment. Maybe I'll come to like it better in the future.

If you transfer from iOS to Android and you have mining, your 1.8 expansion will be the blue background with your items floating awkwardly on top of nothing. If at some point, you were on Android and you received the exclusive decorations and transferred to iOS, you'll experience something like this image, where you can put the decoration on your board.

However, due to the incompatible nature of these two versions, I wouldn't advise switching around like that with a beta feature to avoid experiencing any weirdness or unpredictable breaky things with your game.

I agree, I like the mine feature as well. One thing that I'd like to see changed is the cancellation options. Sometimes I enter the mine unintentionally, change my mind and/or can't play right then, but if you cancel you lose all your moves even if you haven't started. I agree, once I've made a move, then fine if I cancel, I forfeit, but if no moves are made the lose all option seems unreasonable. If you haven't be*** the search you should be able to exit and not lose your bomb.

I've noticed a few stability issues, with things getting stuck or not counting, but I didn't even have time to complain yesterday as they seem to have been resolved quickly and I've noticed no game issues today.

No one has complained about visiting my island so far and I've expanded twice on the new island, but I can see where players with older devices that may not have current iOS could have issues visiting. I had problems visiting most higher level players on my old device especially if they were fully expanded.

I really like the ability to win food. With the 12k food requirement for all new dragons to get to epic from level 9 it has really dragged for me...but this helps me out a lot. Makes the whole game more fun.

I have noticed since this update my game has crashed quite a bit. At least a few times every time I play. It's not terribly disruptive, but it's significantly more than it's ever crashed on me before. And when it crashes during the actual mining, I lose the rest of my turns for that round.

I like everything about the beta version except that there have been no sales on gold since it was released. At least for me! I'm now up to over 500 fails trying to get holiday dragons. I'm through buying gold when it is not on sale and I'm through with trying for the impossible holiday dragons!!!! The games inside the cave are boring but at least we can get food from it. I've gotten 7 land expansions so far and have 83/200 toward getting the new dragon. At least I'll have it!!! But I sure would have loved to have had some of the holiday dragons!!!

Looks like that is the only dragon you can mine for at this stage.
That is looking at the mining goal the Platinum is still there.
I was hoping that there maybe another Metal type available, e.g. Steampunk and/or Magnetic... oh well.

I agree, things have really been difficult to breed. I'm sure that something has been changed in the game.
I've been so desperate I end up using Boosted Breeding... when they introduced this I decided there was no way I'd use this. I end up getting the Gingerbread and Gadget within a couple of goes using this. Maybe pure luck... which has been in short supply for me lately or maybe this has been tweaked to be better. And normal breeding being nurfed.
As I said, I only used this in frustration, so I cannot say it makes a difference. This isn't enough of a sample to know for sure.

My only complaint is that since getting the beta version I have not had a gold sale and I have not been able to breed any new dragons. I had over 500 fails trying to get any of the holiday dragons and only got Santa which I got before the upgrade. Gold was on sale when I downloaded the upgrade and it was gone when the upgrade loaded. I can't afford gold when it is not on sale so I guess I'll not be playing much. And now the New Years dragons and lots back that were out before I began to play. I can't get them either since gold is too expensive. It is really frustrating since the beta version is a great add on and good way to get food. But without any new dragons breeding and no gold to buy them with then I don't need as much food. So it's a Catch-22! Beta version or gold and dragons?

on my game that has the beta I have a gold sale and no gold sale on the game that hasn't, so i think it's just coincidence that you lost the gold sale when you got the beta version.

I agree. In my game I don't have an evolution from 3 to 4. Normally this is a definite asset, but if I were in the beta test (and I'm not--maybe this is partly why), it would definitely be a liability. Many of the dragons are outrageously expensive to feed. I actually rarely have any dragons in my evolution temple because it takes soooo long to get most of the dragons to epic. Usually I just feed/evolve to 7 and then choose which ones I think are most valuable in the arena to raise to epic, but even of those, a lot don't make it past 8 or 9 because of how much food it takes. So if I were in the test, I'd be getting almost no bombs, unless I wanted to waste a TON of food on evolving dragons I didn't plan to keep.

Maybe they might use this new feature as an incentive to switch everyone across to evolutions between 3/4. It at least gives you something (extra bombs etc) for taking the perk away, but I would feel mixed about this. I know I will be working on expanding pretty hard since I'm running out of space already (3 habitats short of the current cap) and I won't sacrifice my decorations. You're right though, that without this we long time players would struggle. I wouldn't mind feeding dragons to Lvl 4 to get bombs (currently do this for trading portal), but if I have to waste a whole lot of food to raise dragons to Lvl7 just for a bomb, I will get frustrated very quickly. I too am finding it hard to farm enough food to level up my dragons (between summonings). I used to have an island with almost all epics (except for a few babies too cute to level up), but now it's a hodge podge of all levels with many of my newer dragons getting only up to Lvl 9 (for Arena). I am currently going through a very strict screening process on which of my dragons gets to go Epic next :)

If you breed normally you can get the rare or super rare which tend to yield more bombs and dynamite. I don't think buying the cheapies will work. For an older player, I agree and see that the expansion aspect of this feature would be the most benefit. You make some good points and hopefully TL will take note so that all players, new, old, etc. can take advantage of the mine and enjoy it.

I've been playing a year, but due to the influx of new dragons had plenty to evolve, if not 3-4, from 6-7. I'm close to getting the platinum so I hope they don't end beta and remove it before we can finish. 200 was a high number to achieve considering the drop rates. I only used gold to buy 1 new play at the mine, but have used it to speed breeding and evolving. I do this occasionally anyway so it's nice to essentially get a reward for it. Takes the sting out of using it, as it's a precious commodity. :D

I'm sorry that happened, and it's probably a glitch so it's good you reported it.

I don't think that's happening with my system as I already had a regular expansion in process and collected beyond the minimum stones for the first mine expansion. When I was able to expand I believe it only subtracted the amount of stones for the first expansion I don't recalling starting at zero for the next expansion. I have the exact same scenario in process again now and I'll double check the stone count and report back. Unfortunately it will take 3 days for that first expansion to finish. :(

I love that on the new island expansion is instant and there's no clearing. Wish we could have shorter expansion times on regular islands and lower cost clearing. It's a bit outrageous. :rolleyes:

Thanks for letting us know! I have an expansion in progress and will be able to do my 3rd mining expansion once that is done.. But now I have about 64 pieces, so I guess those 4 pieces will go to waste?

You may be ok. I've since expanded again and have one piece left over in storage afterwards so maybe it was a one time glitch. I'll find out when I start it mine again I guess. Hope that your extras are still there for you when you do get to expand on it again.

Please, a question for the developers. I am continuing to collect bombs from evolutions, but already have the platinum dragon, so haven't used them in the mine. I don't want to keep collecting the bombs if once the feature is fully released they will be deleted or replaced with something else. Should I save these or go ahead and mine for the benefit of the coin and food bonuses so the bombs won't go to waste?

I also like that you can get bonus items from mining that is a nice perk and I hope it stays that way! But...the next one is 42 pieces needed from mining! My mouth literally fell open. It's just not a normal or fair jump in my eyes. The coin jump is expected. I mean mining is touch and go you never know if you will be lucky or get nothing from it.... So i felt that I had to share my concerns. Hopefully that's what the test group is for right?! To see how well it goes, how we like it, our feedback etc. Right???!

p.s. just mined and got nada lol so...like i said hit and miss!

I agree that it's a big jump, but I think it might be necessary. If it only takes a few weeks to fully expand, the mine will get old quickly and will never be used. It takes a long time, but I kind of like having a long term goal to be working towards and I alternate between expanding there and on my main islands.

I've been having no luck at all with breeding since the update. I don't think I've gotten even one new dragon since I updated. I have even used boosted breeding several times. Before the update I had been having fairly good luck w boosted breeding and thought they had tweaked it a bit to make it worth the gold. But I guess not.

I'm not in the beta but if there is no habitat increase I guess it doesn't make much difference as I'm already at my limit. This habitat limit is really getting frustrating. Hasn't been raised in ages. Any dragons I get through tournaments or item collecting have to just sit in my inventory. I think I now have four or five in there so even if we get a habitat increase it will be taken up immediately or I'll just have to leave them in inventory.

Also as a long time player (lv.149) with most dragons at lv. 7-10 & no room for new dragons I will probably have a really hard time getting anywhere with the new expansions if it relies partly on evolving dragons. Teamlava, it doesn't make any sense to punish the people who have been playing the longest! I was enjoying this game again for a while when we were actually getting occasional habitat increases & the new breedable dragons were actually possible to get. But now I'm getting back to feeling extremely frustrated & thinking of quitting if something doesn't change.

I almost done with my 4th expansion. I average 2 rocks per round, sometimes 3. I don't have a trick, but I've noticed "very close" means one space away from the rock and "near" means 2 spaces away. So if you get a near, don't click next to the space- I always randomly pick a spot 2 spaces away and see where to go from there. I sometimes use gold to speed breed, but never to refill the mine. When I was going for gingerbread, there were a lot of short fail times that still gave dynamite.

I'm confused about this because I just reached level 45 and I'm receiving bombs from the evolution temple and a mining quest, but I can't see anything that looks like a mind or additional island in the game. Have you updated to the latest version? The mine is on a ledge to the left and below the top island.

I'm not completely sure my game is updated, my phone is set to update apps automatically. The latest update was 12.28.2013 though. I'm guessing it's the newest just because I'd be surprised to see multiple updates in a week, but maybe I'm wrong. I forced closed the app, too. I'm just not sure if the bombs mean I'm in the beta and something's up or if everyone is getting them. Maybe I'll delete and reinstall and see if anything changes.

I just went in to collect before reinstalling and the mine has appeared in the cliff! It definitely wasn't there before, so I'm glad I'm not crazy and whatever glitch caused the problem is fixed now. I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes!

I love this feature! I have been able to expand 6 times and half way to my 7th and I have just finished hatching the Platinum dragon. My favorite thing about this is the amount of food you can get for each hit. I have been able to evolve so many dragons to epic. I hope TL keeps this feature.

I'm sorry this is happening to you Danni. I haven't had any crashing issues as of late, it restarts occasionally, but not when I'm in the Mine. I usually collect all my coins, make a visit or two and leave mining for last, so far no issues.

Thanks for the comments, midnightmeerkat and jaesha. Mine hasn't crashed at all today. It used to be way worse, but now it's just occasional. I wonder if I might be clicking too fast �� or have too many other apps open. I try to force close when I am not using an app, so I will see if that helps.

My game crashes on occasion, but it's not so bad. I have enough for platinum, but can't craft because it's immortal's turn first! I love this new feature...it is the best update since the game itself came out.

I'm doing pretty well in terms of crafting/mining/summoning, but my breeding is terrible. Oh well.

Me and some of my neighbors don't have this beta test mining game but we've discovered an invisible floating island we can put stuff on (habitat, castle, nest etc) It's in the same place as this new expansion. I'm curious if this means we'll all get the mining game soon? Can't find any reference to it on the forum.

I have it too! So funny. A neighbor mentioned it and it's a bit further down from the mining area - closer to the arctic balloon. Just compared the location with a neighbor that has the beta mining feature. I put dragons there that I won't miss if this turns out to be a bug (bye bye island, fuzzy and poison!). :)

I have expanded 10 times and it has now locked me out of the "Mine for Land" portion. I still get dynamite, but I cannot do anything with it. For those people who want to keep mining for the 1000 food reward, just don't expand the 10th time and you should not get locked out. I can still mine for dragon parts despite the fact that I already have one, but I only get a 500 food reward.

Yea I got the same thing, it seems that once we've crafted 1 Platinum dragon, even though it still lets you mine for parts, it only gives you 500 food, rather than the 1000 food before you craft 1 Platinum dragon

I don't know if this is true, it seems like the drops may not be consistent, some low, some high, but I've received 1000 & 2000 food bonuses post platinum. Just keep going you'll notice increases and decreases, but makes sense they would keep it random or inconsistent. The 1000 & 2000 bonuses are not awarded with every trip to the mine.

Is this beginning to roll out? I've noticed a couple of neighbors are showing new islands, but did not have the feature at beta release. If so that's great news! Can the Mods get any confirmation?

Also some, many are putting habitats on the invisible island. I have that invisible island too, but hesitate putting anything there. If this mining/expansion feature is improved and rolled out game wide that glitch might be fixed. What happens to the items that are placed there as this isn't an official expansion area? I would hate for my habitats to disappear without warning because they were placed in an area created by a glitch in the game. :(

Does anyone know if they are going to continue with the mining by adding another new dragon to dig for? I am only asking because I think this is a great feature I love the mining it's like a mini game inside the game and the food bonuses are an awesome addition since the newer dragon need so much food to evolve this is a big help and greatly appreciated.

Artic Isle is boring ! But I guess they have many constraints with the present habitats, mainly because too many dragons and not enough habitats and space.

I'm not playing DS nearly as much as I used to, because I can't even open the game and collect coins from all of my habitats without it crashing. Unfortunately, the mining is even worse- of the last 6 times I tried to mine, 4 times the game crashed, causing me to lose not only the bomb or dynamite that I'd used to enter the mine, but any objects/prizes that I had found. I'm not going to be mining any more until my game stops crashing so much.

I had uninstalled and reinstalled the game this morning but nothing happened and then suddenly there it was.

Does that mean it has been released to everyone or that I was in the beta group once I reinstalled the game?

it is interesting, a friend of mine from work who also plays said she saw the mine on my island but I couldn't see it so I thought she saw it because she was part of the beta test group (two real life friends had mining before I got it).

in reading on wiki, you get moves through the evolution temple so I guess the more you evolve dragons the more moves you get.

Once you put and egg on nest after breeding you get for expansions

Good to know...But for those that have all evolved dragons??? I suppose there is breeding new dragons...assuming you actually hatch them and not just toss them because you've got the same dragon 15 times in a row while trying for one of the new dragons (like Aquarius)???

So far I've had no problems that I've noticed. Nothing like trouble visiting or crashing or anything like that. I like it, the only thing I can complain about is the blah colour of the expansions lol :D

Just got the mine expansion too!! Yay, I can finally evolve my dragons again. I saved up about 350K of food so this is going to be fun for the next few weeks! I wonder if I'll have to evolve to get to level 4 now... it wouldn't be so bad if I was getting bombs or dynamite.

The game never crashed on me before I got the beta test, but now, it's crashing every 10-15 seconds or so. It is generally worse if I want to plant crops (it will usually crash at least twice every time I try to plant crops on my 6 farms) or do quests (I've completely given up on them- every time I touch the quest outpost, the game crashes). Unfortunately, with this tournament, the battle arena also seems to cause crashing pretty frequently, and I am completely unable to mine. I've tried mining a couple of times in the last few days, and on the rare occasions it lets me enter the mine without crashing immediately, it usually crashes after I throw my first stick of dynamite. Sometimes, the game crashes on its own, when I'm not even touching anything.

Any word from TL on why this is happening/how to prevent it/if they're working on it?

Yeah. I had seen others complaining of crashing when the beta test first rolled out, but it seems like many players have seen the crashing problems disappear. Mine have been fairly steadily getting worse- and I'm with you, I think that it's just putting too much stress on the system to load and render everything.

Quick Question, are you blocked out of the expansion part of the mine? Someone mentioned this occurring in an earlier post after they expanded to the 10th spot.
