Why is it when I tried to retrieve one of my Dragon Statues from storage, I have lost 60 Gems? Surely I've already paid for these initially and I don't need to pay again?

My guess is that you were really in the market when you thought you were in storage and bought another one

But that would then show an additional item in my inventory surely.

If you did purchase a second one, then you would have two either in storage or in your kingdom.
Try restarting your device.
If you still do not have two, then send an email to support@teamlava.com so they can check your game to find out what happened with your gems.

Well I emailed when this first happened, and still no response and still no return of my stolen gems.
