I'd use both. Expanding with just coins or gems is pointless to onlu earn 1 extra row of tiles. When I expand, I double up using both coins n gems. Makes the expansion much more significant thus worthwhile. :)

Coins only!!! Coins u can always earn. There's a poll somewhere here about what method ppl prefer. 1 million coins is not big in comparison to 60 million, which is where I'm at STILL lol.

1 extra tile all around is actually significant...veryyyy significant. If u have a n x n size bakery, u get 2n+1. As your bakery gets bigger, each expansion is more. Example: 10x10->21 new tiles vs 20x20->41 new tiles. I know those are not real expansion sizes but I'm too lazy to check. It does make sense to spend coins...well, at least in the beginning. Later expansions are really annoying.

Speaking of expansions, we need more than the ones they provide. My stored decors are now overflowing. My bakery needs a second floor!!! Why can't we have what ds has, a button that transports us to another island...or bakery in this case.

what else to use these coins on? theres not much coin stuff so i never hesitate do dump all the coins on an expansion, if it leaves 500k or so it'd be enough for a goal or if something comes up. my next is 10M.
and gems have better uses.
