My Valkyrie Dragon is level 7 and he sucks in normal battle arena but during tournaments he's beast. So Is the champion type only in effect for Tourneys or do i just have bad luck??

It really depends on who your Champion is up against.
Typically, he has a 35% chance of making a critical hit in 3 moves.
But, you could be up against a lot of dragons in the Tournament where he has a higher chance of success. Sometimes I see him listed as 55% chance of success and higher.

Nope it makes no difference. I used my epic ninja and valkryie in normal and Tourneys and their performance are both equally good. You have to realise in normal battles your opponents are 10-15 (average of level 12-13) while in tourneys round 24 and below most of opponents are level15 and below. In fact the 1st 20 rounds you will face opponents less than level 12!
