What do the leaves mean????

Ok, so obviously I am new to this game (currently on level 9). I know that when you plow, plant and gather your crops, you get these things (depending on what the crop is)

Coin symbol = cash
Star symbol = Experiance
Leaf symbol = .... what does this mean and what purpose does it serve???

Hi for each crop u harvest u earn a leaf as u earn more u master that crop. Look at the crop icon in store to see your progression. There are 4 levels for each crop. A prize for each level completed. Note. Each level is harder to master. As in more times u need to plant and harvest. Level 2 gives u a gem. Have fun
