Money Problems

Hello all. I have been playing this game for a couple of days now and well my problem is the money.

I sell out of all my items and basically make no money off them. Why is this? Does it happen to everyone? How can I make more money?

for now the easiest way is to add 20 neighbors and receive gifts..
as you level up, more and better clothes will become available, that would sell for a decent price.
