Expansion Overview: Introduction to the Arctic Isles! [iOS]

It's going to be a cold, cold August

Welcome to the Arctic Isles, Caretakers! The expansion update is live: a new island, dozens of exclusive dragons, new features, quests, and one enormous dragon to awaken from his icy slumber! Update now and check out my overview of all the new features!



1. Unlocking the Arctic Isles, and the Arctic Airship

Players levels 35 and higher can unlock the Arctic Isles by breeding an Ice Age Dragon! Once the breeding has finished, you'll be prompted by Freza (a new character!) to jump aboard the Arctic Airship to take the frozen egg to the new world for incubation! Breeding an Ice Age dragon isn't too tough, just combine a purple colored dragon with a Winter Dragon and see what happens!

The Arctic Airship is your ticket back and forth between the Dragon Isles and the Arctic Isles. Once you've unlocked the new world, you can always click on the airship and travel from one world to the next!



2. Glacius, the Ancient

Frozen atop the Arctic Isles, Glacius the Ancient awaits Caretakers who have proven their worth in this cold and magical new world. Collect 9 unique dragons from the Arctic Isles and evolve them to level 10 to awaken him!

Collecting the dragons and earning Glacius the Ancient works just like an award in the Album. You can track your progress by clicking on Glacius, and once you've completed the objective simply click "Awaken" and watch him burst free from the ice!

Glacius doesn't produce coins, you don't have to feed or evolve him, and he can't breed or be traded. He is the ultimate achievement in Dragon Story!

3. New Dragon Types

There are three new dragon types in the Arctic Island: Ice Age Dragons, Blizzard Dragons, and Abominable Dragons. We are releasing three dragons in each type at the launch of the Arctic Isles expansion, but more dragons are coming to join their friends in each of the new habitats.

Unlike dragons from the Dragon Isle's, Arctic Isle dragons produce special parts instead of coins. Each type produces a unique part, and these parts are essential to Caretaker success in the new world. These parts can be crafted into the egg-warming Mystic Flames!

4. Mystic Flames and the Frozen Nest

In this cold world, dragon eggs need extra warmth to incubate before they can be hatched. Instead of just waiting for a timer to run down, players can now manually warm frozen eggs with Mystic Flames to hatch them much faster than ever before.

Since eggs are bred frozen in the Arctic Isles, you won't see which dragon egg you've bred until you've warmed it most of the way to hatching, but you'll see a little baby peek out along the way!

Mystic Flames is a new currency that can be crafted at a new building called the Fire Mill. This building works just like the Dragon Isle's Spell Shop; you collect parts and combine them together to make something new.

Like growing food, crafting Mystic Fire can be done in small, fast, cheap batches, or larger, slower, more expensive batches. Parts produced by Ice Age dragons, which are called Ancient Oil, are the easiest to obtain and are thus required for the easiest Mystic Fire recipes. Since Abominable type dragons require Ice Age dragons to discover, their parts, Flammable Fur, are harder to come by, and are required in the more efficient recipes for crafting Mystic Flames.



5. Silos

We've introduced 2 storage-like silo buildings with the Arctic Isles: the Fire Crucible and the Silo. The Fire Crucible stores your collection of Mystic Flames, while the Silo stores the ingredients you collect from your new dragons. Each of these buildings has a maximum capacity that can be raised by upgrading the building. You can check in the Silo to see how many of each part you've collected so far!

6. Breeding

While it's too cold here for dragons from your original island to be comfortable, they can fly over for a quick stop in the Breeding Den. A few of the dragons in the Arctic Isles require a color from the original island to be bred. Dragons from those islands appear in one of the columns when you're selecting dragons to breed. As soon as breeding is finished however, dragons will return to their habitats on their home islands.



7. Frozen Food

Arctic Isle dragons eat Arctic Isle food, and you can grow it in the Frozen Farm and Large Frozen Farm. Feed your chilly dragons Abominapples and Spicicles and watch them grow! Your food total displayed on the top of your screen will only display food from the island you're currently viewing. Coins and Gold work across all your islands though, so those numbers will always be the same!

The Arctic Isles are very limited. You can only have 2 of each habitat, each of which only holds 3 dragons, so 3 types of habitats x 2 of each = 6 habitats x 3 dragons each = 18 dragons. And there are exactly 18 types of Arctic dragons, so you can only have 1 of each at the end. You can have up to 6 of one type right now if you have 2 habitats. Before I "completed" the Isles, i would hatch the duplicates that I had room for so that they could at least earn ancient oil or flammable fur or whatever the other one is, but I had to sell them off as I hatched more and more dragons. It took me forever to get the diamond hybrids, though, so I always had room for at least a couple duplicates up until I finished.

Ok here is a pic of my ice isle  I am having problems with the manual flam warmer. It won't let me manually feed it flames and it shows 99,9999 flames available and 99,999 gold? Any idea how this works?

I dont think so it specifically said winter so im guessing it has to be a winter since this is a brand new portal to another isle! I like the idea of having to have a specific dragon not just colors:)

You can breed your dragons with what ever dragon you have in the new ice age portal, but I think they have to work out a few bugs, cuz my egg won't hatch 

It's very specific about what you need to breed. For a meteor dragon for example, it tells you to use ice and firestorm.

I wish I'd seen this before I wasted 16 gold on a 30 second dragon.

I'm having problems with the new update. I managed to breed the new ice dragon and go to the new ice age isle, started to breed for the new dragon but when I tried to hatch the egg it's stuck, then the application shut down and won't reopen. I've closed down the app and opened again, turned my phone on and off, even deleted the app and reinstalled it again but nothing worked. Can someone please help out.

Thanks, It did work and now egg is gone, but now when I go to album or dragons or storage and decorations it shows nothing? How am I suppose to know what dragons to try for? The first expansion needed 8 maps, from the ones we already had and cost 1,000,000 I think. It takes 8 hours. Ill post what's there when its finished.

There is the main island and a smaller one. I think as we expand into more plots it will take more maps. The problem now is both island competing for maps! I just did the second new one on the regular isles. I'm just happy I didn't have to request anything. And think gosh for the 20 million I had. Things are so expensive. I'm out of space too. Haven had that problem in a very long time.

Ok so guys, I'm an iOS user, but this iOS only platform is getting out of hand. I know this post probably belongs somewhere else but its really really unfair. Where I appreciate new dragons, new island, battle arena etc. etc. the time they spend giving iOS new content the least they could have done was given Droid users the battle arena, spell shop, etc. I feel like the only reason they came out with the gemstone dragon was because they have no intention on ever implementing these features for Droid users. It's not cool..... I've said it before but I mean it this time. I will not be buying anymore gold. For all that they should have made it an iOS only game like their Bingo game.

There is a dedicated breeding den in the arctic, and you can breed on both islands at once. A normal dragon can breed with an arctic dragon on the arctic island, but arctic dragons can't breed on the main island.

I have a problem! When I craft a Smolder of Mystic Flames it will go to processing and then it will not be crafting (lost) and the Flammable Furs are gone. I tried this 3 times with the same results. It seems to work on my 2ndary account.

You're telling me?! I had 20 million and am down to just about 12 million. The food costs are insane. 41,000 for 120 food. Yeah it's just three minutes but they're ****ing me. TL fixed my first frozen egg that was stuck, they got rid of it but where did my dragon go? I know have another egg from ice n fire that is stuck again? I can't hatch it, same problem. Don't just delete my eggs give me my baby dragons  I used gold to speed the breeding so it's not free! Can someone really fix my isle? TL was working on it for 3 hrs and nothing has changed  the problems are still occurring.

So I bred winter and magic at 7 this morn, got 12hrs with 12 to speed, so I assumed another winter. I only had a few gold so I waited till early this arvo and sped a 5 gold remaining and bam - ice age dragon!! Weird!

Got to the new area a couple of hours ago. So far my feelings are kind of mixed. Excited to have a new area & new dragons, but the cost of food is ridiculous. Also was not happy to see that after one upgrade of the silo & crucible you have to use gold to upgrade farther. And my least favorite part of the update is that all the new dragons seem to cost double the gold to speed up. Not cool TL. I guarantee I won't be using nearly as much gold to speed up in the new area as I do now in the original area.

Do you mean to get to the arctic area or after you are there? To get there you would only need silver to breed an Ice Age dragon. Once you are there you will need silver to breed, grow food, buy habitats, expand. Just like in the original area. Stuff is pretty expensive in the new area so you will definitely need some silver once you get there.

TL fixed my first frozen egg that was stuck, they got rid of it but where did my dragon go? I know have another egg from ice n fire that is stuck again? I can't hatch it, same problem. Don't just delete my eggs give me my baby dragons  I used gold to speed the breeding so it's not free! Can someone really fix my isle? TL was working on it for 3 hrs and nothing has changed  the problems are still occurring.
same problem for me.another egg I can not hatch or sell.I can not collect my habitat it says I am max level but I can't craft it says max reached.the game proposes me to upgrade my silo but when I try to do it nothing happens.I have many problems with my new isle , my breeding den will be ready in a few moment but my nest is busy with that egg I can't hath or sell.please can somebody try to fix that for me? thanks

This may just be coincidence, but my breeding den was sparkling when I finally bred alpine. Don't know what the sparkles are about, they keep moving around my island, but they happened to be on the breeding den when my luck turned. Weird.

Go back by tapping the ice blimp and then down in the right bottom corner should be a purple swirly thing, press it and it should take you back to your normal island :)

my egg is still stuck in the nest,I am still at the max limit in my silo but I can't upgrade it,I still can not collect from my habitat because I am maxed out,impossible to craft,my breeding den is ready but my nest still occupied by this stuck egg,so I can not play anymore on the new ice isle because of too many bugs since yesterday.of course I have closed my game,closed my iPad,I have also deleted the game and downloaded it again,but still the same bugs.can somebody fix it or answer me please? thank you.

Has anyone noticed if by upgrading, anything else in the original game changed? Such as food requirements to feed existing dragons to epic? Gold costs to speed up breedings or anything like that? I hesitate to upgrade until I know what "other" changes are getting slipped in.

I updated last night. Nothing on the original island changed. But, it is double gold to speed breed the new dragons on the new island. But that is the only thing I see that is different so far. But, I really haven't done too much. It is very time consuming going from island to island.

I have a problem! When I craft a Smolder of Mystic Flames it will go to processing and then it will not be crafting (lost) and the Flammable Furs are gone. I tried this 3 times with the same results. It seems to work on my 2ndary account.

This update is great! An awesome way to get around the crowding on the main island and a nice way to keep things fresh. I'm looking forward to more dragon isles in the future :)

I now have the battle arena, quests, boosted breeding, etc. And FINALLY we are rid of that eye-crossing PINK. BUT - I am NOT pleased with the gold trap at finding out how long an egg takes to hatch! Argh! My other beef? I liked viewing my islands in PORTRAIT view. Landscape makes it too large to properly view the islands. In landscape, itis TOO large to properly see. Give me back my portrait view!!!!

Well, I hate to be a nag about a seemingly simple problem, but I HATE HATE HATE the fact that I cannot pinch and reduce the size of my island. It makes my head spin to have to scroll all over the place just to see PART of my island(s). PLEASE, bring back the ability to pinch OUT and make more visible at a time. This present mode could be find for a level 10, but NOT anything over level 100!!!! Argh!!!!

Mine is actually the Flare of Mystic flames that it keeps resetting on so I'm losing 140 furs & 50 oils each time, but at least it's not stuck on a dragon as well .. Poor you momohuny! I can at least get on with crafting dragons, hope they get it sorted for you

I've tried deleting and downloading the app but that didn't work, so guess I'll flag it with support even though it's only a minor glitch so at least they're aware.

My crafting with the fur seems to reset(but I don't lose the fur),annoying.i even have to re collect from habitat,re click in craft building,then after bout 30 seconds,it resets to where the fur is ready to collect in habitat!please fix these bugs!

so guys... for example: when you breed ice age + firestorm for the meteor dragon... what are the possible outcomes? does ice age split into white/blue/purple? i'm so confused, i don't get the breeding rules at all :(

I'm a little confused myself lol. I bred Ice Age + Firestorm and got a Meteor. I was pretty sure I got it I had 8 hrs 16 gold to speed up. But many other players said they have had 12 hr breedings for each dragon. Now I'm going for Abominable, used Ice age + Fuzzy got another 8hrs and 16 gold to speed up. So are there two dif possibilities either you got the 12 hr breedings or the 8 hr breedings? I would like if someone could post a complete or partial list of times, cost to speed, flames for hatching etc... Thanks guys we are the ones who figure this stuff out together:D
