When I reach a new level I can't cook the unlocked dishes

When i reach a new level it says you have reached level 9 for example and says you have unlocked cupcakes etc but I can't see these items on the menu where do they go and how can I cook them?

I think you have to buy different types of cooking apparatuses to cook certain things. The basic cooking appliance you get to begin with can only be used to cook certain things.
