Kind of.
I mean an SUV would cost very much money
If you're new you should go with the small car
But if you're a tall person
I suggest a SUV
But at least try fitting in the small car

Are you paying for the car? If you are, then I think you should have some say in it. If you're not, be happy someone is buying you a car.

And by some, I do mean some, not all. Experience is a great teacher. My son was recently given a car, and he's only 13! But, he gets to spend the next 3 years building the car (it's pretty much only a frame), so he will learn everything about it. Hubby and a friend are helping him, and paying for most of the things. So if it breaks down, my son will be able to fix it (hopefully lol), not always take it somewhere to pay someone else to do it.

Also, learning to drive can be hard. Try picturing yourself being 4 feet wide, 8 feet long, and 4 feet high (just guesstimates for a smaller car), and running at 50 miles per hour. You have to keep an eye on every angle, make sure you stay straight, in your lane, etc. Then, you also have to keep an eye on everyone else. I learned to drive an small 4 door type cars, I've been driving longer then I'm willing to admit right now ;), but I've driven small two door cars, up to the 14 person vans. Learning on something small I think is better - you learn the basics first, then you can move up to larger vehicles.

I'm actually turning 22 and its a LONG Time I've been waiting to drive I've drove once before a Little car I think I did great. I also Think That if you start in a big car you'll know how to drive a Little car better, but just my opinion though. UGH idk I Really want the car. Mabey I shouldn't get a car at all and just wait till I'm in my 90s to be taught how to drive lol yeah that might just end up happening.

If you don't want the little car, maybe you should tell your dad not to get you one. It sounds like you won't be happy with it, so why waste his money.

Then you can get a job, save up for the car that you really want (there will be more used Range Rovers for sale in the future), save up for car insurance, and buy the car that you really want and will make you happy. Continue working, because the car will need gas, oil changes every 3 months, registration every year, smog checks every other year, other maintenance and unforseen repairs, and you'll continue to need car insurance as long as you drive. This is how it is for most people.

Or marry someone rich.

Oh I already know but I'm getting the Little anyway if I want it or not Because I need it to get a license so I can go to police academy. Speaking of police academy that Will b e my career and I'll be the only one in my family doing something with my life and making more money than anyone in my family :)

Most people learn how to drive at at 16, I'm 21 lucky me right but its whatever because I will soon have the money to get my dream car which is a mustang (yes I know its a "little " car)

I think you should get a Saturn. They float. Kind of. And I don't care if my husband thinks I'm nuts because I believe that but he wasn't there when my car made it through a huge flood puddle and the other cars got stuck.

That's why my Saturn is named The Duckmobile.

Driving instructors are actually saying that there are problems when people learn in a big car and move to a small one. In a big car it's very easy to get pushy, not make safe merges etc as you expect other cars to move out of the way. Do the same thing in a small car and you can easily end up in an accident.

As for being late to driving, I only bothered getting my learners after 25. The main reason I got my licence was pressure from work. The second reason was the freaky bus I had to take to work.

My first car was a 1984 mustang convertible, red and black. I paid three thousand dollars for it when I was 16. I dont know if i loved it more because it was awesome or because i paid for it myself. I drove that car until i was 21 it was the only car i have owned that i worried about washing on a regular basis. I washed a whole lot of dishes to get that car, so i suggest if you want to get your dream car find a terrible job...and save your money.

Yes that's true it's better with a smaller car
Because an SUV costs a lot and if you get in a accident ba boom wasted lots of money I'd start
With a smaller car for safety
It's not like money grows on trees or falls out of the sky
Money is hard to get

At least your dream cars are American. All these people talking about foreign cars as their favorite is weird to me...I am from Michigan. I know not everyone here is American but you just don't hear that kind of talk where I am from. If you own a foreign car around here you have to constantly make excuses for your behavior.

Tempete, how's the job hunt? Saw the sign below on the door of a local McDonalds. They're hiring and its not the end of summer yet. If you go to local businesses they often post "help wanted" signs if they're hiring, or you can go inside and ask if they're hiring. A lot more effective than applying on-line.

My other friend makes and sells the cooler radios!

That is a little boy trying to swim to the waverunner!! You cannot see her, but his Mom is running in after him. LOL

We go out on weekends and there are 5 other couples with trailers so we have big party weekends!

My favorite time is when we are out on the waverunners!

This weekend I finally toasted one of the guys in a race. (got up to 65 miles/hr). I was way ahead until I looked down and saw my speed, then I panicked!! LOL)

I have a video of my hubby smoking one of the other guys, I will see if I can find and post it.

I think a good first car is whatever your comfortable in. If you really want a SUV, try driving it around. Ask a close friend who has one to,test drive it. Most dealers allow you to test drive. Choose whatever your comfortable in because its gonna be with you of a while. (It's like a wife or a husband lol)

Ok how about a VW Jetta the old ones. I Like how they look.

If you can afford to buy a car based on how it looks then go for it. When i buy a new car there are several factors at which i look:
-cost of servicing
-cost and availability of parts
-fuel efficiency
-safety rating

The car of course should be adequate in size to meet my needs. And there are other factors to consider as well. So ii research the car to see its user rating, common problems experienced by other drivers of the car etc.
If i can afford an expensive car then, of course, none of the above really would matter. :p

On my 22 Birthday which is Oct. 11. We already discussed what type a car I'm getting, a small one. I told him about the Range Rover I wanted..yeah he didn't care about that so much I'm getting a small car even if That range rover cost $50 lol. But really Im ok with whatever car I get as long as its functional.

I look for cars that are dependable and safe. Low maintenance and not real expensive to drive or get serviced. Looks or bells and whistles don't excite me.

For a used car for a first time driver, price is usually also a big factor unless the first time driver is buying the car with their money and can afford all costs involved.

Range Rovers and Jaguars are expensive cars when new; I don't know how much they are used. If inexpensive, they are probably 20th century cars with a lot of miles. Older cars usually require more maintenance as things wear out with time, and you don't want a car that will be in the shop a lot and cost an arm and a leg to get it out.

Trust that your dad will make a good decision when buying a car for you based on the selection of cars available to him, and be happy with it. Not everyone gets a car from their dad for their birthday, especially not as an adult.

Quite right...my sister -in -law has a jaguar and the battery for it costs $150.... if you can find one....

My Dad had a jaguar years ago. He had what would be a semi expensive accident in any other car, but was astronomically expensive in his. And repairs we're ludicrous.

He used to let me drive it to the car wash on Sundays when I was 16. I drove that thing white-knuckled, hands at 10 and 2, feeling so cool I was driving a jag. At that time my car was a 1980 Toyota Celica that the stereo was held in with duct tape and a huge peanut butter cookie from co-op that never did go bad. I bought that car with my own money and I loved it. She cost $1800.

Do you guys ever feel like everything bad is going your way? First a month ago my house got broken into and cell phone got stolen today I get an email from credit card that someone made a purchase on it which thankfully got flagged on card as fraud.

And then other things which I don't think I should mention. But when is all my bad luck going to go away?

Keep in mind I still haven't gotten taught how to drive fully so that's one reason why I'm getting a car the other reason is because I need it for my career well the license. So this whole "Pay for your own car with your own money" talk, I need a car to get my license to make ALOT of money with my career.

No not everyone is given a car EVER. I was never given a car. I bought my first car at age 16 with my own money. My brother and sister were allowed to drive extra cars belonging to my parents but as soon as they graduated high school they had to pay for the car or buy a new one as well as pay for their insurance. I thought this was incredibly unfair because i was never given a car to drive for free in highschool. Just be aware that you are VERY lucky to get a free car.

If you are not happy with a car someone is giving you, you can make yourself happy by buying the car you want. That is what is being said.

I never got a car for my birthday. I didn't have a car when I got my license. I first drove my parents' car when they let me. I paid for my cars, both used and new. At your age today I had a college degree, a career at a company that I am still at, and a low-end used car that I paid for. So it can be done.

Where I live, most kids do not get cars when they are 16. My neighbor used to ride his bike to work, about 6 miles one way. A co-worker of mine took a bus to work. Another co-worker got dropped off and picked up by a family member because they shared a car. You are fortunate to be given a car to help you with your career.

OK skip ahead 5 years, add another baby, THEN I had a career as a paralegal, animal care professional specializing in socialization and training of semi-feral dogs, then a phlebotamist. I thought in California an adult had to pass a written test to be able to drive with someone, and then you can take the driving part at anytime when you think you're ready. Its when you're under 18 you have to get a permit, take driver's training from a professional company and drive for a certain amount of hours and all sorts of other rules. I'm not sure when the Police Academy accepts new recruits (or whatever you'll be called), but you might want to check into that and then set some goals so that you don't have to wait forever to get into the next class once you get your license. I thought it would take longer than "months" to get out of the Police Academy, because I would have thought using a *** and knowing when to use it takes more time than that. But I have no clue. I'd be too chicken to become a cop, so good for you that you want to become one.

Education
The Sacramento Police Department requires potential police officer candidates to possess 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited university or college. These units do not have to be focused on a Criminal Justice or Administration of Justice major. Some of the various degrees currently held by SPD officers are: Communications, Business, History, and Horticulture. Writing and comprehension of the English language are crucial for today's law enforcement officer. If you don't have the required education requirements, there is the Community Service Officer's position to consider. Many CSO's have promoted to the Police Officer position after obtaining their required college units while working as a CSO. (Click on the Community Service Officer link for more information on that position.)

Today I went to the one and only mall in Bangkok that sells Itune cards, went to where the shop inside the mall was and the shop has closed down :-( So I went to the Istudio that sometimes sold them only to be told they no longer sell them. So no more itune cards, no more new paid apps and also no more gems on TL games. There was a couple of apps I wanted to buy but can't now. I don't have a credit card so that's out of the question. Maybe Thailand stopped selling iTunes gift cards until TL added a gem confirmation? :p

Can you get a gift card from a credit card company? For example, I can buy an American Express gift card in a store (here grocery stores have racks of gift cards) and use it as a credit card. There is a $6-7 fee. Do Thailand credit card companies do this?

I don't know but thanks. My friend is going to ask her Thai husband if he knows of another place to buy Itune cards. If I could switch my iTunes to the Canada itune shop I could get my friend to buy and send me the number (I can transfer money to her account - I love Internet banking). Unfortunetly cause I have 40 cents still in the American iTunes shop it won't let me switch over which is very annoying.

Thanks I will try emailing apple and asking them like Pinkster said to write it off so I can switch to the Canadian iTunes Store. At least that way I can ask a family member from back home to buy itune cards & just email me the number and transfer the money for it to their bank account. Not this month now though. Since I couldn't get itune cards I treated myself to The Villa Supermarket. It imports western food though its not all that cheap since its imported. Just bought myself 16 boxes of Mac and cheese, cereal that I like that I can only get there etc. so I'm a happy camper lol.

I wasn't good at parallel parking until I went to college. Its one of the s****s I learned in college that I still use. Unlike some of the things I learned in the classroom.

I can't back up in a straight line, and forget about backing up in a parking space or garage.

No smartypants comment here...I hate to parallel park as well.

Of course, for my driver's test, I had to do a 3 pt turn....and it took my 3 tries to get that right.

Try backing a mower, wagon, or disk with a tractor(with no power steering!) UPHILL into a barn!

I also cannot back into a parking space. I like when my hubby drives my car because he always backs it into my stall when he puts it back.

I probably could back into a spot if I absolutely had to, but it's something I don't have to do in order to live. Plus with my history of hitting inanimate objects it's just better for everyone if I reverse as little as possible. Although I was not driving in reverse when I hit my kid's bikes, shelves in the garage, a garbage can, scraped a tree, etc.

Good thing I don't have to do parallel parking or any of the "hard" stuff you guys had to do. Hahaha

Why not? I had to in order to get a California driver license. Are these no longer driving requirements, or are the requirements different because you will be taking the test as an adult at 22 and I was a minor at barely 16?

No thank you. Automatic or stick? I've tried driving a stick shift car uphill in downpouring rain. That was not fun.

A-ha! Stick shift I can do. My car is a standard.
