....it wouldn't be the first time...

Had a scary incident with the mower this evening. Heard a loud noise and smoke started pouring from under the deck!

A piece of wire had gotten caught in the blades and the belt running them was smoking.

Doesn't seem to be any damage but it scared the bejesus out of me...

This happened to me before. It is very frightening, especially when you have to tell your dad to fix it and you worry he may **** your little brother. All in all very stressful.

We saw lots of awesome animals today and Lylah got to milk a goat! She also made me take her on the scrambler and I asked if she was having fun she said no so I laughed....she then yelled at me "stop laughing I'm going to die!" Which of course made me laugh harder. She was smiling when she got off though so all was fine.

Hey everyone!

I am doing a project on cycles and I chose a flower from my backyard in ny. I found this flower we planted I believe during May. I think these types of plants are called bulbs since the seed is huge.

Here's a picture.
I need the name of the plant if possible.

I know there's a lot of them in there but I was trying to show the picture as best as possible.

Any help is appreciated

We have coyotes here. They sometimes grab little dogs at the off leash area. They will leave on their own if there's no food there. I wouldn't let her back there alone until you're sure they've moved on.

The next time you see them you can scare them, spray them with a hose, throw a metal can full of screws or pennies, etc.

Aye aye aye

Coyotes!
They're trouble on our farm too.

They ate a couple chickens and since then we have been true enemies.
I suggest what pinkster said, everything except the penny and screw thing. I never heard about that and it seems hilarious.

My neighbor said his family had a collie and 3 coyotes cornered it near a fenced area. But he didn't know, he was out riding. When he was passing the fence, he saw and rode over. They saw the horse and my neighbor and ran away.

About a week or two ago a 2 year old girl was bit and dragged by a coyote at a cemetary about 5 miles from my house. The mother screamed and lunged at the coyote and it let go and ran off. The bite broke ths skin; the wound was treated and she got a rabies shot.

Every so often a coyote incident is reported locally in the news. Its usually in an area near the hills or mountains. The one recently wasn't and was near where I lived, so it is a little scarier.

Don't know how to get rid of them except shoot them.

That's what I thought. It is weird to see them, makes me nervous. My step-grandpa has one stuffed in his living room (that's how I know they were coyote) I guess I will have to talk to him about it. Unfortunately I don't think you can shoot them here until next month. Legally anyway.

They are about 20 yards back in what my daughter calls the meadow. There were tons of rabbits this year so maybe that's what they're after. My neighbors have chickens turkeys a couple sheep and a pig but they have them fenced in with a Great Pyrenees so they haven't had any trouble. Just weird to see two more than once.

Can you call Fish and game about coyote problems in the States? Also there may be sprays or other repellents you can buy.

Usually coyotes don't stay in the Same area for too long so you should be fine.

I heard some sad news today. I'm currently in queens,ny but my ranch is upstate ny. I go there in the summer and during breaks if I want to. One of our horses got loose and some weird guy (nobody saw him before) stole her.
They're looking for her but a hunter saw a white and brown spotted horse with a blue crested saddle being boarded in a truck with a old man. (That's our horse)

Very weird, I wouldn't be surprised if he's gonna sell the horse. Yeh police know and they said this has happened before in the area.

Really love that horse but she's not my riding horse. She's my older cousins. She really misses the horse because she was supposed to ride her in a race next week.

You are lucky...all my tomato plants (about 200) are dying. I maybe got a dozen tomatoes. Wet, cool weather is not good for tomatoes.

If you get tomatoes off that plant, I may need you to send some seeds back to me!

Cherry tomatoes!

Yes
Cherry! They're great in salad!

Btw, I gave almost no care for my dahlias except water like 4 times a month. Mother Nature took care of the rest. Except for that one week full of hot sweaty weather, we have had rain almost once every week here. Lol

Just planted some more tomatoes. Have them at different stages now. Some teenagers, some babies, some mere newborns, so I should have tomatoes right through to the end of the year and probably next on the plants. Yay!

What kind of tomatoes were those, RF, that you sent to pinkster? (Sorry if I missed a whole discussion on this on the other thread.)

I'd tell you to try using epsom salt to get it to bear early but I'm afraid you might use too much and it might **** the darn thing!! lol. Does Real Farmer know if Epsom Salt would work? Do you see any little yellow flowers coming up?

Have you ever tried planting garlic pinkster? We can't grow them here in Jamaica. Too hot. They push up and have leaves and everything then they just dry up. uugghh. Silly garlic. :p

Am sure RealFarmer has tons and tons of garlic during the winter :)

Garlic is planted here in the late fall and harvested in late spring...

Picking corn this morning, I noticed a bunch of spider webs. All I could think was should have brought some fabreeze.

Garlic needs to be planted in cool weather and it needs to be very very cold when it is growing apparently. So it goes through the winter.

I sprayed chloraseptic on a fly. It died immediately. Thought it was a fluke so on another occasion when another fly got into my house i tried it again. Fly dropped dead. I stopped using chloraseptic throat spray right then.

See? I'm not the only one who thought Febreeze might be worth a try.

I have chloroseptic, I'll try that next time. On bugs AND on my throat. If it ****s flies it's got to be good at ****ing sore throat germs!

If you put fabreeze on the bee, won't come and attack you because it's attracted to perfume and stuff?

Are you sure the fly was dead and not just paralyzed?

pinkster73
08-21-13, 08:41 AM
Realfarmer has a point. Did you perform a bee autopsy?

bobbyrae
08-21-13, 08:56 AM
Oh the flies were dead. I was so shocked. I mean it just happened instantly. If they were just paralysed it would have worn off, right? That spray doesn't last forever...but they didn't move ever again. Not even a little buzz out of them.

Spray...buzzZZZZzzzz.....plop!

Spraying flying bugs with hairspray makes them plop too. But it's not very nice.

The amount of anaesthetic while only enough to numb a human throat for a short time would probably cease all vital functions in a fly. If you took a swim in a pool of chloraseptic and it covered your whole body it would probably **** you too. Hair spray works because it hardens on the insect preventing movement. Hair spray also takes out ink stains.
