Lantern spires

I have three lantern spires. Just upgraded two of them so I know have 2 at level 2 and one at level 3. However my royal points didn't go up. It was 4003 before I upgraded and they didn't go up? Have I got it wrong that upgraded them gives you more royal points too? Or have I missed out on my royal points?

Place one level 2 one in storage and note how much your points drop. Place the level 3 in storage then note the drop. The drops should correspond to the point value of each. Did you place anything else in storage around this time?
