Why can't we buy gems with coins?

I get gem sales all the time but have put a halt on any more purchasing because having to have 80 gems to expand my place when it was recently 40 is ludicrous. I'm sitting here with almost 3 million coins and to me they're not worth much because many things take gems only and we all know how hard it is to earn gems. Why can't we use coins to buy gems?

At this time, there is no option to trade Coins for Gems. We will let the development team know of your feedback on this matter! :)
