I have tried for a long time to get the Sword of Excalibum what do I have to do to get it. I must be doing something wrong

You'll have to give us more info...have you started the series of goals with Thurston?

Once you get in touch with Thurston (he's the naked, sneezy guy in the woods), it opens up a series of goals. Forging Excalibam is one of those goals.
