Why can't I send gifts?

What am I missing? The Gift button is dimmed in my neighbours' list. I see the Gift icon when I arrive at neighbour's kingdom but it vanishes soon. :(

Either you already sent 3 gifts today or you didn't restart your game since yesterday.
Or it's a bug :)
